Ever fantasize about ditching your cell phone for a time-out from the grind? Well you're in luck, because on July 22, at 11pm EST, Mercury turns retrograde. Sure, 'lucky' isn't this event's most common descriptor -- but the power to use the next three weeks to regroup rests squarely in your hands.

Mercury turns retrograde about three times a year, creating a planetary optical illusion -- its movement, relative to Earth's, seems to stop and then move backward. As a result, the messenger planet's famous wings are temporarily clipped. Let's not sugarcoat it: This isn't the time to sign anything important, kick off a new relationship or expect a last-minute birthday card to make it to Aunt Sue. Until Mercury turns direct (just before midnight EST on August 15), its signature domains, communication and travel, will be riddled with annoyances. (Conserve your patience, because Mercury's concentrated energy can be particularly difficult around the time it turns direct. Things will settle down completely by August 30, when the planet passes its pre-retrograde position.)

So what is Mercury retrograde good for? When in doubt, refer to the 'RE' rule; those two letters are the key to getting the most from this admittedly tricky period. Retreat from the frenetic nature of modern communication. Repair and reconfirm (reservations or messages, that is). Left things unresolved with an ex? Resolve them! Writing that groundbreaking novel? Reedit it! Embrace this forced reprieve from life's hectic pace to tend to anything you've neglected.
'Retreat' isn't synonymous with 'isolation.'

This retrograde occurs with Mercury in Leo; not surprisingly, the Lion's known for pride, confidence and creativity -- areas you'll want to keep an eye on now. Don't abandon details in favor of big-picture schemes, and keep bravado in check before opening your mouth! (If Leo's prominent in your chart -- particularly as your Sun, Moon or rising sign -- be doubly careful.) On the other hand, retrograde Mercury in Leo can facilitate the closer examination of recent events. Revisit the details of any experience that you've accepted unthinkingly, and you just might gain a new understanding of how to handle it.

May the next few weeks bring you all the introspection you crave!

thanks!
I don't know what's up with me lately but I'm excited about this, just like I was about Saturn. I'm looking forward to some commotion.

Thanks for the 'blurb' on Mercury Zala!! I kinda enjoy retreating and revisiting things I have to reedit and repair

Pidaua I was thinking about cutting my hair for the past two days...yesterday was a full moon right? When is the best time according to the phases of the moon to cut your hair if you want it to grow back quick?

I think its during a new moon or waxing, as the moon grows bigger and expands so does your hair. I don't know about a full moon, since the moon will be diminishing in size from today on. Although, the day before and after the full moon are still considered to be a full moon. The time is usually reserved as bringing fruit to whatever was started on the new moon/waxing phases.

Awww Mercury Rx!!! Man, I just got called for an interview for next week. I'm so confused now, as to wheter I even want the job anymore. I've been working retail to put myself through school for the last 2 years, and was getting depressed caz I saw it as just a way to meet ends. Yesterday, my Manager informed me that there are many possibilities in the company for my area of study. So now, my whole perspective has changed, and I think I want to stay on until I graduate and move up to my dream job. I've also read that its bad news to start a new job during a Mercury Rx, although I do have it Rx in my natal. ANyone heard of that????

Ahhh thanks Planet Soul, that makes sense!! I'll just have to wait till the new moon because I'm cutting alot of inches off, and want it to grow back quickly just in case I dont' end up liking it.

Hmmm you know what Merc retro means...yeah starting anything new at this time isn't exactly favoured. Do what you feel is best for your long term goals. Would a this retro affect you even more if you have it in your natal??

I really try to avoid buying anything electronic or any appliances--let alone a car!!!--when Mercury is retrograde. (That won't be difficult during this transit since I'm broke.) I think this will be a good time to tackle cleaning out Fibber McGee's closet! (For those who don't know what that means--everything just gets thrown in there then when you get something out it all comes tumbling down.)

You're welcome DD,

Yup, changing one's hair style is a BIG change. However, change is good especially when it comes to trying out new looks. I had colored my hair jet black for two years, but then tired of it. Ahhh, it took forever to grow out and get back to my natural dark brown. Now, I'm thinking of coloring it a carmel color and getting it sleek. I wish I knew how to use one of those straight iron things lol.

I'm not sure how a Rx effects you if you have it in your natal. Maybe the effect is lessened? I'm very nervous about starting a new job at this time, and am crossing my fingers to make the best decision. I'll go to my interview and see what kind of vibe I get, and take it form there.

I was all set to go somewhere today and couldn't find my keys. I always keep my keys in the same place. Anyway, I had a rather extreme reaction and it wrecked my day. I had myself all prepared for this meeting. I turned my place upside down looking--they still haven't turned up! Then it was kind of one thing after another today. Mercury going retrograde is conjunct my Pluto....guess it pulled up all my subconcious uglies.
