Topic: American Idol Male finalists - Mostly Taurus!

Hi was watching last night and they showed everyone's Sun sign! which is pretty cool. Anyhow out of 8 finalists, 4 were Taurus, 1 Virgo, 1 Gemini, 1 Aries and 1 Scorpio!
So 5 earth, 1 air, fire and water.
Thought it was interesting. Oh those musical Taureans! I do have the names if anyone wants to know.
I wonder what Signs the girls will consist of?

Hiya Autumn wind!I was also watching last night, LOL when they actually showed their signs and had them describe their qualities. That was pretty cool, esp. the funky background with the constellations & all! Tonight, among the girls, they had 2 Pisceans, 1 Aquarian, 1 Scorpio, 1 Gemini, 1 Libran and 2 Capricorns (I was so happy to finally see my sign represented!  ) I liked the husky-voiced Aquarian, and the Scorpio (though i'm not into country, i still think she's an awesome vocalist!). So, not all the signs were represented, eh? I don't seem to remember a Sagittarius? or Leo? or Cancer, for that matter. Sunshine IP: Logged |

yes I did notice there were not any Cancers, Leos or Saggies! That's too bad, it would have been more interesting! At first I guessed Mikalah as a Saggie. I'm crappy at guessing by just looking at a person, I have to hear them talk a bit first, then sometimes I get it right.
Does anyone know what signs Kelly Clarkson, Reuben and Fantashia are? IP: Logged |

I'm not complaining but does anyone know why they're suddenly mentioning the idol hopeful's sun signs? Just curious...I was surprised to see that there aren't any Leos in the whole bunch! I thought there would be at least one... :frown: IP: Logged |

Yeah, I was surprised too, to see that Mikalah's a Cappie; she's too ebullient for a Cappie. Maybe she's got a Saggie Ac or something, like me  , or maybe a Leo Ac.So, they never did this in previous years, huh! My guess is, they're doing it now since they have only 8 people singing in the 1 hour, they have to find some way to make the show last a whole hour! All the same, I think it's pretty interesting. I wonder if the contestants' friendships are pretty typical of what you'd expect (ie. Earths & Waters get along better, as do Air & Fire signs). Also, what would you expect the judges' signs to be? I'm guessing Simon's a Saggie, or at least has a Mercury in Sag. (he's always blunt about his opinion of the contestants' skills, or lack thereof) IP: Logged |

Hi Sunshine -Not only was your sign represented - capricorn - the strongest contestant, in my opinion is Natalie, a capricorn. She is polished, gorgeous, and has the total package. A star. The one aries contender - can't remember his name - is so aries. He isn't a strong singer, but he sure can dance - and he just radiates energy. Just can't sing. I also thought it was interesting that so many of the male contestants were taurus sun signs. Fun topic.

Don't really like Mikalah,
Whats kind of funny that I've noticed is that earth and water signs tend to have a really good dance-sense in them naturally if you know what I mean, not that fire/air signs aren't good dancers, but usually its an acquired trait rather than inborn...Maybe its because most fire/air signs have choppy, sporadic sort of movements that relate to the type of energy bursts associated with their signs,r ather than the flowy elegant movements of the water/earth signs. Virgos and Cancers, in particular, tend to be the best dancers from my personal observation; some prime celebrity examples are Michael Jackson (Virgo) and Beyonce Knowles (also a Virgo), must be some cancers I am not thinking of but all the ones I know personally are so graceful and dance so beautifully... I can't believe how many people I know who are born on Oct 7, like Simon. I personally know around 5. Also there are quite a few other famous people born on that day. eg. John cougar Mellencamp, I forget the rest, anyhow a lot! I was born Oct.6, and I don't know anyone else born on that day!

Here's my take on American idle, be prewarned this has some negative components and may cause flameage. In the last season of American Idol they had an astrologer do readings on the contesants, which was ok, it wasn't too bad. But this time they are really going crazy with it, its completely up front in your face and it's aboslutely rediculous. I like that astrology is gaining a hold in the mainstream, but they way they represent it is completely rediculous and superficial, and perpetuates the shallow image of astrology in the mainstream. Astrology and american idol go hand and hand, both represent aquarian values to a T. Since idol is so aquarian its not suprirsing to see astrology making an appearance. The individual, the group, the judges, the appearances, the cell phone voting, the internet, it truly epitomies the current era. For this I find it amazing, but having astrology represented in such a vapid way, " I'm a pisces that means i'm dreamy blah blah," really gets me. The way mainstream media represent things, minorities, homosexuals, and many others, is so completely retarted, superficial, and out of touch with reality. American Idol is awesome, I love it, I love what it represents, but I hope they leave astrology alone... IP: Logged |

key, I liked Natalie too. And Constantine (like him a lot! ), and Bo; i found myself rooting more for the rockers than anyone else! I thought that the Scorpio girl who sings country (forget her name) and Anwar are two really strong vocalists, as also Natalie. Was very surprised that Mario stayed, while Nikko left!SG, yeah, NO WONDER Paula was flirting so much with Simon (and still is), LOL!! It's funny how she manages to disagree with every single POV of his! BlueRoamer, I agree with what you were saying; the contestants' comments on their personalities "because I'm such-&-such sign" seemed rather forced, and it just revealed how superficial their knowledge is of astrology. You can't really peg someone as having all the characteristics of one sun sign; what about the rest of their chart? When they do this on national TV, they run the risk of making it (astrology) seem like a huge joke. Hopefully this time, they won't do that...

For the most part I agree that they are oversimplifying astrology and actually perpetuating the stereotypes that exist about it (for ex. that astrology categorizes all humans into 12 types, which is wrong because like sunshine said, its about the whole chart, and in the end, every planet, house, placement, aspect etc. contributes a piece to the puzzle). However, it is to be seen whether this superficial 'use' of astrology to promote or differentiate the contestants, will actually result in a typical casting of astrology as a simple naive science, or a more complex one to be explored. Maybe, it just might spark someones interest, and that person could go ahead and research it further. For the most part though, I would say its only helping perpetuate weird stereotypes about it rather than dispelling them. But oh well, what do you expect the average, non-astrology educated to say about it...although they should really do their research before they put it on national TV. In the end I end up confusing myself rather than clarifying things. oops.... *makes quiet exit out* IP: Logged |
