There's a few sites out there which offer information for free, which is what I'm assuming you are looking for. Astro.com, for example, will offer the Composite (takes the midpoint of two Charts, & makes a 3rd Chart) for free, but not Synastry (looks at Aspects of two individual Charts). But you can spend some time Googling, perhaps using keywords "astrology free compatibility" - something like that, and see what you discover. Share good ones that you find worth the time, and I hope others will share their finds as well. ------------------ ... it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness IP: Logged |

I discovered this great site: http://astrology3d.com/in-relat.html you have to sign up with them (it's free) and the free sample compatibility report they give you is surprisingly generous and it's very accurate- try it! They have other free samples.. IP: Logged |

Yes astrology3d.com is a great site as is astro.com. Can't run the timecapsule in astrology3d, though???Anybody's thoughts on composite charts? Linda never mentioned them, only synastry. I've always wondered the validy of composite over synestry. Any thoughts? IP: Logged |

Oh, you will get a whole lot of feedback here regarding Composite vs. Synastry. Let's see what comes in...------------------ ... it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness IP: Logged |

I think they are both very valuable (composite and synastry) and I always look at both..BUT instinctually (and this is not based on reason AT ALL) I am more drawn to synastry because it just FEELS more logical and accurate somehow..like composite is a little hocus-pocus..but don't listen to me. I think they're both worth exploring.IP: Logged |

OK, here's my best, brief shot at astro compatibility for dummies. Synastry involves looking at the planets in two peoples chart and the aspects formed between them (ie person A's sun in relation to person B's sun, person A's sun in relation to person B's moon, etc, etc, through all the planets. Likewise person B's planets in relation to person A's. You are looking at how each planet in one's chart aspects planets in another's chart. This will show you areas of compatibiity or challenge/difficulty. So when they say that Scorpio's are compatible with Cancer's for example, they are looking at one person's sun in relation to the other's sun only. Composite chart involves combining two charts by finding the midpoint between each other's planets (ie midpoint between person A's sun and person B's sun, etc) thus forming a single chart. This represents the combined energy between the two...almost like the two have joined as one and this is what that energy looks like, this is how the couple's combined energy manifests itself "as a couple". The way it is explained by Jeff Green is: The composite chart symbolizes the dynamics that exist between two people as a coupled unit, and synastry cart symbolizes the dynamics that exist BETWEEN two people as distinct individuals. Oh StarofPluto - very well done - that does make things much clearer for me... Thank You!!! Most of what I have seen then are composite charts. I suppose a combination of the two would be more helpful rather then one or the other! Also I have used both sites mentioned above and find them both useful, but think Astro 3d better for detail and length

Great explanation starofpluto!I think of the Composite as being the personality of the relationship itself. If you take it a step further, you can try to do a Synastry between your Natal & the Composite, although astro.com does NOT have the feature. It's something you can consider though - for example. If you are a very Watery dreamy type, and the Composite shows up as having a ton of really harsh Fire aspects, you being the dreamy one may not feel comfortable within that relationship, although you may feel comfortable with the other person outside of a relationship. Hope that makes sense, and don't mean for it to be too much information, but something to consider if going one step further. ------------------ ... it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness IP: Logged |

That is a really interesting idea AJ, how do you think one could try that? Do you know of a website? Or is there a DIY way to do a synastry?IP: Logged |

I've seen discussions here where there are certain astrology software's that can do it, but none free.Or You can do it the old fashioned way. Print out the placements and their degrees for the Natal and the Composite, put them side by side, and go through it. ------------------ ... it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness

Is it a problem that the apects are calculated by sign and not by degree? What are everyone's thoughts on this?IP: Logged |

Yes, I think much better by degree...what's the suggestion, 3 degree orb? Anyway,if you don't have the degrees, guess you could chance it by sign. IP: Logged |

Good point StarOfPluto - Linda Goodman's Relationships Signs" covers some basic observations. Really good.Future - I always take the Signs alone into consideration, and then if the degrees are really tight, give it more power. ------------------ ... it's better to light a candle than curse the darkness IP: Logged |

dumb question time..would it be possible to find the exact *time* between the two people and thus create the same chart as would be created in a composite? if that would work, then you could do the synastry of the composite to the natals.. hmmmmmmmmm.. IP: Logged |

I always play it safe and just use a 3-degree orb. IP: Logged |

sparkles -Haven't been able to find a "free" software to do a Synastry between a Natal and a Composite. I think it's a good thing to look at. It's interesting, but you may have to do it by counting beans. IP: Logged |
