Can you tell me how one would know if a planet was strong and well placed, or if it is weak in strength/afflicted by malefic planets?Where do you look, and how can you tell? Layman terms, if possible please. Or some really cool links would be great! IP: Logged |

I have been thinking about this lately too. This is my understanding: it depends on the planet and its particular energy. For example- it is said that a 12th house Mars is a difficult placement- the 12th huose being a place where Mars doesn't really feel at home, somewhat hampered you know? But for example, a 12th house Mercury is said to be a good placement. Also- about aspects- it, again, has to do with energies...two planets conjunct can be great, or difficult, depending on what they do to each other. Example- a Venus and Sun conjunction would be good..the two energies blend well. But Venus and Saturn- Saturn brings down Venus' high spirits. Sometimes it can be "too much of a good thing"- for example, a Venus and Jupiter conjunction. Might lead to some excesses and overindulgent nature. But also there is a more direct way of "calculating" the strength of the planet. Here is a neat table I found that might help you: http://www.astrologycom.com/values.html This is something else I found The benefic planets are: · Jupiter · Venus · Moon when waxing (located within 180 degrees after the Sun) · Mercury when associated with benefic planets. The malefic planets are: · Saturn · Mars · Sun · Moon when waning (located within 180 degrees before the Sun) · Mercury when associated with malefic planets Take this with a grain of salt..I'm not too certain about it, because I've read different things elsewhere. actually, here is the article I got that from. It's Vedic, but still informative and not too complex: http://www.astrologyforthesoul.com/vp/vedicastrologylesson5planetsgrahas.html I guess it would seem that there isn't a textbook way of determining the strength, it's sort of looking at different things, weighing them, analyzing, intergrating. hope this helped. Hi.Any planets located in or approximate to the angles of houses 1, 4, 7, and 10, are accentuated. Planets also have signs in which their functions are emphasized or de-emphasized. This is a good place to start: http://groups.msn.com/HOROSCOPESCHAT/rulersdignities.msnw Also, Vedic astrologers recognize what they call "Critical Degrees", and any planets located here are said to be "blessed":
In the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn): Degrees 0, 13, and 26 In the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius): Degrees 9 and 21 In the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces): Degrees 4 and 17 And anything closely aspecting the Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, or Pluto, is probably strengthened, too. Happy hunting! IP: Logged | |
