How can the time, place or, most importantly time of year of birth possibly have an effect on personality? What is it about the winter-born that makes them so different from the spring, summer or autumn-born?
I'm not just thinking of astrological theory here but trying to relate personality to times of planting, times of harvest, for example, the best times for which are found in astrological almanacs. Is there a type of energy in certain seasonal periods that imbues everything it touches?
If there IS a strong seasonal influence, then given that seasons vary according to hemisphere or latitude (i.e climate in equatorial areas can be much the same throughout the year), shouldn't the application of astrology in those areas vary according to these factors?
Now, I KNOW that you're going to tell me that astrology is all controlled from outer space...but I'm trying to relate it more to our immediate environments here...

Everyone is going to have a different opinion on this, but we have a few things "in space" which affect our lives here on Earth.

You have the Galactic Center of the universe which has it's own electromagnetic energy being pounded out into our galaxy. And you have the Sun, which actually imprints information into your DNA.

So, at different times of the year, with all the rotations, orbits, tilts and degrees happening all around us and with the Earth itself, once our galaxy began to calm down a bit, the seasons are a bit more predictable. And so, it's not such a stretch to at least conclude that our lives have become cyclical.

Even if we have no knowledge of what our galaxy is or how it works, ancient peoples noticed a pattern, and some began studying it and compiling information from simple observation.

What an interesting question Aries. I too have wondered about this as I have always very much felt an Autumn child, welcoming the season with a feeling like 'Im coming home'. Who knows what it is and if it can be defined in the language of science and logic but the cyclical changes in nature has a hugely powerful affect on us all despite living in an increasingly 'sanitised' world which I believe is slowly taking us away from our primal roots.

Humans, as mammals can reproduce at any time of the year, so our biology isnt affected by the seasons but so much in nature is governed by them that it has to have some affect somewhere down the line. The weather and the seaons can have an affect on our moods and our outlook and we celebrate rituals and festivals closely linked in with the seasons - it very much seems to me that the time of year that someone comes into being can somehow leave an imprint on their pysche and personality. But as to how or why is a mystery.

Interesting - Id love to know more if anyone else has any thoughts or knows of any literature. Im sure this must have been researched and studied at some point.

Thanks Aries

How does the Sun imprint information into our DNA?
What about inherited character traits?
How is it that different signs suffer different types of malaise, or have greater activity in or focus on certain parts of the body? (i.e. greater mental dexterity, increased fertility). Does the season of birth promote growth in certain areas of the brain or body?
And (how) can time of conception affect time of birth - in seasonal or astrological terms?

Do Cancers seem like "summery" people to you? LOL. I honestly don't have much on this, although it's intriguing to ponder. I'm techincally a late spring baby, about a week from the summer solstice. I like warm temps, many hours of sunlight and things in bloom. I like spring and summer rain, but hate wet weather in late autumn and winter. I don't really like the seasons to change profoundly. Like here in Texas, there's things blooming nearly year round, and I always love February because it's the start of the yearly blooming cycle here, and not months later like in areas where the ground's still frozen. About two months of a "climatic" winter is about all I can handle. In this respect, I don't begrudge global warming.

It's interesting that my general compatiblity with other signs corresponds somewhat with my seasonal preferences. I often don't get along well with December-born Sag, Caps, and January-born Aquas, and Dec and Jan are the hardest month for me. those are by far the most difficult for me to get along with. Second most difficult is Scorpios and November born Sags - the late autumn types. The rest of the signs I often can get along with fairly well, with individual exceptions (mostly Taureans - they're in the wrong season, I swear). And actually I do get along often very well with Cancers. My two closest pals are Cancers, and are actually rather summery people in their own crabby way.

Interesting. My best months are Earth-sign months - January, May, and September. I have no idea why. Maybe it has to do with my Virgo ascendant - or the fact that I was supposed to have been born in May, but was in fact born in late April. I have a lot of artistic and musical leanings.

How does the Sun imprint information into our DNA?

* Radiation

What about inherited character traits?

* That's when you see your kids mirroring you and then making their own edits.

How is it that different signs suffer different types of malaise, or have greater activity in or focus on certain parts of the body? (i.e. greater mental dexterity, increased fertility).

* I guess part of why the human race has survived is that it takes all kinds. Looks like all the malaise has been distributed evenly so no one Sign carries all the burden.

Does the season of birth promote growth in certain areas of the brain or body?

* Absolutely. Gemini's vocal chords become enhanced because that's where they are "going".

And (how) can time of conception affect time of birth - in seasonal or astrological terms?

* Some are under the belief that YOU chose to be born when you were born, unless it was induced or cesarian. We also recently had a thread going regarding astrology & conception.

I thought about your question about Cancer's being Summer-like a long time ago, and I came to the conclusion that Summer is the time when all the babies in nature have been hatched, and it's time for family activities - just like Summer.

i know that spring is when most baby animals are born, and that makes sense, with the earth getting warmer and the availability of food, but i've always wondered how the prepoderance of aries born animals effects the earth and just why it is this way. i know that some animals have multiple "litters" and others have babies during another time of the year. all of my cats have been aries, however. cats have multiple litters, many of them occuring in last summer, hence causing a Leo cat. i've always thought there was something to this - cat's being born leos.

spiriling even more - maybe the large majority of animals are born under the sign of aries because the are "innocent" and are trying to show us a way that is a new begining in humanity. then again, humans used to - a long, LONG time ago, probably be only aries as well, because the rest died. maybe if we would have retained our innocence we would still be born aries and go through the signs in order, turning into a taurus when may comes, a gem. in june. ect. maybe animals do this. i don't know. i have thought about this before and have many opinions on the matter. these are just some random thought fragments that don't make much sense.
