I am a long time student of astrology. My ex is an alcholic. i have researched this to see how he might over come this thru secondary progressions and transits. I do know about the water signs and all contributing to the disease. His alcholism really got out of hand this past year, he had the following in his chart
Transits: Uranus Square his Gemini moon. (moon in 12th house natally - but gemini rising)
Pluto Oppose Jupiter (jupiter natal 1st house) He is a police officer and his out of control alcholism brought him a girlfriend that totally disrupted life and put his job on the line thur series of events with her,)
Progressed Mars in Scorpio
Progressed Sun Conjuct Uranus.
My question is he has virtually no water signs in natal. Sun-Leo Mercury - Leo
Venus- Leo Mars-Virgo. My suspicion of the drinking lies in his Progressed Moon in Scorpio. Does anyone know about researching a "recovered - sober" alcholic in a chart?
Much thanks to any insight you can give me.

Hi Bev1965

Has he had any major transits this year to or from Neptune in both the natal & progressed charts? Because when alcohol is involved, Neptune is usually the culprit.

I've noticed Virgos can be big drinkers. He does have a Virgo mars. Leo's usually like their alcohol but not to that extent. Does he have a grand square in his chart by any chance?

Twelfth house

The Moon in the twelfth house projects its influence in this sector of the chart. This placement gives a love of introspection and a need for periodic retirement from the confusion and business of the world in general. This placement is going to cause you to feel emotionally isolated from others since it is difficult for you to find emotional stability in other people. You are extremely impressionable and respond to subtle influences of those around you. With such a strong sense of charity, a release is needed to in some way be able to help others. There is opportunity for success in work within large institutions such as hospitals, the government, or large corporations, and usually for the public welfare. While you are subject to emotional chaos, you have serious difficulty expressing your emotions. The twelfth house Moon denotes a need for security that is often fulfilled though withdrawal.

Sounds to me like if he's had problems he'd feel like withdrawing from them, instead of facing up to them and so maybe he chose alcohol as his escape from the harsh realities of life. It could be the 12th house moon...

Also, is his natal moon in Libra? cause you said it's progressed into Scorp.

I know a Virgo Sun/ Libra Moon, Mercury, Venus ...Leo Mars and Asc who had the same prob.

Hi, I would point to the Uranus contact to his Sun because that can cause instability in relationships, I have Uranus trine Sun and others I know with the conjunction have let's say, strange issues with the opposite sex sometimes.

When I was younger i was more codependent in relationships, and of course attracted unstable drinking partners. Still I find those who have addiction problems who are dependent. The trine and conjunction gives a life that is devoted to relationships and friends.
Example a famous comedian has Uranus conjunct Sun, his life is run by his agent and friends, he is in and out of rehab.

The friends are so important, they have to be positive people or else. The opposite sex can be glamorous and superficial, if he does not know this person well, he will absorb their energy.

Uranus can give a godlike feeling, addictions fuel that, I would say his friends and work will change the course of his life, not his psychology.

Of course the moon uranus contact makes it even stronger, why alcohol has to do with other aspects, but he will follow his friends, If he has an Aquarian friend, partner or therapist, this will help him feel more powerful, more connected.

I also have my suspicions that water singletons often have trouble controlling themselve when drinking. They are likely to get into more trouble with alcohol than someone with a lot of water.

From my personal experience, Aries are big drinkers too. In fact, almost everyone in my life who is/was an alcoholic are Aries.

Aries are emotional drinkers, so at least you know they are drinking. Geminis and Scorpios are more detached and can hold it, so they can be really gone before you figure it out. A Gemini can have entire relationship in another personality, so it's confusing, it's a competitive thing,

Think of Dean Martin
"Come on, don't be a p....y! Have a real drink!"
