synastry compares the planetary aspects of two charts. a composite is an "average" of two charts, it is a synthesis of two charts made into one. so its apples and oranges, synastry looks at 2 charts, composite is 1 chart (arrived at by combining 2 charts.)a composite for me (born in 1979) and my fiance (born in 1981) produces a chart for a non-existent person born in 1980. www.astro.com has articles in the "introduction to astrology section".
