Hey, i also wondered about that.. This is how the legend goes.. quote: The Devil card of the Tarot deck may have been directly derived from the myth and pictures of the Greek god Pan who was seen as a man with goat's legs. He was miraculously transformed into a fish-goat when he was attacked by a giant flame breathing monster Typhon (Cetus.) Although Pan was born deformed with a half goat body, when he jumped into the river the upper half of his body became goat-like and the lower part changed into a fish tail in order to help him to swim from Cetus. To celebrate this event, Zeus placed his form in the sky over the stars of Capricorn. Pan's name means "all," and the refers to the productive powers of nature. In heaven he was a wind god who sent plenty of rain for abundant growth of vegetation.

I don't have a source for this, but I read somewhere that The seagoat came out of the sea to show man how to live. IP: Logged |

Dag! I've never noticed this. Maybe that's why the graphic symbol for Capricorn looks like a big "V" (the goats horns?) with a little curly-que thing hanging off it (fish tail?)
Here's some more cool ones ... I NEVER KNEW THIS!! *(smacking forehead)*
AND ...
Here's some lore on it - http://members.iinet.net.au/~stargaze/capricorn.htm IP: Logged |

I wonder if Aquarius was later put "IN BETWEEN" Capricorn and Pisces as a transition was needed, in the same way that Libra is said to have been inserted between Virgo (the Virgin) and Scorpio (sexual knowledge) ...IP: Logged |

Yup - that's true too about Virgo ... something else I never truly realized ...
All you Virgo's GOTTA read this article I found - REALLY interesting excerpts :::
"...But the outward lack of feeling may, in some individuals born under this sign, conceal too much emotion, to which they are afraid of giving way because they do not trust others, nor do they have confidence in themselves and their judgments. This is because they are conscious of certain shortcomings in themselves of worldliness, of practicality, of sophistication and of outgoingness. So they bring the art of self concealment to a high pitch, hiding their apprehensiveness about themselves and their often considerable sympathy with other people under a mantle of matter-of-factness and undemonstrative, quiet reserve. They are still waters that run deep. Yet in their unassuming, outwardly cheerful and agreeable fashion, they can be sensible, discreet, well spoken, wise and witty, with a good understanding of other people's problems which they can tackle with a practicality not always evident in their own personal relationships..." "...Virgo is the second-largest constellation in the sky. It is depicted as an angel with wings, holding an ear of wheat..." "...He sent down Pandora, the first woman. Ancient Greeks believed that women were the source of all evil and discomfort. The symbolic representation of women's corruption of humanity is Pandora's Box, which was filled with all the demons which torture humanity, from Greed to Spite. After Pandora unleashed these demons, the remaining immortals on earth quickly departed for Olympus. The last one to leave was Astraea, the daughter of Zeus and Themis. She was also the sister of Pudicitia, or Modesty. Astraea was the goddess of virtue. Although she went to the heavens, she still hopes to return to earth, and she watches from the sky every night to see when earth will be ready for her to return..." www.crystalinks.com/virgo.html Some more lore ...

Maybe the curve on the right side of the glyph is the wing tucked under?

The Mutable Night Force -I'm not sure if Aquarius was later put in between Capricorn & Pisces. Just a question I'm putting out there, but I'll look and see what I can find. I know the thing about Libra being put between Virgo & Scorpio is true, but I'm not sure about Gemini. I understand the Zodiac evolution of having Gemini there, just not sure if it was put "in between" at a later time. I'll look into that too. IP: Logged |

Thanks! Although I don't understand how something can just be slipped in to make things more convenient. I mean, if it wasn't there, then no one would be a Libra, which is just ridiculous!Oh, and crudely enough, I think the loop in the Virgo symbol is meant to represent a women's sexual organs. Although thinking that it's a wing is nicer IP: Logged |

The Mutable Night Force -I don't think it's a matter of "slipping" something in, or "convenience". Has more to do with discovery & synchronization. IP: Logged |
