Okay, I know the jury's still out on how astrology works, but does anyone have a theory that rings true for them? The only one I'm really familiar with is the gravitational pull theory. IP: Logged |

i've always explained it to myself that the moon effects our oceans pull with gravity, so why wouldn't it do that to our bodies considering we are mostly liquid/water? also, the seasons effect growing time. for example the amount of sun a plant gets during each season and how some people become depressed in winter because of the position of the sun, ect. if all this is true, that the planets effect life on earth, why are we any exception. i have alot more theories, but simple does it for me! or you can just chalk it up to gremlins, gnomes. haha. whatever works for you! what i don't get is how they determined that aries rules the head, taurus the neck, ect. but the heck if i don't check that moon sign before getting surgery! Oh what a question this is to ask!The gravitational pull theory is interesting, but ultimately is flawed, as the planets (with the exception of the moon), exert less gravitational inluence on you than that quarter on the floor. Proving HOW astrology works would be the most complicated scientific endeavor ever undertook. Proving astrology would require not only amazing feats of astrophysics, but also biology, psychology, and chemistry. To make a connection between a distant bodies effect on our prenatal development, brain chemistry, genetics, etc. is VERY complicated. This is why astrology is looked at with so my scorn by the scientific community, because the evidence for it is merely correlational, and not experimental. So I pose the question, could anyone design an experiment to show that the heavens affect personality and life circumstance? Science functions by isolating a variable (the planets), and proving that they and only they cause effects we observe. How the hell do you isolate the planets? The only thing i can think of is to blow one up, and observe the after effects!!! (I suggest pluto, its small and annoying!) For now, proving astrology can only start with correlational studies, for ex:, "40% of politicians have a mars in the 10th house" etc.. Ultimately, I believe the source of the planets effects are in the earths magnetic field. It is well documented that the sun and planets change the shape and magnitude of the earths field (northern lights for example). It is also known that life would die without this field. TO understand how astrology works we must understand how earths magnetic field is affected by the heavens, and also how this magnetic field affects living organisms. Sounds pretty simple, eh? WOW I really silenced this thread...kinda makes sense though, this really is a faith/support (women) based community, not a scientific/analytical (men) one. IP: Logged |

blueroamer ~oh, you'd be surprised how many analytical virgos there are on here. i just think that you answered the question pretty completely. not much more to say, that's all. it was interesting watching your mind work. i was thinking about answers other than gravity last night. i suppose i'm just too lazy to type out all of my late night nonsensical thoughts. besides, they pretty much agree with what you talked about. so, yeah, i'm gonna go with lazy. i think of the asteroid belt as a blown-up planet (dont know of course if i am scientifically correct in thinking so) .. .communication problems as a resultIP: Logged |
