oddball ~Your chart ruler is the planet that rules the sign on your Ascendant. If you have Aries rising, your chart ruler would be Mars -- you would look to the house and sign placement of Mars, and aspects to it. Here's a quickie link: http://www.cafeastrology.com/articles/sign-rulerships.html As an example, my chart ruler is the Sun because I have Leo rising. My Sun is in Libra in the 3rd house -- With the Sun's energy in the Third House your personality drive is directed mainly into intellectual pursuits and educational progress. Travel and communication of all kinds will appeal. This position requires that you to expend much energy in understanding and adapting to your immediate environment. Friends, neighbours, co-workers, brothers and sisters will play an important role in your life. May I ask...what role does the ruler of a chart play in synastry ? Let's say A's ruler is jupiter(in scorpio) and B's is moon(in scorpio) . This means these planets are conjunct and for each party it is their ruler. Is that considered to be important ? I've also heard about the sun ruler. Is this important in synastry ? Thank you ! The info was pretty general, like almost everything out there on the net for this topic...I was wondering more along the lines of what does the chart ruler do to influence the main focus of your life, your predispositions and abilities...Chart ruler = moon. Moon in aquarius, in the in 8th house. I was wondering how the dispositorship would play out, there is not much specific information on dispositorship and the chart ruler on the net, although these seem important. IP: Logged |

moon is within 1 degree of the ninth house, also in aquarius, so I don't know whether I would interpret it as being in the 8th house or ninth house.IP: Logged |

dear oddball, well, there are chart rulers and chart rulers... it isn't so automatic, it depends on aspects and positioning. an angular chart ruler, for example, will really show in the person's make-up, whereas one buried in the 12th house won't unless it's conjunct the sun or moon for instance. the chart ruler in my experience is always extra sensitive to transits and progressions, and any aspects that affect it will often manifest in real world terms, rather than emotionally or spiritually. the chart ruler of the secondary progressed chart, on the other hand, is always extremely important, as its positioning tells a tale of what is the background coloring for current experience. the chart ruler is an intensified growth point -- its placement shows where we need to grow, and points to ways our ideas of ourselves will change over the years. transits and progressions to it will point to deep shifts and upheavals which will directly effect your idea of who you are--more so than if it did not rule the ASC. my chart ruler is in aquarius as well (venus is my chart ruler). i identify strongly with the sign of aquarius when it comes to my relationships and my artistic expression. i speculate you would identify strongly with aquarius when it comes to your emotions. for the chart ruler in the eighth house, you may actually be most comfortable in working with other's money or resources. sexuality may also be a defining trait for you. hope that helps. chrissy

hi sweet_face ~ this degree is still sagi so your chart ruler is indeed jupiter. just jupiter! i believe we incarnated at whatever specific time so that we would get this 'one last hurrah' if you will, from this karmic degree. having that 1* that's different on your 1st house cusp sure does make for a neat mixture! ------------------ ~Libra Sun / 29* Gemini Rising / Aquarius Moon~ IP: Logged |
