what does everybody think of this?
I am playing in two bands at the moment, one in church, and one that's totally seperate. I havn't been here in a while, but I thought you might find this funny.
My guitar has four astrological signs on it, my sun, Ascendant, moon, & the sign that numerologically represents my birth day & date. The keyboardist at my church one day decides to ask what they mean, so I tell her. Next thing I know she's telling me how aweful I am for having them on, & telling me that I should only rely on God, & telling everyone else how evil they are.
Of course nobody cared but her(I go to a contemporary service we're all pretty opened minded. She doesn't like it though she just gets payed to play there).
I wouldn't say that I gave every ounce of my faith to astrology at all, I just happen to know there is some logic in it, and I personally don't know why she was judging somthing she knew absoloutly nothing about.

i tend to get majorly peeved at stuff like this, so i'll do my best to keep my mouth shut.

why not just say "hey, led zeppelin put out that four symbols album and look what it did for them?"

goes off with her lame cappy rising dry humor while humming battle of evermore.

hey BofE (that sounds like BofA!)

Thats happened to me before coz I am traditionally 'religious', but i like to think of it as spiritual religious, not in a ritualistic way. So when I go to my religious ceremonies etc. people there go like wtf "Why are you so into being a Gem with Scorp moon ???" or why are u into astro (for ex. if they see my bumper sticker on my car )

I used to launch into this explanation over how my religion doesn't condemn astrology but in fact promotes it as a knowledge to be learned, yadda yadda. then i realized these people really don't listen, they don't make these remarks to learn your side of the story, they jus make it to get out their prejudiced opinions as well as demean other ppls beliefs! Theres no two way dialogue going on there, so no use explaining at all...

Now I just say something like "Why did you get dumped by some Gem with Scorp moon " and try to turn it on them.

Thats what they get for messin with my Scorp Pluto. mwahah.

Oh God Battle, how tiresome a woman to come across. I was raised as a Jehovahs Witness and that nearly screwed me up, but had the beauty of turning me into a rebel - I now love astro, tarot, witches and all that stuff and I am sure my mother is one of those types of women you are referring to. Well I would paint an inverted cross on the guitar (sorry I couldn't resist that). Seriously I would ask her to refer to the holy book where it says judge not or you will be judged (or words to that effect). Personally I cannot tolerate that pious type of person (and they often seem to be frustrated older women). After this I would break into Raining Blood by Slayer - sorry again still a rebel at my age, when will I ever learn. I would give her some answer that she wouldn't forget - good luck, please keep us posted x

Next time you see her eating lunch, tell her how awful she is, and how she really ought to rely on God alone, etc., etc.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Battle of Evermore (love that song, thinking of mandolins right now.......)
This instance of intolerance reminds me of an email joke I got a few weeks ago....I doubt that if you explained the dynamics of it to this petty and small-minded person she would even listen, let alone understand. Ah well, we all come down here to Schoolroom Earth and start at a particular level. It's regrettable that so many people these days chose to start at low levels of spiritual evolution (but there I go judging someone else)!
It's sad that there is so much fear of the "unknown" and the "different" in people. The "if you don't do and believe as I do, then there's something wrong with you" mentality.
Here's the joke:

THERMODYNAMICS OF HELL

The following is an actual question given on University of Washington
Chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the
professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course,
why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Bonus Question:

Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law, (gas cools off when it expands and heats up when it is compressed) or some variant, but fell short in producing a demonstration argument. One
student, however, wrote the following:
~~~~~~~~~
First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate that souls are moving into Hell and the rate they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell,
it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.
As for how many souls are entering Hell, lets look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there are more than one of these religions and since people do not belong
to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature
and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.
This gives two possibilities:
1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.
Considering then the postulate presented to me by Teresa K. during my Freshman year: that "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and take into account the fact that over two years later, I still
have not succeeded in having relations with her; then, #2 cannot be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and will not freeze.
The student received the only "A" given.
oh that's great! lol! i've often thought about the fact that considering we all seem to contradict each other, i guess we must all be going to hell,although somehow i find that very unlikely. i don't even know if i believe in eternal damnation, why would you want your own children to suffer? . i definately don't consider myself very religious either, i'm much more spiritual. the way i look at it is that religion is a man made way of worshiping god, and with it comes predudice, hate, and countless other negatives which come with everything created by man. while on the other hand, spirituality is your natural connection with the higher spirit in which you realize that we are all one and all branches of the same tree. now what can be more flawless about the bond and connection naturally present and given by god?
Yeah, that was great! And I love Led Zeppelin!
I say just let it slide. This person is obviously holding too tightly to her beliefs while condemming all other beliefs because of a lack of stability, I would take pity on her, like "Oh, my gosh, I'm so sorry that you feel that way. It's sad how you value your beliefs above all others even before you learn about them. If you ever need to talk about your issues, let me know if I can help. Or maybe you can ask God for assistance next time you pray, huh?" (of course in the sweetest voice possible, like you are speaking to a lost child.
I think its cool that you can balance various beliefs in your life. More power to you!
Battle ~
I am SOOOO with you! I am a spiritual being, NEVER "religious". I know that a lot of people find strength, solace and communion with God in their houses of worship, but it's just not for me. Perhaps I'm being prejudiced and intolerant again , but I think the mainstream man-made religions in the world have perverted the Word of God, if you want to call it that. I do not believe in any eternal damnation or burning lakes of fire. I also do not believe in the premise that you only get one lifetime to do it all correctly (according to The Good Book, which is the ONLY book according to some like your keyboardist) so that you can enter Heaven. And I'm a little confused about the teaching (and I probably have it wrong) that all souls stay in Limbo until Armageddon when the worthy are raised up into Heaven?
I believe there is a "Heaven", which is The Other Side, one of many higher vibrations of being, that we are just on a momentary camping trip down here on Earth to learn lessons we chose to learn before we came here.
Thanks, Heart--Shaped Steve, or are you Diogenes of Sinope? Got the story from a bud in Seattle. Great postulate, huh?!?
YAYYYY, zoso ~ great comeback retort!!!
one day battle of evermore you will realise that some ways of studying astrology are almost as troublesome to learning as being a fundamentalist --
sid gemini.
also my poet handle is
kashmir
all i see turns to brown
while the sun burns the ground.
basically if you learn what sidereal astrology is, well...if you learn, well that's not the earth shaking, just the foundation of what you believed in. mindblower though. guitars are cool. mine is covered with stickers that say
IN CASE OF FIRE CALL POLICE
OR DIAL 911
