i'm so confused...now that I've been a few months into learning astrology I decided trying to figure out charts for people I have missing info for (usually just birth times). So far the only thing I really noticed that not having this info screws up is knowing their ascendant. However, while reading the ephemeris for my parents' charts, BOTH of their moon signs change on the day of their birth (the symbol for the next sign shows up on that line of the ephemeris)! Is this part a guessing game too? It's not easy deciding if my Leo dad has a Gemini or Cancer moon, and my Pisces moon having either a Virgo or Libra moon.

If the other thread about the weird connections between parents and their children were true, then my Leo dad should have Gemini moon to go with my Gemini bro, and my Pisces mom should have Virgo moon to go with my sun :-P. Gah! I thought it was neat that they both have Chiron in Pisces though

And is there any way at all figuring out the rising signs? A friend of mine and I were trying to decide if our Libra/Scorpio moon friend had a Sag or Cancer rising.

Well, there are different ways of guessing, but few are very reliable. Some try to go by physical appearence - I find this terribly unreliable.

Also you can try to match Suna nd moon up to houses that seem to fit, but these requires a lot of understanding of a person. Most people wouldn't guess my Sun's the 10th - even I was wrong when I first guessed my ASC, as I figured my Sun was in the 9th.

Actually there are big differecnes between a Cancer and Gemini moon, and Libra and Virgo moon, because you have the distinction between a cardinal and mutable sign. Cacner and Libra moons are empathetic and caring, but also strong on the emotional side of their nature. These are stable moon placements and that often is seen in the native. Gem and Virgo moons are both Mercurial placements and create a nervous emotional temperment: Gem moons tend to be easily distracted or rush through their day, and Virgo moons tend to be serious worryworts - and both are hypersensitive and prone to abrupt mood swings. Another big difference is cardinal moons tend to be aware of and more in tuned with their feelings; whereas mutable moons are easily confused by and even afraid of their feelings.

I think there's a big enough difference that you can see it in your parents. If it seems they ar a little of both, it's possible their moon is on the cusp.

you'd think that it would be easier to be able to tell which sign a person is if the possibilities are in two differant elements, but for some reason, i find it hard to do. when trying to guess a persons sign i can cross off what i don't think the are but i'm still left with signs that are no where near the same - like a sag. and a capricorn. it's weird. maybe you're like me and a bad guesser when you have to choose between two signs that are next to each other.

if you could find out the time of day your parents were born (not necessarily the exact time, but something like after midnight or at dawn, ect.) you may be able to narrow down their moon signs. as for ascendant - good luck!

Thank you both for the replies! I've given it a few days for me to watch my parents and see where I thought their Moons were. My mom, which I was pretty sure of to begin with, obviously has Moon in Virgo. Very much a worrywort, moody, hypersensitive as you said, Gem. Also, tonight she spent hours working on these charts which I assumed was not part of her Pisces Sun. Very meticulous and detailed!

I'm having a harder time with my Leo dad. I think his Sun is very strong and making it harder. Plus, he is not a very nice person and I can only focus on his negative traits. Sometimes I think he is a Cancer moon, and then he turns around and seems like a Gemini moon! He is very manipulative emotionally and communicatively. He will turn whatever you say around on you, making it sound like you just said something that you actually didn't. He's a compulsive liar, and believes in his lies fully. He thinks he has to play mommy, even when no one even cares or finds it annoying and if no one seems to appreciate it, he throws a childish fit and criticizes everyone else about how lazy they are. But then he will go sit in front of the tv for hours.

Wow, after writing that, to me he sounds more like a Cancer Moon but I'm still not completely sure!
