One of my favorite writers...Doesn't he just seem so typically Scorpionic...his Saturn is also in Scorp though... You can pick out all of the characteristics of his Sun, Moon & ASC (Aqua, Pisces, Scorp), but he just has this Scorpish shadow...

I was examining his chart, and thinking about it because I also have my Saturn & ASC in the same sign.

But anyways, any comments on Poe anyone would like to post?

I once saw a story about him. They were tyring to contact his spirit.

Anyways. They were tlaking about how he loved his wife so much. She was younger than him.

She died I forgot how and he was very saddened.

He wanted to be buried next to her.

How sweet.

Ok, so I got canceled from work, so now I'm bored and the moon's in Virgo. I need something to do. Sorry if this seems rambling, cos it is....

His chart (which gives a different ASC):
http://www.khaldea.com/charts/edgarallenpoe.shtml

I'm going which this chart cos that site's charts are usually very well researched.

So here we go:

Stellium in Pisces in the first: this domiantes his personal houses (the rest of which are empty). This is a hugely powerful stellium. Vensu and moon together make it very creative, and perhaps feminine in some qualities. Pluto give the stellium a power boost, and inclinations toward maleficity - it's almost like between Pluto's power and being inthe 1st, this is a stellium that would be extremely unstable, volatile and difficult to "own." That exact Pluto-moon conjucntion indicates ego and self-esteem issue, and possibly mental illness and self destructive behavior relating to those problems. There's a strong desire to withdraw and be reclusive. On a positive side, it can inclinates someone who is very self-sufficent, very aware of his environement and of other people, as well as profoundly spiritual, even mystical or psychic, living almost a purely intuitive existence. Both the good and bad side of this I can see in Poe.

Jupiter implies luck or fortune BUT note this stellium is trined by a devilish Scoprio Uranus. Uranus will just turn Jupiter's good fortune on it's head. Poe did have very erratic luck.

Uranus here is very powerful, and most likely leanign towardsthe malefic - it's a fixed singleton and in a house where it can do heavy damage. It's also conjunct teh NN, which suggests fatedness to Uranus' infleunce, for better or worse. Uranus' influence on the rest of the stellium suggests he would have been extremely eccentic and emotionally/mentally unstable. His emotions would have been very intense - again, more possiblity for mental illness. Uranus in the 8th suggests drug use, specifically use of drugs for creative, ritualistic or spiritual purposes, or as a form of self-medication (which usually leads to addiction). All of the above seem to apply to Poe as well.

(Battle of Evermore: note the Pluto conjunct moon, trining 8th house Uranus in Scorpio - there's your "Scorpish shadow" right there. It's like the Pisces stellium has a Scorpio "core" to it or something. Very interesting.)

There's two other singeltons in his chart, besides the Uranus one. Not surprising, though, Uranus appears to be the domiante one - remember Urnaus is often associated with genius and invention, both which apply to Poe. Also, as I noted in my comments about visual artists, Uranus singleton alone tends to show up in chart fo artist who defy the status quo, but not necessarily in a public or attention-seeking way. They seem to not be the one who want to change the world, only to answer to their own aritstic voice. Again, Poe could be said to be liek that.

The other two:

Mars - only air planet. Also in the 8th, which is a potentially malefic placement for a supped up Mars. This may indicate a fragile but intense, even "burning" ego haunted by powerful phobias. Fear becomes a main motivation for this ego, replacing the typical aggression of Mars. Mars quincunxes Jupiter, and that's a tough aspect. Problems with anger and a "talent" for self-sabotage. I would suspect this is worse when Mars is a singleton.

Saturn and Neptune - fire singelton by conjunction. Int eh 10th, obviously this had impact of his career, ambitions and public life. This isn't very transparent to me - I'm not too sure how to read that. I suspect though that Neptune + Saturn may have given Poe both a strong sense of purspose or calling as well as a profound feeligns of alienation and fears about failure and rejection. Saturn singletons can be "angry" without being malefic, but if they are not properly expressed, they lead to self-destructive habits and depression. Neptune singletons tend to be powerfully spiritual, giving the native a "third eye" or mytical vision, but also deep, aching spiritual restlessness and alienation. Both this planets square his Pisces moon - ouch.

I would be interesting to researching his asteriods and harmonic charts, btu that'll have to wait. I think I've said enogh for now. this is a very POWERFUL chart - you don't see charts like this very often, even among the great creative minds of history. It seems so powerful to me that I am almost heartbroken - it seems almost too much for one man to bear. From what I know of Poe, that may have very well been the case. I can recall a few charts that have made me feel like that - Kurt Cobain's chart is another one, and it seems he was int eh same astrological dilemma.

Yea Poe was a great writer. As a person I have my doubts about his character. I'm studying him in my Literature class. What I've learned so far was a disappointment because it so happens he was Pro Slavery and against the woman's education movement. I just can't think of him the same way now...
But with that info he definately must have had a masochistic Scorpio influence.

scorpbaby - You also have to remember that, however brilliant he was, he was also a person of a certain time and place.
You don't know how you would be if you had been born and raised as he had been. It's easy to judge what we do not know.

I named my cat after him

I also signed my cat up for one of those mail clubs for cds and he still gets the creditors after him!! We used to get very nasty letters about it and then have to sit him down to say, "Bad Cat!!" (which is a funny book, by the way)

Anyways, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't his younger wife also his cousin????
