When I first learned astrology I found it suspicious that Aquarius was listed as a "Male" air sign, when anyone with the most basic grasp of the occult can see that any charecter holding a chalice/cup/grail/water pitcher HAS to be female, because it is a womb symbol.

I was not satisfied reading that Aquarius was based on a "cup bearer" of the gods was supposedly a young boy Zeus had brought into the court, b/c I know how many of the myths were altered.

Now I have had my suspicions confirmed after reading that Aquarius is indeed based on an older myth, of a goddess, midwife between life and unlife, who's job was to fill her womb/water pitcher with souls yet-to-be-born, and then pour them out onto the earth, thus giving them life. Much like the "star" on the tarot deck.

So what do we do with Aquarius then? It's a "male" Air sign, yet the charecter is female.

Aquarius really is an enigma, isn't it? Not only that... but what's with the name Aquarius, and the water bearer... but it's an air sign?!

I was under the impression that the term "water bearer" is derived from Astrology's ealiest roots in Mesopotamia; Aquarius made its appearance in the sky at the start of the rainy season - it was the constellation which bore much needed water with it - hence the water bearer.

Please don't think me misinformed, clueless or out of the loop (tho i usually am) but i always thought Aquas should be more of a "water" sign than Scorpio... aren't scorpions land-living creatures?!

INteresting Isis... that theory actually makes a lot of sense.
Linda said similar things about Scorpio as well... in the beginning of Love Signs, the twelve Mysteries of Love... she goes into feminine/masculine mystique as well......

Ya, there does seem to be some contradiction in the symbology of astrology here and there, I've always wondered about that, which is how I ended up researching the history and entymology behind aquarius - aquarii is latin, meaning literally water carrier - which was the Roman translation for most likely the Greek translation of the Mesopotamian word(s).

I used to wonder about the Scorp - earth creature/Water thing. Maybe there are no stinging marine creatures in the Persian Gulf nor the Mediterranean. Wonder why Scorp isn't the "stonefish", the "stingray", or "the sea anenome". Probably something as simple as Mesopotamians mistaking scorpions for a crustaceans, like the crab.

Also, I always found it interesting that rams (aries) and satyrs - half goat, half man (sag) are associated w/ fire, and goats (cappy) and bulls (taurus), are assoc with earth, however all four are bovines (or hybrids in the case of Sag).

But then again, none of the symbology of the air signs fits either, so I guess who cares if we're not the "stingrays". lol

hmmm...

Aguarius? I dont know anything about astrology but all I saw when reading this topic (Probly missing the point completey) was this:

Between life and death (born and unborn)
Between male and female (Male sign, female picture)
and between water and air

...

either someone was very confused...or this sign is trying to show us something

LOL

Peace.

After some googling I discovered that the rain and flood season in Mesopotamia was spring/autumn, not January/February. I knew it didn't sound right, rain pouring down in mid-winter.

But I did find the myth you were talking about, it's actually Egyption, talking about how Aquarius sets over the river Nile.

Still, this does't tell us a thing about Aquarius being male or female.

Although I did discover Hebe was the original female cup-bearer of the gods, replaced by a boy, in a homo-erotic sounding myth.

Yes, it certainly is a strange puzzle.

But the soul-drawing story was familiar to me, as I am named after an angel who had the same job, drawing from the river of unborn souls and pouring them into life.

I had never connected it to the sign of Aquarius, until I read it.

Doesn't Aquarius rule androgyny?

Im an aquarius and I sertainly feel Im a masculine sign. Especilally together with pices or cancer men which are feminine...

Im a feminine girl by face, voice and bodymovement, but inside and often in business I can see that I am ruled by a masculine power. This becomes more strong when Im working and have alot of responsebility and I feel more feminine inside when together with a man ruled by masculine powers.

And once in asia a good friend told me...but Li you are a water bearer, a giver, you constantly HAVE to give from you never ending sourses...dunno if its true for all aquas but I have sometimes a problem giving too much not able to take for myself...men get cracy, angry with me of this...

And for sure we are aaAAAIiiiiry! too much flying and alot of people can not relate to this

But eaven though I often hurt water sigs withought wanting I get amasingly attracted to them and them by me...some of my very best friends are watersigns.

I think aquas are much less sensetive in an emotional matter than the watersigns. Its like staying in the air getting the bigger picture...while down in the water it sometimes feels too dark, too sad...

Aquarius: Carriers, barers, bestowers of the messages of water (i.e. Universal Consciousness, etc)...but not entrenched in it. Ergo, not subject to the heavy emoting and saturation of the soul, which can make one extremely introspective and unable to be objective.

(IMO)

Libra too, but I think Aquarius rules androgyny.

One way of looking at Aquarius as being an Air sign is how it conducts and receives information. Almost every Aquarius I know, including my dog, has problems with circulation or the heart as they get older. Or they might have epileptic type symptoms, as the nervous system is extremely delicate.

The heart has a little contraption called the Atrial Node, which is literally the heart's natural pacemaker, and is PURE ELECTRICITY within our body.

And how many times do we talk about Aqua's detachment? No Water sign is every detached emotionally.

And a thought on Scorpio...the scorpion exists mainly in desert like environments, that were at one time, sea-bed. The sign is associated with Pluto, which is all about cataclysmic transformation, and perhaps the scorpion did evolve from a crustaceous animal, out of necessity. The explosive nature of Pluto's energy (see 'plutonium')is perhaps what caused the sea-beds to dry out - but life springs eternal, and the scorpion evolved to survive, utterly and permanantly transformed into something new and beautiful in it's own right.

Just some spiralling thoughts.

Hi LeylaLeFay,

Sorry to bother you if you are not into the Bible. But I was pondering over a similar question about man carrying pitcher and then I stumbled across your post.

Is Jesus pointing to us something by deciding to use the man carrying pitcher sign. Or is it just my imagination. Was it ok for a man to carry a pitcher that time?

I am quoting the verses from KJV for you or anyone who can throw a light on this.
The verses here occurs just before the last supper.

========================
Luke:

22:7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

22:8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.

22:9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?

22:10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.

Regards,

I think that's cool, what you're observing, and deserves as much study as anything else we talk about astrologically.

Does anyone have any thoughts on these subliminal images?

Thanks.

I think AJ is referring to the feminine man in the picture. Is it James?

"And you, my three, who constitute the inner circle of the Church of Christ, will show to men the attributes of all the Gods.
And Peter shall make known the Power of God; and James shall show Thought of God; and John shall deomonstrate the Love of God." - Aquarian gospel of christ

Iamthat- Yes. I am into the Bible. Spent a few years living with Orthadox Jews. The sexual identity of Aquarius had long been changed by the time Jesus spoke that quote. And he was referring to the astrological "house" of aquarius that they were moving towards at the time. We are in the "age of aquarius" now. Sings "This is the dawning of the age of aquarius, age of aquariuuuuus..."

If you read the dead sea scrolls they are full of page after page of astrological charts of famous jewish leaders. Jesus would have known his astrology.

Astro- are you trying to stir up a hornets nest or what? I think you're trying to suggest that everyone go and read "the divinci code" an exellent book. It goes into how Jesus was married to Mary Magdaline, (she is the "feminine male" in the painting) and how she is symbolized by the "holy grail."

While I agree the evidence is there that she was his wife, I don't agree with the whole "English royalty" connection. How long has royalty been trying to convince it's subjects it is decended from God? It's the oldest trick in the book.
