I have a friend that told me she is on all kinds of meds for depression, compulsive disorders and anxiety. Like Zoloft,Xanex and Prozac. I was like WOW! This has altered her personality.. she has a who cares attiude now... blows people off. I worry because she also drinks and does other street drugs. She is very inconsiderate.
Would you say these types of drugs affect the moon sign.. the emotional? The sun sign?
The rising... If i didn't already know her sun/moon etc.. I would be way off course in an initial guess... Any thoughts? It seems alot of people are on these meds... Anything in someone's chart to make them more apt to have these problems?

First off, don't blame the rx antidepresants alone for her persoanlity change. They can effect a person's personality, but they shouldn't drastically. It should only effect mood. Persoanlity changes suggest something very serious - like substance abuse. And if she's mixing alcohol and street drugs with rx's, well, that's substance abuse, pure and simple. Moreover, mixing these anti-depressants with alcohol and other drugs to very dangerous and potentially life-threatening.

Second off, why is she on Zoloft AND Prozac? They're both SSRIs, and she shouldn't be on both at the same time, unless she's acquiring them through illegal means and self-medicating. Xanax is a very useful anti-anxiety med, but is often abused too.

Understand that substance abuse is a symptom of a much more profound illness, and her changes in her persoanlity are not attributable to the drugs alone. Emotionally and mentally she is not well, and that's what is changing her personality. The drug use is simply a means of coping with her underlying problem - a very self-destrtuctive and counterproductive means of coping, unfortunately.

As for Sun and moon sign, well, yes there are indicators in the chart of substance abuse and depression, and they are not exclusive to the Sun and moon sign. For example, I have Venus in Gem conjunct Saturn in Tau - that'sa pretty big indicator fo depression, and I've struggled with severe depression since I was 8. I also have Neptune oppo Saturn and Jupiter oppo Saturn - again more depression indicators. I also have a Pisces moon oppo Pluto - this is both an indicator of depression/mental illness as weel ass substance abuse (I abused drugs as a teen).

I personally have noticed that Saturn, Neptune and Pluto, and their respective signs Capricorn, Pisces and Scorpio, regularly play into aspects that indicate depression. Saturn and Capricorn are associated further with repressed anger, parental abuse or neglect, self-esteen issues and feeligns of inadequency or worthlessness. Neptune and Pisces are also associated with substance abuse/addiction, mental illness, hallunciations, delusions, emotional abuse, and feelings of not belonging/being "lost." Pluto and Scoprio are associated with phobias, psychological and sexual abuse, neuroses, psychosis, and addictions.

In addition, anxiety is often assocaited with Mercury or the moon, and their representive signs Gemini (Mercury), Virgo (Mercury) and Cancer. Symptoms of anxiety associated with these signs and planets can include irrationality, paranoia, mental confusion, implusive/compulsive behaviors (OCD), panic attacks, emotional instablity/erratic moods, inapprorpraite emotional responses (or lack of emotional response), nervous fatigue/breakdowns, and depression with ot with out manic episodes (bipolar). As noted, people with vulnerable Mercury and/or moon placements are especially suspectible to anxiety-related or anxiety-triggered disorders, like OCD and bipolar disorder, but also generalized anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Thank you all...

I have known this woman (44) for about 15 years. She moved away for a couple years and now she is back.
She was not on the rx's before she moved...
She is a Scorpio and was a little anal in ways but something must have happened to trigger her dpression. I think she started on the prozac and was switched to the Zoloft for libido reasons. This alone would cause depression in my estimation. It just seems to compound itself. You take one thing for this and something else to help with this side-effect and so on until one day your on 6 or seven things.
She has always been a drinker.. then i found out she has been dabbling in cocaine.
It is very scary.... she is very scary...

As her friend, i've tried to talk to her about the substance abuse and she gets very angry... probably pretty classic....I'm afraid she will go off the edge.
Her personality is different.. She was never inconsiderate before. She is now that way on purpose. I mean she thinks its funny to make plans and then just go into blackout mode... turns off her phone ect...
It seems like all the OCD issues she had before are still there just to the other extreme... She is very vengeful, erratic and is burning bridges... I just see it all ending badly... Thank you for your comments... I did not mean to offend anyone as i am sure these rx's do a lot of good overall.

I was taking zoloft for a long time. I assumed it was working because I knew it was doing "something" to me. The changes I felt were so subtle and hard to describe that it took me more than a year to realize that this medication was numbing me emotionally. I may not have felt depressed, but that was because I couldn't feel anything at all. It was making things worse, not better.
I went off of it a few months ago, with my doctor's permission, and once it was out of my system I could feel things and care about things again.
I'm taking strattera alone now, which is prescribed for ADHD, but it's the best thing I've found to treat my depression.
I hope your friend finds something that works for her, not necessarily medication.

the alcohol is a rage stimulant right there, so it's counterproductive to the anti depressant. She gets numb and so uses the drinking to feel things again, wonder how this started?

Will take therapy for sure.
Drinking is hard for Scorpios, they tend to like it a lot-I don't know why since I can't tell you what another person feels. Possible reasons for her depression are feeling like an outsider, unloved, not needed, not included, or pushed and shoved around. Scorpios tend to feel used.

A normal social life involving people she respects is so important, so you are right blowing people off is not good for her emotional health. Eventually she will have to mix and mingle again, with a Cancer? or possibly an Aquarius.

Antidepressants don't work that great unless they are part of a program.

As for her chart, I wonder if your friend would be up for a reading? would she listen?

Lemingtyne- Thanks! Numb is what i'd call it. I will mention the Strattera.

Natasha...
I can't imagine what she's feeling right now.
Here is my take... Her hubby is a pharmacist... he is also depressed.... they probably depress each other.... She told me there is no sex in their marriage.. He has no desire...probably the rx's again. They are good at the business of being married.. that about it.
They have both gained a lot of weight over the past 10 years.
I think she is having little affairs...thus the cocaine use because of the group she is associating with.... Talking about this with you all has helped me to put things together...
I don't know about a reading... hasn't been real receptive when i've mentioned it before. I will approach her again... it can't hurt at this point. I'll let you know or at least try to come up with a birthtime.
Thanks again!!!

Long term cocaine abuse warps peoples perspectives... if shes been doing all of this with perscription meds that could do no end of damage.

Councelling is better alternative to meds... is she getting any councelling.

Hmmmmmm A thread I can relate having been on antidepressants for a total of 4 months in my depression that lasted almost a decade.

They put me on Prozac and it put me to sleep. They put me on Effexor and it made me sick. They put me on Mannerex and it did nothing. Finally I had to shut the world out and go within to get to know myself better. During my depression I was very easily influenced by those around me. I had to shut out the influences. I am proud to say that I made it through most of my depression without meds.

i find today that doctors are all too pill happy and will really push the pills on ya. I don't like meds and will take them if I absolutely have to take them - ie UTI. Besides I have a 6th house neppy and can be quite sensitive to what goes in my body. Last year I went the Narutropathic route and it is better for me.

I have zero alcohol and drugs problems. I had a chance to try drugs before and turned down the chance. I don't like having hangovers so I hardly drink...and if I do it's 2 drinks..

GN,

You hit it! but many great things said.

Stargazer,

If your friend is Chem-dep She alone holds the key to her recovery. No one could tell me anything when I spiraled out of control. Of course just being there is invaluable. Just pray or send light. She is, after all, the sign of the Phoenix.

Best wishes to you both.

PS- You take care of you.

I thought I'd throw a comment in. I've been on different anti-depressants for about a year now, I'm on Effexor XR right now. I think I've changed quite a bit since starting therapy [I've been going to counselling once a week for a year now too]. I'm more carefree, lighthearted and a little more out-going. But I also know that it's still a fight. It's a rollercoaster because even with anti-depressants, I'll fall back into deep depression periods where I become suicidal again. I almost wonder if that's why she started drinking [it sure sounds appealing to me].
Does she go to a psychiatrist/psychologist or counsellor?
