I know that when someone has either one or two squares in their natal chart that those are about the only things they need to work on in this lifetime..Sometimes they are really rough and other times not. My questions, actually I should ask if someone could give me their opinion on this. I have two squares in my natal and they are both both my AS. Sun squaring As and Mars squaring As. Also my Sun is not aspected by anything else.
I know how to "read" the relationship between two planets aspecting each other, but what about the AS...I'm not sure what the As actually stands for...Thank you

Hello Inka, it sounds like someone has shortened Ascendant to "As". The Ascendant, Asc, is also referred to as the rising sign.

If you want to check the information you already have against chart info produced by a pretty reliable site, you can go here, enter your birth info and it will give you a short form personal portrait of your chart. http://www.astro.com/cgi/ade.cgi?ract=atxgen.cgi&btyp=apx&lang=e&cid=

Or, you can register, for no charge, enter and save your personal birth info and produce a lot of other different types of reports. To do this, go here and click on create a registered user profile. http://www.astro.com/cgi/awd.cgi?lang=e&cid=mx2filefHpxUz-u1103191767&xrn =11031924130.263911148141236

Great questions INKA !!

Needless to say, a Natal Square is not the only indicator of what requires work - I mean - I know you knew that already, but for the benefit of anyone else reading this. A Square is not a definite indicator of required work ... OK ...

Examples are nasty Transits of the Planets all around us at all times. Such as the Sun is currently in Sagittarius. Why? Because it is December 16th, and if you were born today, you would be a Sag.

So let's say you are minding your own business, with your only two Square's, and the transiting Sag Sun joins the same position, the exact degrees, as the degrees of your Natal Gemini Sun (as an example), which is it's opposite energy. Sag & Gemini are opposites.

Or it can Square your Gem Sun, etc. And yet, you were only minding your own business.

In love relations, when doing a Synastry or Composite, sometimes there will be SO MANY beautiful aspects, it almost puts the couple in a haze - and to others, their relationship may appear to be "unrealistic". The vultures wait for the sh!t to hit the fan. True friends make sure they at least keep an eye on reality.

A good dose of a Saturn aspect is good for relationships so they have staying power.

Now ...

This is how I currently think of the Ascendant (Asc) when figuring stuff. It's more like what you are MEANING TO portray to other people. So, if you have a Square, it would be like that good old buddy of yours standing next to you at the party revealing something embarrassing about you, and then poking you in your ribs for good measure. That reaction is your Asc.

Thank you for all the replies.

I was the one that shortened Ascendant to As lol. Sorry for the confusion. I think Astro junkie answered my question. I should've been more clear, what i was asking was, What is the meaning of the Ascendant in a chart? Does that make sense?
