does anyone know? i just read that mercury is in its fall in pisces.. i'm just wondering because my boyfriend has this and he tends to get depressed/overwhelmed really easily.. and canNOT see outside of it. he's also pisces sun, and does not have a lot of air in general in his chart, so this seems to makes sense.. he feels this spiritual despair sometimes, and it takes a while to help him throo it, but it's so overwhelming for him, and i just wonder if that relates to this placement. especially the retrograde thing..?

any ideas?

Probably just a bit more difficulty figuring out ones feelings in time to be able to share it with others, especially in a social setting - maybe not so much in private. There may also be talent in the sciences.

thanks astro junkie.. i wondered if it related to depression, but that makes sense too. he does have a hard time expressing feelings, and gets VERY low on himself at times, feeling extremely inept and inadequate, sometimes even spiritually doomed.. (which does relate), and i have to help him express them, which he is able to do once the effort of my finding out is put forth!

also, he is a sciency guy.. wondering, how does that figure in?

thanks!!

Btw, my Merc in in Scorp and retro!

MERCURY RETROGRADE: If Mercury is retrograde at birth, the mental apparatus opposes the natural order of life in one or more of its functions and should be carefully explored. The mind is most likely turned inward, away from ordinary social stimuli and conventions. Such an inward turn may result from some form of perceptual or intellectual deficit. Autism, autistic thinking, or psychosis may be present if other indications are present.
A person born with Mercury retrograde, or whose progressed Mercury has turned retrograde, may appear to think strangely or peculiarly. They may appear to be withdrawn, introverted, or limited in their thinking, communicating, or perceiving. They may appear to unclearly or act uncertain mentally.

The purposes behind this inward turn may be to seek new ways of thinking, new ways of adapting to one's environment, a new understanding of one's own mind, or new ways to contact the inner spiritual world. A person with Mercury retrograde may be attempting to think independently. He or she may be fascinated with their own thoughts and ideas. The individual's strengths may lie in meditation, creativity, poetic ability, writing, humor, theoretical mathematics, or psychic ability. Contact with one's inner self or higher power may be strong.
Whether or not Mercury is retrograde at birth, it will change directions, signs, houses, and aspects several times during the lives of most people. These changes indicate the timing of powerful, personal challenges, opportunities, and abilities.

* Mercury in Pisces symbolizes an impressionable, intuitive, sensitive mind. You are likely to be much more intuitive than rational in your thinking. You may be very interested in psychology, mysticism, and religion. You may use poetry, music, or dance to express yourself. You are very likely to be compassionate, feeling-oriented, kind, sensitive, sympathetic, and understanding. Pisces is both the detriment and the fall of Mercury. Logic, fine analysis, and attention to detail are likely to be missing in your thinking. Despite the overly sensitive and compassionate nature of Mercury in Pisces, it can indicate someone who likes theories and abstract mathematics, or someone who does well in the military. You may also be drawn to hypnosis and past lives.

Hope that helps!

Wow!

Well -

What House is his Mercury in?

If he is really trying to express his feelings, and it takes him a long time, give him quiet time alone to contemplate. Although I have no Retrogrades in my Chart (THANK GOD!) - I do take a while to simmer on my feelings sometimes. And if his Moon or Mercury is in the 3rd or 6th House like mine, it will be even MORE important to him because they are both Ruled by Mercury. It's just time that's needed.

A Mercury in Pisces can be very scientific in a brilliantly "intuitive" way.

this:

is totally true..

and so is the descriptor for mercury in pisces! he isextremely intuitive and thinks like NO ONE else i've ever met. very bizarely, intricately, and has the best sense of humour in the world. for some reason, 99% of the time we understand eachother perfectly well (just the emotion thing gets sticky and tricky). i attribute this to the fact that i think weirdly too, being so aqua..

his mercury's in the 8th.. so i guess this would explain why his thots-as-feelings can be SO intense? and why he can feel so overwhelmed with the pain and darkness on his path to light? he's pisces sun, too, so maybe he gets himself in mentally cathartic situations, only to become totally overwhelmed and uncertain once he's there. could this be a way to look at it, being that this is occuring in his 8th house?

hey, would there be any significance to his mercury being conjunctmy juno?

(and his sun, and *his* juno is widely [9 degrees] conjunct my mercury and mars, and 13 degrees from my sun, if that's pertinent..)

Does any of this resonate?

"If Mercury is in the 8th House and dignified or received -

It shows an interest in the occult and the mysterious. The marriage partner may be better equipped to handle the finances. But if in debility or afflicted it shows possible danger of robbery or mugging (square or opposite an out of sect Mars), or of being conned and swindled or subject to forgery, and constant change in a partners finances.

In keeping with the corruption theme this house often has; according to Valens: "If the star of Hermes alone should be present upon the zoidion, and should have authority of thought over what is called spirit, it makes those who are dull and unintelligent". [34] The idea here is that if Mercury rules the lot of spirit it and occupies the 8th, it somehow corrupts the mind.

Paulus says something similar: "...it will make dullards and simpletons or idlers, if indeed it should occur under the solar beams". [35] The "solar beams" refers to a condition where a planet is too close to the Sun to be seen."

hey! hmm. that doesn't really seem like him. where did you get that particular info? i'm curious.. it seems really strange!i would think that being in the 8th it would have more to do with catharticism and the like. he's not that sort of gentleman!

OK - then consider that his Mercury is in the 8th House - but RETROGRADE -

So does it seem like things he would "struggle" with? That's the only thing missing from the interpretation, it's not specific to the fact that we are interpreting for someone who's Natal Mercury is Retrograde. See what I mean? So he might feel challenged when it comes to those things related to that 8th House ...

Hi,
I am a pisces with Planetary positions -

planet sign degree house motion
Sun Pisces 01°40'21 11 direct
Moon Taurus 24°57'25 01 direct
Mercury Pisces 04°55'44 11 direct
Venus Aries 12°45'49 12 direct
Mars Taurus 07°00'52 12 direct
Jupiter Capricorn 02°33'03 08 direct
Saturn Taurus 29°59'02 01 direct
Uranus Libra 17°56'47 06 retrograde
Neptune Sagittarius 05°11'34 07 direct
Pluto Libra 01°27'37 05 retrograde
True Node Aquarius 04°57'42 10 retrograde

Which clearly shows Mercury is in piesces, but its not retrogate and its in 11 th house. Then, whatever said so far is it same for me too??? What does mean by retrograde?

Cheers,
Sudeep

hey astro junkie,

sorry i was DISTRACTED (ahem, you know who you are) when i was typing out my reply earlier..

i think that i was most confused by the references to some dudes i don't know. that's why i was curious as to the source..

the corruption theme doesn't fit him. he is a bit nuts tho.. and has a bit of a self-destructive thingy, which we are resolving promptly. but nothing to do with bank robbing and the like. yet.

the first part fit, as he is into occultish thinking, to a degree, and mysticism forsure. it just seems so harsh, that description.. sorta kinda. you know? and he's not dumb, he's actually extremely intelligent. tho kinda idle, yeah.. uh.. but more like lazy. is this what is meant?

I would just keep observing him firsthand, keep studying astrology to see what applies and to what degree it applies. It's actually good news if you say he feels the influence only mildly, which could be due to other influences or Aspects in his Chart. Most of us have contradictions in our Chart, and so we all have bad days, but they usually don't last forever unless there's more going on which may be known only to him. There's no easy solutions sometimes.
