Hello everyone,

I have been wondering this for a long time. What does the placement of the ASC ruler in the chart tell you? Since it is ruler of your rising sign (yourself), then it must have an impact.

My asc ruler is in the 7th house..which I have read means that I am concerned about marriage/partnerships. But it must mean something more. Can someone pls tell me what it implies?

That's a good question. Makes sense to me, but I don't remember any discussions on it. Let's hope someone has some ideas, and maybe I'll take a look too. It's interesting.

Generally, the house of the Ascendant's ruler indicates the area in life where you will most easily project yourself. Since your ruler is in the 7th, it would seem that your image is tied to your relationships. In other words, you express yourself most easily in your role as a partner.

There are other factures, but that will give you an idea of what it means.

Hmmmm - that makes sense. It's almost as if the Sign is less important than the House the ruler is in, especially since the Asc is what we show the outside world. How we project ourselves.

There was a discussion about the Asc losing power with age, but I could not agree on that, although some people agreed. I feel more like my Asc as time goes on. My theory is it may be due to other aspects which shows my general discomfort inside of my skin, almost like I feel trapped. So it was like my Air Sun was resisting being trapped by my Earth Asc. Have had a BIG problem comfortably merging my mind with my body. Like they weren't meant to go together. But like I said, keep in mind that Natal aspect I have which makes me feel trapped in my skin to begin with.

But my Asc is in Taurus (29.48 degrees), my Venus is in my 4th, and I'm more comfortable at home than anywhere else. (Hmmm. I'm going to have to keep in mind his Jupiter is in the 7th).

The Asc has always been a pain subject to me, but now that I'm looking at the House of the Ruler, some pieces fall into place quite well.

Thank you for the replies. Its true, I do project myself better in close/marital type relationships. I also put a lot of my energies into it. But what i'm wondering is whether the asc ruler tells anything about the overall condition of life(the chart)? For instance, could you say that in general a person with the asc ruler in the 8th house would overall have much suffering/sorrow throughout their life? Of course, the type and amount of suffering/sorrows (or 8th house related affairs) would be modified according the sign it is in, and aspects it receives.

I guess what i'm trying to say is can the ASC ruler be utilized to make predictions of the person's life in general? Can it tell you more than just about your personality?

AstroJ,

I agree with you...I also feel/act more and more like my ascendant as time goes on.

How would you determine your asc. ruler.... for example my asc is scorpio and my pluto is in the 11th house. Would that mean that my asc ruler is the 11th house???

Rasberry,

ASC ruler is the PLANET that rules your ASC sign. So, in your case your asc rulers are Mars + Pluto (since they both rule the sign Scorpio). And depending on which house they are located, it will tell you which area of life you project or expend your energies on the most.

Ok ... hold up... lemme get this straight. *shakes head*

So... my asc is Gem. So I then look to Merc's house placement?

It's in the 6th which is Work and service, yes?

Gosh, I hope that's right.

Once read somewhere, the acendant i s like a filter thru which we portray ourselves, how we relate to others. Somewhere out there on the web link on here that u can submit ur pic and compare it to others that share your sun sign and asc. I believe the premise is that the people will look similar?

NE1 have ne info on if your asc. is the polar opposite of sun sign? Curious>??!

Yep LibraSparkle, you've got it right. Mercury's my ascendant's ruler too, but my Mercury is in the 9th, which makes a lot of sense- I've always been most comfortable and at ease when I'm learning, whether it be at school, just by reading, or coming on here or something, you know?

Your Asc is Gemini, so Mercury is your ruler.
Mercury also rules Virgo so in the 6th house (Virgos house) its home.

LibraSparkle, your husband is a Taurus correct? Is his Mercury or Venus in Gemini? The ascendant ruler says what's important to you, so the 6th house has some significance. The 6th also rules sewing, cutting, fixing, organizing, arranging, and holistic health care,

Natasha

Wondering if Asc ruler in the 4th conjunct IC means that I'm only visible for people I let into my life and totally obscured from the general view?

Aen,
You've got a powerful Asc. ruler. Any planet conjunct an angle (Asc., Desc., Midhaven or Nadir) is a powerhouse. When delineating always combine the asc. ruler (which planet?) and nadir.

Don't know about the powerhouse.

I have Virgo Asc & Gem MC both ruled by Merc in Cap/4th hs conj IC. It squares Moon&Pluto, semisextiles Neptune (exact, so I guess it should mean something).

My work has been in media, publishing, communication, transport etc, so it seems to fit nicely to this Gem MC.

But my personal self-expression (the usual Asc stuff) is kind of weird. People see, what they want to see. Or they just don't see me at all.

I think that in general, I've always had hardest time with Mercurial areas. I heven't yet to learned to trust my mind. Hope, I'll find the way to make it a powerhouse.

Alrighty... I'm confused again.

I'm lookin' at hubby's. He's got Scorp ASC, Pluto (right?). Pluto's in Libra 11th hs.

I didn't know what the ruler of the 11th hs was, so I googled it... but I've come up with Aqua and Libra from a couple different places.

Here: http://www.astrology.com/aboutastrology/interpreting/houses/house11.html?arrivalSA=1&cobrandRef=0&arrival_freqCap=1&pba=adid=10836261

... it tells me The Eleventh House is ruled by the Sign Aquarius and the Planets Saturn and Uranus.

But... Here: http://www.astrologyhoroscopes.info/astrological_houses/libra_11th_house.htm

it tells me, "LIBRA the AIR Sign is the ruler of the 11th House in the LEO - 1st House system. VENUS, LIBRA and the 11th House all mean the same thing. AQUARIUS is the ruler of the 11th House in the Aries - 1st House System. Both Libra and Aquarius are AIR Signs and have a similar nature. LIBRA is more about relating however."

The bit about house systems really confused me.

Are the different house systems different schools of thought... or is it dependent upon where the 1st house begins?
