Ok folks...as I am an Astrology newbie...could anyone tell me why is Aries isconsidered the First sign of the zodiac?
Should that not be bestowed upon Aquarius, the first sign to be in whole, not the previous year also, as is Capricorn.

Good point, I never thought about it.
Is it because of spring? ok I’m guessing but still it could also have something to do with mythology. But I’m no expert.

I guess someone must have made that decision right?

n also becoz the zodiac is a complete circle .. and well no circle has any beggining and any end .. so..mi guess is that v could assume it 2 start it from anywhere..n end anywhere.
is mi gess rite?
like the zodiac could start from gemini and end with taurus?

Linda Goodman put a whole lot of hidden gems in her book "Love Signs". She explains the karmic cycle, and why it is the way it is...

I also remember reading that earlier calandars and cycles reflected the astrological start of the year differently than the calendar start.. for reasons having to do with spring and newness, as opposed to the time and calendar keeping of modern man.

Linda was an Aries..right? So maybe she just did it because of that.....
Also different cultures from the present to back into time started the year in different months from us(America). Other things too like September means seven, yet it is our 8th. month. The same for October, which is the 9th. month, but means 8. So going by that logic; February would be the First month, and since most of that month is Aquarius....then I think Aquarius should be the first sign. Also when some talk about the cosmic/zodiac circle, they start with aquarius, and each time it comes back around it is supposed to be indicative of radical changes...especially of a spiritual nature in human awareness. That is just my opinion and reasoning.....
PS. however, if the months are progressed from the true numerical meanings of Sept/Oct.;
then March would be the first month. But March is mostly for Pisces, and only a little for Aries. So Pisces would be #1.
By splitting the difference...Pisces wins that #1 status in my way of looking at it from those perspectives.

Aries is meant to be the baby of the zodiac, Taurus the toddler.. .. virgo the adult and so on.. I don't know all of them of by heart. By the way I mean Aries as a sign and Taurus as a sign etc (not aries and taurus ppl, because the signs can be found anywhere in a chart and impact on that area)

It isn't only Linda that put Aries first, it's pretty much common practice in most newspapers. magz and online.. to list the signs from Aries to Pisces.. I think it does make sense to list from youngest to oldest. I'd find it a bit weird for the circle to start with Pisces, which is kind of an old sign - it'd be like 1. grampa, 2 baby, 3. toddler etc.. it just seems twisted but if i was an Aqua I think I'd like it twisted just so it's not normal

I read about spring starting in Pisces, though it use to start in Aries.. there's all kindsa diff opinions and theories on that as well. Besides I'm in Aust so to me it starts in autumn anyways lol

I believe it's to do with the whole reincarnation thing that some people associate with Astrology. As a soul learns it progresses through the zodiac. At least that's kind of the thing you read about in Astrology.

Aries is the new soul, and Pisces is said to incorporate all the signs. I don't personally see all the signs within Pisces, but that is supposed to be the truth of it (and Pisces do get along with everyone). My sign Capricorn is supposed to represent old people, though, so I don't know how that all works. Are Aquarius and Pisces older than Capricorn?

i said that n u people dint pay any attention ..
what i m saying is that if v look towards life .. then well v can arange the signs as aries first n pisces last..(aries being that of birth n pisces of death) ..n also looking at many other nature-cycles that seems justified..
mi point is that.. there certainly shud be some other "things" or theories" in nature that would say that v can take any sign as the first sign.. and the sign 12th to it as the last 1.... what i m saying is that .. consistent to " something " (what i do not now) .. scorp say could become the first sign n libra the last 1.. .. did linda not count like that?
in those last pages of love signs? where taurus n cancer she says will have the same type of relationship as gemini and leo .. and so on.... did u follow me?

The sun enters Aries on the Vernal Equinox, the beginning of spring, life, etc. Spring is the beginning...

Yeah, it's true, Linda Goodman did go through this and worded it so well -

Aries represents our first impulse. Then gradually, we evolve from the "me" to the "us". The first 6 Signs are concerned with "me", and Libra is the first Sign to be concerned with "us", thus, why the 7th House is the home of Libra and concerns partnerships and love.

It ends in Pisces, which is all about transcendence of illusionary boundaries. The proverbial "melting pot". (Although my Economics professor swore we were more like a "tossed salad" with each ingredient maintaining it's own flavor - together, yet separate from the rest).
