Hopefully someone more versed will be along to give you answers, as I am still learning but, here is what I understand, with regard to figuring out the effects of synastry, to be

If you are familiar with the characteristics of each sign and, the concerns of each house, then looking at only one charts planetary placements into the others houses, gives where the planet person's chart affects the other's issues... I think that the trick is in doing the read into it, this way. I mean, by interpreting chart A's planet affects to chart B and, then vise-versa- chart B's planet affects to chart A-
Basically, both people are affected, in both planet and house, by each other. Based on sign and, the previous two factors, it will show what area of life and, in what way, one may experience with and, the affects of, the partner, in those areas.

Well, I don't know how well that has come out, as far as clarity but, hopefully you can get some use of it and, like I said, someone experienced in synastry, hopefully, will be of more assistance to you,.... and, me !
