Hi,
I was recently advised to have a reading/chart done for Vedic astrology. I'm more familiar with the western style and I'm not sure what the benefits for differences would be with this type of astrology. I'm looking for better ideas about a life direction and though perhaps Vedic might offer new insight.

One friend suggested sidereal because supposedly western is off by many degrees and this would totally change my sun sign from Cancer to Geminii. Personally, I don't think I'm a Geminii and this friend keeps insisting that I am (probably because sidereal astrology makes her a Cancer though I think she is still a showy Leo )

Anyway, are there any vedic or Indian astrologers out there that can better advise me?

What are your views about , Vedic / sidereal and western astrology? Do you think Western is as inaccurate as some say?

I've been studying western for many years now and can guess many individual's sun signs which would seem to make western pretty accurate.

No way am I a expert on Sidereal or Vedic astrology but I've learned a few things. Sidereal/Vedic astrology takes into account the planets actual position in the consellations, based on the fixed stars. If you were to cast a chart for now, you can go outside and actually see where the planets are. In Tropical astrology, all the planets are some odd 23 degrees off due to the equinox. Signs have different interpretations then the Tropical meanings -Cancers in sidereal astrology are more showy, since the moon indicates the public and dealings with people, Leos are more self-contained, or "masters of one," more kingly. A link I found that has some definitions of the signs and some lessons on Sidereal astrology - http://www.astrologyworldonline.com/free.html
At the bottom of the page, where you download the zipped file for Sidereal astrology lessons. Once you have them downloaded and unzipped, you can open the files with wordpad, notepad, or the text reading file that comes with it. They don't open like normal text files. Awfully confusing for someone who doesn't know computers.

And this link - http://www.astrogyan.com/myhoroscope/page_id-4
You have to register, but registration's free. It gives you a little idea what Vedic astrology's about. The daily predictions are pretty acurate.

Hope this helps

Kat,

I would suggest posting your question on a Vedic-specific site. Most people on this site are probably followers of Western astrology.

Urging question relocation,

Tim

I think that question has been asked a couple of times on here before. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two chart styles, but the charts themselves are often a bit different. Maybe since interpretations are done differently for Vedic and Western charts, it's just a bit like two different cross-sections of the same personality or something... hmm... sorry, wish I were more useful on this topic =/

I think Vedic astrology is very intriguing and probably more accurate for me. I can't seem to find sufficient material written in English though :-/ There are a number of Indian websites, but the level of information is pretty scant. :-/

Ah well.

Kat, my rising sign in Vedic astrology is Gemini (Mithuna). The Moon is in Capricorn

According to my vedic chart, my rising sign in libra and not scorpio. The only difference between my vedic and western charts is that in the western chart, everything is moved ahead by one sign. All the planetary placements are the same though. Is this the same for yours, Aphrodite?

The way I think of it is that the two systems observe a person's psyche from two different perspectives, and maybe a systhesis of the two gives one a more balanced view of their astrological make-up.

Insight, anyone?

Thanks all,
I'll keep looking. Hopefully I'll find something that's not to pricey.

Vedic just does NOT resonate with me, no matter how many sources I try to get into.
