Just curious whether people with significant age differences have looked at Chinese astrology, and whether it seems to be correct.

I'm a rat, and my current interest is a dog. We both feel like the things Chinese astrology had to say were pretty right on.

She's only 2.5 years older. Her birthday was the third, and we're not technically together yet. I met her on the internet, and she only lives about an hour's drive away.

In our composite chart it talks about psychic communication, and so far that seems to be true. We have a neat friendship connection in addition to a romantic connection, so it's been neat so far discovering this Gemini with Cancer rising.

Are the rooster and dog highly compatible? Dog and rat are 8 out of 10 on the scale I saw. I, as the rat, am most compatible with the monkey or dragon it says.

Hi AG, that sounds a good thing you have going on in your life, I hope it works out for you, they say dogs are very loyal?

The rooster and dog, I dont think they are meant to be compatible so much as other combinations, but I am gonna check it out, and will let you know. I think the dog goes well with horse and rabbit, but not sure again!!! Get back to you soon, love Sue x

I'm a Fire Dragon (I'm told this is what most Chinese parents would love to have for a kid! ) and my love is a Goat, 2 years+ younger than me. We get along wonderfully, i'd say an 8 or 9, though the Chinese astrology site I looked at, said 7.

I've wondered though, how accurate can it be? It's almost like a generational compatibility tool, like if you were to judge compatibility of people based on just their Saturn/Uranus/Pluto placements (though not exactly, being that each Chinese sign covers a year). I mean, within that year, you have the Fire, Air, Water & Earth signs - what about those? It also doesn't take into consideration the fact that we are complex individuals, that our personality traits, quirks, and reponses are affected by other planetary placements and the environment we grew up in.

All the same, it sure is fun to look at!!

I'm a water dog

My cappy's a wooden rabbit

The Rabbit and the Dog can forge a fine, strong bond between them, based on mutual trust and appreciation. The timid, shy Rabbit is often overrun by more powerful or boisterous Signs, but the Dog has an innate sense of honor and would never take advantage of the Rabbit or its timidity. The Dog tends to have trouble trusting people but the Rabbit will never give it cause for suspicion. Both these Signs are trustworthy and loyal and will protect those they hold dear.

As lovers, these two can share a passionate, intimate union. The Rabbit tends to rely on loved ones for emotional support, without which this Sign can quickly lose its bearings. The Rabbit experiences the world on a largely subjective level and can have trouble sorting out reality from fantasy or irrational fears. The Dog also suffers irrational fears but is strong enough to provide the Rabbit with plenty of comfort and support; in return, the Rabbit's close care and affection will help to calm the Dog's own anxieties. If they live together, their home will be understatedly attractive, subtly artistic and very comfortable. The only thing these two have to watch for is their mutual capacity for pessimism, which sets in when things become too chaotic or confusing. In times of stress they must take care not to feed off one another's anxieties.

As business partners, these two can create a solid and creative business, if not a flashy, glitzy one -- but flash and glitz wouldn't be their style. The Rabbit's creativity can lead to some unusual business innovations and the Dog is just the Sign to listen to the Rabbit's ideas instead of becoming impatient and writing them off as impractical. The Dog makes a great businessperson due to its careful, honorable work ethics, and will most likely have to take over finances and other practical matters when in business with the Rabbit.

The Rabbit and the Dog share a compatibility of eight, on a scale of one to ten. Click here to see other Signs' compatibility ratings! Also, it's important to remember that each year is associated not only with a Chinese Sign but also with one of the Chinese Elements -- Metal, Water, Wood, Fire or Earth. That means there's Metal Rabbits, Water Rabbits, Fire Dogs, Earth Dogs ... Find your Element as well as your Sign and see how your Element affects your Animal nature.

My book here says that relationships between
the Rat and Dog are OK as long as they have
a mutual respect. Not sure about the ideal
marriage or relationship partners for the Rat though.

Generally, the ideal partners for a Dog, in terms of choice, are the Tiger, Rabbit and Horse.

Disastrous partners for the Dog are Dragon (the worst possible choice), Roosters , Goat and Ox.

Both Dragons and Roosters are definitely out of the question from my own experience. Practically ten out of ten Roosters tend to antagonize me. If a Dog marries a Dragon or
has one as a business partner, he/she is asking for trouble. The last I heard, my Dog
classmate was thinking of divorcing his
Dragon wife. I even find it difficult living with
my younger Dragon brother.

I'm a Dog, male, 47.

Taken out of context, your post is really hilarious.. like some dysfunctional fantasy family..
"The last I heard, my Dog

Hee hee.. I am a dragon, my son is a dog. I adore him ( but I guess I am supposed to)
But I mean, I love his personality.

It's common knowledge amongst the
Chinese that Dragons rate the worst
in terms of incompatibility with Dogs.

Ask any Chinese astrologer and he/she
will confirm this.

There's also a Chinese proverb on the
perennial differences between the Dog
and Rooster - something about them
being unable to see eye to eye for life.

It may be common knowledge, that there are vital differences in temperments etc.. but as with any chllenging aspect, it is meant to be overcome..
Of course my son is different from me.
I appreciate it, and no indication anywhere will stop me from feeling the uniqueness is a common ground to jump into love from.
Especially amoung family dynamics.

I wuv my wittle dawg!

As an aside, he collects dragons.... statues, whatever.. I paint dragons for him.

I am a Rooster (earth) who is supposed to get along famously with the Ox and Snake, but the Rabbit is to be avoided.

I was married to a Virgo Snake (16 years older than I am) and that DID NOT work out LOL..but we made wonderful friends and still are to this day. I am also a Sagittarius.

I am now with a Rabbit (Taurus) who happens to be about 5.5 years younger than I am. I think he is a Fire rabbit (with a Rabbit ascendant). I have a Rat ascendant.

We have MUCH better fireworks and we are best friends / lovers...the whole package.

However, I am not sure how it would work if he was the male rooster and I was the female rabbit. Female roosters are 10 less cocky, arrogant and argumentative than the males. Having the Earth element also tends to ground the more neurotic characteristics.

Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system, it detours around the ecliptic by 11.86 years, about every year there's a different sign. Here a table.

Mouse-Capricorn Cow-Aquarius Tiger-Pisces Rabbit-Aries Dragon-Taurus Snake-Gemini Horse-Cancer Goat-Leo Monkey-Virgo Rooster-Libra Dog-Scorpio Pig-Sagittarius

Chinese ancestors called Jupiter "Age Star", "Crown Age". Because traversing the ecliptic do not take exactly 12 years, people with the same chinese sign(those born a few decades ago), jupiter might fall in before or after the sign above. (o^v^o)

I'm loving this site

The male Rabbit and the female Dog are honest, reliable and hardworking to a fault. They both appreciate security above all other considerations in the relationship, and since this is the case, will never let each other down. Together they can preserve their own little world free of malevolent intrusions, and when each is frightened of the unknown the other will immediately leap to reassure the delicate nerves of their intended.

On the rare occasions when the Dog is stirred to violence by an experience especially provoking, the Rabbit will be able to pour his oil over the troubled waters almost before anyone else can notice the altercation. Marriage is almost always a result of this relationship, and that right quickly.

Dog women are incredibly intuitive about people and can read you like a book, so you better be sincere when you sit down next to one. They heartily dislike being told what to do, and that carries into the bedroom too, where they hate nothing more than someone shouting orders like a general. Instead, light-hearted lovemaking is much more their scene, and they'll try to bring fun into the bedroom as well as passion.

How to tame the Dog lady? Don't go in full speed ahead -- too much emotion too soon tires these women, so play it cool at first. In bed, relax and have fun. Suggest new positions and don't get offended if she ends up in a fit of giggles. But whatever you do, don't force them to do anything too much -- Dog women find it hard to relax and are happier being active rather than passive.

The female Dog (again, no name-calling, folks) is a warm, kind and generous soul. You have people falling all over themselves to fall in love with you every day, but your suspicious nature doesn't allow you to reciprocate their attentions easily. Should you meet someone who meets your inflated standards, you may allow yourself to fall in love with that person, slowly, over a long period of time.

Love may make you uneasy -- you require it to encompass everything within itself, and since it may tend to fall short of your impossible expectations, you keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. Your constant anxiety requires constant reassurances from your partner about everything under the sun. Your pessimism may prove to be contagious!

The female Dog (no name-calling, please) is possessed of an extraordinarily grim sense of humor that can enthrall as easily as it repels. You are quite ambitious in your chosen profession, and you have the required talent necessary to go far, if only you can stay the course and not be discouraged by a few early defeats. You need to learn patience -- nothing happens all at once.

You are a good conversationalist, convivial and attractive -- you are a valued guest at parties. You tend to have impossibly high standards in all things, and others who fail to meet the criteria of your personal value system will seem lessened in your eyes, even if their failings are those possessed in equal measure by all human beings.

People born under the Sign of the Dog can be overly shy when making friends or courting someone. If they are interested, they want to make certain you are as well before expressing any interest. They are emotionally sensitive people, who don't take wounds to the heart very easily. As a lover, Dogs are compassionate and supportive, and are always eager to hear about your day at work or the project you just finished.

They share the highs and lows of being in love, defending their partners to anyone who attacks them. Happy Dogs are more likely to want families than Dogs in mediocre relationships. Dogs are simple and lead very easygoing lives. They can be mean with words sometimes and must learn to control their sarcastic sense of humor!

The extra eloquence provided by the Water Element boosts the Dog Sign's habitual garrulousness into the stratosphere. A Water Dog will not stop talking, ever, for anything -- you have the power to incite crowds to mob violence and seduce lovers into bed as soon as you open your mouth.

Your verbal skills will attract to you a grand circle of acquaintances, some of whom will attempt to use you for their own ends -- be sure to maintain your own space! Your inveterate romantic nature combined with your natural heedlessness can also get you into a great many romantic entanglements that will require all of your explanations to unravel sufficiently to allow you to escape, as escape you must, for you cannot stand being on a leash.

I cannot stand being on a leash...yet I like having people on a leash LOL

What site is that TP?

I'm a Water Rat. Sounds like sewer rat to me. My Gemini is a Metal Dog. Of course, they don't do compatibility based on elements as well.
