How do you read a "progressions" chart and what exactly is it. How is is different from a Transits chart? For example, I just plugged in the date for my upcoming medical tests and appointment and plugged in "progressions." So what am I looking at. And do I compare it to my natal? Thanks for any info ... IP: Logged |

a progressed chart starts at the time you were born (natal chart) but each day (or days) the planets move and progress up to the date you've chosen. i.e. i was born with a 10*libra sun. right around my b.day (oct 2nd, coming up, yay!) my progressed sun will be 9*scorpio because the sun 'moves' about a degree a year. you can look at this kind of chart as an over lay of energy to yer birth chart. they should really call it a progressed NATAL chart.with transit charts you're usually looking at your own natal chart in the middle with the transits (where the planets are in the sky right now) on the outer wheel. this way you can see where the transiting (moving) planets are located in regard to your (stationary) natal chart. for your medical tests i think it would be better to look at a transits chart using the date of your tests so that you'll see where the transiting planets will be those days in regard to your natal placements. then see what is conjunct, opposed, and/or square for anything that might be tough. a progressed chart used in this matter /might/ (not sure) show you where or why certain physical symptoms manifest at this time in your life (as opposed to being born with). energy follows thought. all matter is just really dense energy. planetary aspects can cause or charge a certain energy within an individual. that help any? i'm never sure if i'm helping or out in left field cuz my thinking is usually so abstract!! ------------------ ~Libra Sun / 29* Gemini Rising / Aquarius Moon~ IP: Logged |

Progression is how your natal planets have progressed to today. Your natal chart is just a snapshot of the time of your birth, but the planets continue to move, so your progressed chart is where the planets are currently.I haven't gotten into transits yet, but I believe a transit chart shows both your natal positions as well as where the planets currently are. It shows both so you can see what aspects may be going on. I could be wrong about this, though. IP: Logged |

The most common method of progressing a chart is using the "year for a day" method. I was born July 18, 1979 so using the "year for a day" method I would calculate the chart for 26 days (because I am 26 years old) after my birth. As you can imagine, not much will have changed in 26 days which is why you only look at the fast moving planets when checking out progressions. You would look at the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus etc... Planets like Saturn don't budge so that don't play as big of a role in progressions. As far as why the "day for a year" method is used, don't ask me cause I have no idea, but if you use it (as many people do) remember that the moon is considered to be one of the most (if not the most) important planet in progressions. GOOD LUCK! IP: Logged |

Not luck, but a brain like a super computer is needed with this, beebuddy... It gets real confusing. You have the natal planets, the progressed planets, and in order for all of this to get activated, the transits -- holy crap! Who can keep all this straight?? And if you compare all this to another person's natal, progressed, and transits -- well, you are in for a major headache, I would say... :-(Are there any sites who deal with this kind of synthesis? Isn't it true that without the transits nothing happens with the progressions? And there are btw. also secondary progressions... IP: Logged |

Loggerhead,Maybe we should start a "book reccomendation" thread that people could post on about which books cover this sort of stuff. IP: Logged |

I wouldn't say that 'nothing' happens, but the things that are more significant in your life happen when there are more transit/progressed/solar arc aspects going at the same time. Because progressed aspects are a long term thing (lasting the whole year), they often need another trigger to make something more important happen. But the same thing can be said of the faster transits. IP: Logged |
