“THE LONER”

These men and women need no one but themselves. They are un-moved by the madding crowd, liberated from the drive to impress and to please. These people are remarkably free of the emotions and involvements that distract so many others. What they may give up in terms of sentiment and intimacy, however, they may gain in clarity of vision. Left to their own devices, these anthropologists, naturalists, mathematicians, physical scientists, filmmakers, writers, and poets can uncover and record the facts of our existence to which our passions so often blind us.

THE SIX CHARACTERISTICS

1. Solitude. Individuals with this personality style have small need of companionship and are most comfortable alone.

2. Independence. They are self-contained and do not require interaction with others in order to enjoy their experiences or to get on in life.

3. Sangfroid. These men and women are even-tempered, calm, dispassionate, unsentimental, and unflappable.

4, Stoicism. They display an apparent indifference to pain and pleasure.

5. Sexual composure. They are not driven by sexual needs. They enjoy sex but will not suffer in its absence.

Aquarius

I think I can dismiss Scorpio since this description fits how Scorpios would like to be seen, what they see as a position of strength where no-one can get at them, but it's a veil.

I think Scorpios are SO emotional and involved that they put up this shield, but even a basic psychological assessment like this one would pick up on the fact that these people aren't REALLY like that.

The choice between Aquarius and Capricorn is a much harder one. Capricorns ARE very tough but they do have a very patient and caring side, someone who accepts a difficult life without complaint, which doesn't really fit the description.

There is also a slightly airy side to this description, it applies more to someone who can walk down the road without really noticing other people on it. A "not-really-here-with-us" feel.

Which would point me more in the direction of Aquarius.

Aries? I think not. They are anything but "even-tempered, calm, dispassionate, unsentimental, and unflappable". Nor do they "display an apparent indifference to pain and pleasure". In fact, I think for these reasons we can rule out any of the Fire signs -- they're too exuberant.

Taurus? Perhaps. 3, 4, and 6 seem to fit well.

Gemini? Definitely not. Gemini is a communicator, and you can't communicate if you're alone. I wouldn't describe them as stoic, either.

Cancer? Nope. Waaay too emotional to fit this description.

Leo? Nope. Also very emotional, plus they thrive on praise and bristle at criticism.

Virgo? Maybe. I think "self-contained" and "stoic" apply. Number 5 seems to apply, too. And they have their "feet on the ground".

Libra? Oh hell no. This doesn't describe me at all.

Scorpio? I can agree with you wholeheartedly here, Nanji... it does sound more like the Scorpion mask of coolness than the inner nature. Still, some of it fits. It's that thing about sex that makes no sense.

Sagittarius? Ummm, no. Like Aries and Libra, they are far too outgoing for this description.

Capricorn? Sounds pretty good, actually. 1, 3, 4, and 6 seem right on the money.

Aquarius? Nope. Aquarius is "everybody's friend"; you can't be that in solitude.

Pisces? Not really... I wouldn't say that having your "feet ont he ground" was a known Piscean trait. Some of it might fit, but I don't know...

Yep, a tough one. I'm going with Capricorn here, myself.
