** Your Starcast for July 22-August 21**
The Sun in fiery Leo could make for a hot few weeks as we all toy with the Lion's theatrical side. But what fun is a seamless, fully planned summer? It's time to embrace the unexpected, as Mercury will be retrograde for the better part of this month. Fear not, though: Mars's movement into earthy Taurus will add a dash of forthright -- if not stubborn! -- resolve to the mix. Venus in Virgo could result in a cautious approach to love; choose wisely, because her move into Libra at the end of the astrological month will leave you ready to charm! Keep reading for the complete lowdown on how the cast of planetary characters will shape this imaginative and impulsive month.
July 22: Sun into Leo
There's quite a mixed bag of energies circulating in the heavens. For starters, Mercury will turn retrograde today, which will slow everything down for the next three weeks. But just a few hours earlier, the Sun enters Leo, putting a fiery planet in a fiery sign. Needless to say, all that fire won't help you do anything slowly -- and there lies the rub. Do you give in to the urge to act on every impulse in very quick, dramatic fashion for the Sun's four-week passage through Leo? Or do you take the hint from Mercury retrograde and slow down long enough to do some internal inventory? No one can make that or any other decision for you, but at least now you'll have the choice and the time to decide for yourself -- if you want to.
July 22: Mercury stationing retrograde
Yesterday's full Moon may have left you feeling forced into making a sudden decision -- the kind that leaves a lot of loose ends. Much as you might like to, however, you won't be able to tie things up -- not just yet. In fact, it may take quite a bit of time before you can make much progress. Mercury will turn retrograde today, an astrological event that muddies the waters of thought for at least three weeks. Don't be impatient, and try not to be frustrated. The universe has given you a reprieve -- the chance to think things over until you're absolutely sure you can make a decision.
July 22: Venus into Virgo
Loving Venus will tiptoe into tasteful, discreet, cautious Virgo this evening, adding one more ingredient to the strikingly different medley of astrological energies currently on duty. With the Sun just starting a trip through fiery, determined Leo and Mercury just beginning a retrograde journey, you can expect quite an unusual day -- and quite an unusual weekend, for that matter. Venus in Virgo is earthy, practical and nothing if not prudent, especially when it comes to love and money. With a sky full of fire, however, she'll have her work cut out for her -- and if you're trying to be discreet, sensible or responsible, you will too. Only one thing is certain: For the duration of this three-week trip, Venus will inspire us all to be extremely particular about who and what we love, and how we love it. That's with the exception of today, of course. For now, anything is possible. Anything at all.
July 28: Mars into Taurus
Things have gradually calmed down a bit since last weekend -- which couldn't have happened soon enough. The heavens have finally come to an agreement about one particular subject: relationships. Keeping them going without a hitch while Mercury is retrograde may be tough -- and seemingly impossible at times -- but a potent planetary ally will arrive today to make staying on any track a lot easier. Mars, the planet of action, will trudge off into Taurus, a determinedly disciplined sign. This combination brings out nothing but the most honest, forthright and responsible in us all. It will also uncover any previously hidden stubborn streaks. Stay on the straight and narrow, but if an objective loved one advises you to let go of a current plan, consider it -- no matter how attached you are to the outcome.
July 31: Venus opposite Uranus, Mars square Saturn
We'll encounter a strange brew of energies today, as lovely Venus encounters bizarre Uranus, and impulsive Mars squares off with sobering Saturn. The combination of Venus and Uranus just about always creates an itch, and itches want to be scratched. Simply put, you're restless, even irritable. The romantic status quo is just not very exciting today, and the temptation to try something new will be powerful. But any attempts to actually step out of line will promptly meet with a resounding whack upside your head: Saturn doesn't think so! You've got commitments, after all, and they will still be here tomorrow when this weird mood has passed.
August 4: New Moon in Leo
Creativity is Leo's primary goal in life, its absolute, hands-down specialty. So now that the Moon is in this fiery, amazingly inspired sign, we can all expect to be especially confident and imaginative -- in all departments. Of course, since romance is also at the very top of Leo's list, why not celebrate by creatively spoiling your sweetheart? Whether it's an elegant evening out, complete with limo service, or a picnic lunch you packed yourself, they'll appreciate the gesture, and you'll get a serious kick out of making them happy. Go for it!
This new Moon will most affect Leos born August 4-9.
August 5: Mercury retrograde sextile Jupiter
Thoughtful Mercury, the ruler of all things cerebral, has been retrograde since July 22, causing all of us to think about the past. Since Mercury has been in romantic Leo for the duration of the trip, one of the things you may have considered probably concerns someone you've often wished you got to know better. If you're not spoken for at the moment, why not do a little detective work? Try to find them, and once you do, you can see if there's still a 'there' there!
August 6: Sun sextile Jupiter
The Sun's month in Leo has already been quite sociable, but this looks like a weekend you won't soon forget. The Sun in Leo, bringer of all things warm, romantic and creative, is about to meet up in a stimulating sextile with outgoing, benevolent Jupiter -- and this aspect absolutely inspires both planets to be the best that they can be. That in itself is plenty of reason for parties and undoubtedly wonderful social gatherings, but with Jupiter, the mighty king of the gods, in sociable, friendly Libra, it's a given that all relationship matters will go well. If there's an apology to extend (or accept) or a meeting you'd love to arrange, there's just no time like the present.
August 10: Venus square Pluto
When Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, is in meticulous Virgo, she's in the mood for perfection, and she inspires us all to feel the same. Venus has jurisdiction over who and what we love, from possessions to paychecks to sweethearts. And when she meets up with focused, sometimes obsessive Pluto, that love of perfection often becomes quite important, so much so that it's easy to lose sight of the forest if a few trees aren't properly trimmed. Don't let a petty issue cause a major rift. If you need to, put some distance between you and the object of irritation -- just until you have a bit more perspective.
August 13: Mercury retrograde square Mars
Mercury is in charge of conversation, and when he's in Leo, we're all more likely to say every word with a flourish and an eye toward the dramatic. Put this theatrical influence in a square (the most stressful aspect of all) with aggressive Mars, and you've got one of two things: a great big argument or a great big declaration of love. Then again, depending on your innate disposition, you might also end up with both. One word of caution: Beware stubbornness! Two planets in fixed signs squaring each other is a recipe for obstinacy, but some mental yoga should help you avoid this potential pitfall.
August 15: Mercury turns direct
After three interminably long weeks of moving in reverse, making all things concerning communication and travel as difficult as they could possibly be and then some, Mercury is about to turn direct -- and not a moment too soon. Of course, you won't see evidence of this right away; before Mercury can begin to move direct, there's a period of complete and total motionlessness, which often feels more frustrating than the entire retrograde period itself. In other words, if you absolutely can't get anything done today, don't let it get to you. Accept it and move on. Tomorrow will definitely be better. Promise.
August 16: Venus into Libra
Venus loves love, and Libra is the sign that's most suited to making a loved one know they're special. It's a match that's literally made in heaven, and it's going to happen today. For the next month, the goddess of love will sidle seductively through Libra, endowing us all with charm, appeal and a way of simply being ourselves that will prove irresistible. Put together a list of who you're going to share it with and get busy.
August 19: Full Moon in Aquarius
The power of the full Moon is nothing to sneeze at. Think of the poetry and love songs it's inspired, not to mention the many memorable evenings you've experienced courtesy of its influence. Well, you'd better make room in your scrapbook of memories for a couple more, because both tonight and tomorrow night will bring the stuff that warm encounters and fond reminiscences are made of. Oh, and since this full Moon will occur in startling Aquarius, don't be surprised if it all happens under most unusual circumstances -- which, of course, will make even better stories for the grandkids.
This full Moon will most affect Leos/Virgos born August 18-22 and Aquarians/Pisces born February 13-18.
Enjoy the Sun's transit of Leo!
