How much do you think your personality is influenced by astrology and how much do you think by your parents//upbringing/friends/TV/films/life experiences etc?I wonder if in the past, without access to tv/films and easy travel people were less exposed to too many influences and maybe more true to their natal chart)? if this is a silly question let me know... ok, for me its astrology - 65%... life experiences, upbringing, friends etc. 35%. As for the media, that affects all of us on a conscious/subcoscious level, it's hard for me to pin down what impact its had on me. As a society though, I deffinetly think that we've evolved a lot in good and bad ways. Things seem a lot simpler in the past, less outside influences, less complications - less technology. I don't think people were more true to their chart though, simply because personal life experiences and upbringing would've still played an important role in every individual's particular life. If anything life experiences bk then, seem to me as more intense, real, down to earth rather than our more disensitized life experiences today.. IP: Logged |

I think that you will find the environment percentage much higher. I'd say astrology 40%, environment 60%. I've been interested in this area for a while because I'm a faternal twin and my brother is much different than I am in many ways.Part of this stems from him being so much bigger than I was when we were younger, getting into sports like football where size mattered, and being in the jock group at school while I was in the non-jock group. As a result he is an extrovert while I am an introvert. These things being environmental in nature, not birthchart. Lanny IP: Logged |

I would say astrology 10%. Nuture and nature go hand in hand, so 45% each.IP: Logged |

When you think about it i don't really think you can seperate upbringing and astrology, for example i was speaking to someone who i work with who is a professional astrologer she has not even seen my chart yet and only know my sun sign, she told me that i seem very much like a cancer and i have no real cancer influence in my chart however my mother is cancer rising; she display's a lot if her rising sign in her personality at home and i think that i have picked up some of those traits from her.Just something to think about.IP: Logged |

Lanny - What do you think of the observation/assertion by some that twins often end-up playing out different areas of their shared/respective charts?---- I'm going to be a maverick and say that it's equal parts of all - 100% all around. Our environment, influences, etc. determine which parts of our charts'll play out, but it's all there - either extant or presented. Now, when you get to the level of your soul, I'd say that that's when you get to the interesting bit...that's what can allow you to learn and perhaps move away from all other factors. But, as some'll say, that's just my onion. IP: Logged |

I would say:60% Astrology 20% Environment 20% Experiences My thought on this subject comes from the fact that we may not have been able to control our upbringing as much as we would like...so, I think that our personality and astrological influences help shape the 'outcome' of our experiences. (ie-how we evolve over time, learning our lessons or not, what we take with us from whatever life happenings). We all 'process' situations differently, very much based on our innate being. Lanny's experiences with being a twin always calls into question the validity of astrological influences, however, I would be interested in finding out why one twin is extroverted and the other introverted...astrologically. The experiences certainly speak louder here as to this effect. Is there an influence that shapes a specific part of our personality based on just that-an experience? (Something so maleable that one's physique alone may develop an introvert vs an extrovert?)Hmmm... GemStar IP: Logged |
