Topic: How to deal with Internet Trolls ?

This is from another forum where Internet trolls are common. I think it's important to post here.The forum seems to attract a lot of 'undesirables' and persistent troll activity where the sole purpose of a nusiance poster is to get a rise out of people and make them IRRITATED and respond in indignation to a troll post. The only thing trolls want from you is ATTENTION i.e. that you take notice of them, and the way you deal with them is to IGNORE what they post or write. If you dont respond, you take the wind out of their sails and all they do is end up talking to themselves or go elsewhere. here is more info on dealing with nuisance posts, trolls and foul language etc.

Hi , Zala Thanks ! for link and it was really wonderful reading I am sure it should help some of us.It's common to face this and I think some people should grow up and stop arguing when they know discussion isn't going anywhere.

That's an interesting article. I moderate a fairly big forum, because it's so big we have problems with trolls and spammers every now and then. I just ban them straight away usually, no point waiting around for them to become "better" posters.IP: Logged |

freebird,That is because first and foremost LindaLand is about free speech. Randall is a great moderator and bans when the person becomes too offensive (usually if they get ugly sexually or racist...etc..) But free speech, arguing, sending beams of love and light... whatever the person does as long as it doesn't cross the line is encouraged. One persons crude is another persons speech pattern. The line has to be drawn though when the same person gets angry at anyone and resorts to calling them a "&*#^&*#^ #*(@#$^" get it? This isn't a business forum or even a strictly astro forum. Friendships are encouraged and people don't always agree. We can't police everyone or ban someone just because they curse or offend someone puritanical view point. I say that because sometimes people get on my case since I usually discourage curse words or calling people names based on race, religion or geographical location. But, I will complain about people writing in short-hand (if you notice no matter how many times they ask for help, I am not usually one to respond because I hate the short hand stuff SO MUCH) LOL.... I also complain about too much of the "please look at my chart and tell me when I will meet prince charming". I let other's take those questions / posts. I am sorry that people get hurt and other's are trolls that enjoy starting these fires. Stick around..it gets better -trust me - this is just another of those cycles. IP: Logged |

Pidua : I really don't know how things work here so that's the reason I said that things are different.I am sure the one who is in charge are doing what they have to and I am not complaining about that. quote:
