In Astrology an affliction is a planet in bad aspect (include aspects to the angles) or a planet that is in its fall or detriment.IP: Logged |

I just wanted to add, that you would probably need more than one thing going on for a planet to be considered afflicted..for instance the moon in scorpio(sign of the moon's "fall") and the moon in a t-square pattern with saturn...something like that.doublevenus IP: Logged |

Why do you think that it means more than one thing? As if it were compounded you mean?IP: Logged |

I don't consider a planet afflicted if it has, for instance, just one hard aspect. It would have to have more difficulties going on besides that for me to consider it afflicted.IP: Logged |

Technically, the classic astrology texts may call it "afflicted" if it be one hard aspect, or one planet in detriment or fall.Personally, I don't view it that way. I find a lot of classic astrology terminology to be negative. One hard aspect can easily be mitigated by something else going on in the chart. Energy transforms as we progress through life, so I don't use that wording, unless something's really get bombarded. But for the purposes of teaching, yours is the classic definition. doublevenus IP: Logged |

Well, it's a very interesting argument. To me, my very worst hard Aspect has been enough to make life hell at times. My Moon in Cancer in the 3rd, Opposite Saturn in Capricorn in the 9th. Don't think there's any getting around that one, no matter how good the other stuff is in the Chart. But I don't know ... I'm open to suggestions ...IP: Logged |

That's a tough one, for sure, astro junkie, What other aspects do the moon and saturn make in the chart?I've got moon/saturn conjunct in Leo. both square my sun in Taurus. Pluto's conjunct the moon too. Fun, fun, fun..lol I have to fight most of the time to not be sad. Sun gets no help. the moon makes some sextiles to Neptune/Mercury, but that still makes for sensitivity. I do have a nice trine between mars/leo and jupiter/sag, so when push comes to shove, I am an optimist. I think your moon/saturn opposition would have a Hard time releasing the past. doublevenus IP: Logged |

Okay, astro junkie..this poor little Cancer moon is officially afflicted (wry smile) You didn’t mention it, but do you have squares between Mars and Saturn/Jupiter, making this a full blown t-square?I noticed the same thing as lovely did; Saturn, Moon, even Mars are dignified in their own signs. The 3rd house, according to the ancients, was “The house of the Moon goddess”, so in spite of what’s going on, your moon is good in the 3rd. Still, Cancer’s are very easily imprinted by early family conditions. They tend to take things on in a personal way. So even things that were not meant to be hurtful, have a tendency to wound just the same. My feeling is that our deep wounds don’t “heal” but are re-visited, and each time are better integrated. So it is very important to love and nurture the self unconditionally, since it was lacking from other sources, for whatever the reason. The moon/mars square also points to conflict, which Librans do not handle well. But both planets are in water signs, which may help a bit, as opposed to two signs that conflict. Nevertheless, safety and security are uppermost in your mind, materially and emotionally.. The Jupiter/Saturn conjunction, in Capricorn, is associated with material success and you should have an excellent head for business. As you probably know, Capricorns do better in later years. While the rest of the world ages, you’re just hitting your stride So there Is a prize for hanging in there With the strong 9th house activity, you gain strength as you come to terms with your own beliefs, and as they become a part of you. You conquer your own nature and come into your own authority. You’re very wise and fair, and would make a great lawyer, judge or teacher. (Or board moderator Presently, transit Saturn is opposing natal Saturn, and this is significant in the Saturn cycle. (Don’t know the timing on this) but indicates changes in direction and goals. Can you relate?? doublevenus

lovely* -It WOULD seem as if it would be easy since the Moon is in Cancer, Saturn in Capricorn, their natural Rulers. But for me, it just seems to intensify it that much more. Make it that much more "on point" if that makes any sense. If they weren't working against each other, it would work FOR me. They are like two Generals in the military, and Cardinal's at that. If I'm in "work mode" - I'm fine. But as soon as people "at work" try to befriend me, I have a difficult time merging the friendship (my emotions) with the blockheaded workaholic. It's like I lose respect in the work environment if I do that, hence, one of my three top rules in life "never get involved with someone I work with" ... Now, once you let my Lunatic Moon out to play, somehow, it invites my Aquarius MC and my Uranus in Leo in the 4th to play. Try to be taken seriously at work when you're seesawing in this manner. I'm better and happier behind the scenes, although my Singleton Fire Uranus Leo & North Node in Leo would have you think otherwise. I agree, good analysis doublevenus. Yeah, having the Moon in Cancer in the 3rd is very very similar to a Gemini with a Cancer Moon, which I think is one of the most challenging combinations. This along with my Sun in Libra in the 5th makes me quite compatible with Gemini types.
Didn't notice that Transiting Saturn was Opposing my Natal Saturn. No wonder stuff which has happened recently within the last 2 weeks is FORCING me to change my entire outlook on life. IP: Logged | |
