How do you cast a chart for someone if you don't know their birthtime? I really want to do my sister's, and all we know is that it was very early in the morning, so that our mother even thought it was the day before what the b-cert said, say 12 - 3 am.

Others also I would be interested to run a chart on that I don't have any time for. Short of a wild guess, how is this ever reconciled? What kind of information is missing? are you better off with a general chart for that day than guess at a time?

Also, I was thinking of decorating some charts for x-mas presents - any good books on this? (like how they used to do it fancy) Do people make money at this sort of thing?

Anyways, I haven't seen this addressed anywhere in the strings... (if it is, send me there!) ~thanks~

Hey delerious,

The only thing you can know without knowing the birth time are the planets, what signs they're in and what aspects they make to each other (you can't know asc..and houses)

What I've done is...I checked the person's chart with 1 am ..on the day...and with 11pm...so earliest and latest times they could be born on that day. Usually the only thing that changes is the degree of their Moon sign (which means you can't really interpret aspects to the Moon with much certainty). But if nothing else changes, like if mars, venus, mercury etc...stay virtually the same that whole day...then you know for a fact a person born that day would have those aspects.

Does that make sense? lol

PS. Btw this isnt like a set rule..I haven't checked this with anyone. Personally I think it's logical though

With your sis..find out the diff asc in that time frame and think about what would suit her best. You could check the chart with that asc at 1 degree...and that same asc at 29 degrees to see if the aspects it makes change, then look at the aspects to see what suits her more.

this would prolly take agesss though (not for my impatient Aries brain)

Thanks from one chick to another! the guessing doesn't sit well with me, either.

Not quite sure what you mean about checking at 29 degrees.... how precise is the ascendent? whithin 2 or 3 hrs would everything change? I was thinking of doing one for midnight, 1am, 2am, to see the differences...

Alot of people will say "I think it was around 2" how much leeway do you have before it all becomes inaccurate? I thought I read something in one of Linda's books on some way to intuit the time?? Anyways, its very frustrating cause she's one of the closest people to me + would love to see her chart....

She said she checked years ago with the hospital and they somehow had "lost" that file - wonder if it'd be worth another try!!!

Here's to life's wonderful ambiguities!! Maybe this will be my great astrological challenge - to try to see what makes sense she is!! (lol, did that make any sense? its late - should be over at silly string!!)

I'm pretty sure it made sense. I think I got it anyways lol

All I meant was, ok..*takes deep breath* lol

I think ascendants change every 2 hours or so, on average..so from 12 to 3 am..you'd only have a choice between 3 ascendants at the most. First you find out what they are ..by "doing one for midnight, 1am, 2am, to see the differences" like you juz said.

So say u find out from 11 am to 12.30 am the asc was in Cancer. From 12.30am to 2am it was in Leo and from 2am to 3.30am it was in Virgo.

Then you'd have to figure out what ascendant is more like her. What the face she shows to the world is. You might think it's nothing like Leo and Virgo..and pick Cancer as her asc.

So here comes the degree part...Unfortunately, even if you guess her ascendant, the aspects IT makes to other planets can be very different due to the degree it's in. ie A Cancer ascendant at 29 degrees (at the end of cancer on the astro wheel --each sign has 30 degrees--) and a Leo mars at 1 degree would be in conjunction...because Leo follows Cancer...so her mars would be nearly exactly on her asc. A cancer ascendant at the start of cancer ..at 1 degree, would make no aspect to her Leo mars. This goes for other aspects as well ...like trine, sextile etc.

Another ie..to make it clearer. Say your Sun was at 29 degrees Aries and your Venus was at 1 degree Taurus. On the astro wheel...ur Sun and ur Venus would be nearly exactly on top of each other...even if they are in diff signs so they'd be conjuncted. If your sun was at 1 degree Aries (right at the start of Aries...like if u were born on the 21st march) it would make NO aspect to your venus.

That goes for the ascendant to...

In my example where 11am to 12.30 am was Cancer.

11 am would be 1, 2 degrees in Cancer
11.30 am would be 10 degrees in Cancer
12 am ...say 15 degrees
12.30...29 degrees

as it moves through Cancer...

Hope that doesn't sound too complicated

So if I get you right - I might be able to ascertain her asc. with the limited information I have, but there's no way around the fact that the major gap will be any aspects to the asc. Am I correct in assuming that the houses change in about the same amount of time, and I could use the same technique to guess them?

appreciate the you're an

awwww no probs...glad to help

I don't know enough about the houses to say. As a general rule they change with the ascendant. Your ascendant is in the 1st, the next sign is the 2nd, next the 3rd...but thats just like a guideline kinda..it does change a lil sometimes.

check this link out and click on one of the risings, you'll see what I mean:

maybe someone else can post more info bout the houses though...

Good Luck with the chart

Thanks for the link, that is a nice, easy-to-use site!!

I see you're from "down under" I've been wondering what the differences/challenges of casting charts in the southern hemisphere would be, or is it about the same?

Do you got there?!!! Merry !!
