Hello all~

Well, as you can gather, my question is when people aren't what they seem (when you look at their charts). To help me understand, I'd like to use some famous people as examples, because you guys probably haven't met my friend, and his chart really surprised me when I found out his birthdate and I "drew" his chart up on astrodienst. (It also applies to my mother, but that's another story!)

A couple of weeks ago, I read in the paper that it was Owen Wilson's birthday. He's a Scorpio. He doesn't seem like a Scorpio to me, so I ran his birthdate on astrodienst, and not only does he have Scorpio Sun, but also Neptune, Mercury and Moon. He comes across as a stoner surfer dude, and he admits he's lazy and pretty easy going in interviews. Co-stars also confirm this. So the multitude of Scorpio in his chart kind of surprised me-- I would have thought Gemini or maybe Pisces. Could someone's Ascendant, or house placement make a person seem so different than what/who they really are? In other words, the public's perception of them and who they feel like they are deep inside?

I mean, you say Johnny Depp, and I can totally see Gemini; Tom Hanks is a Cancer, and I can see that. Russell Crowe-- Aries. Magic Johnson's nickname was "Showtime", and he's a Leo.

I know there is so much more to astrology than sun signs. It has to do with aspects, and house placement etc.. but I never would have said "Scorpio" after reading some articles or watching him on Jay Leno for Owen Wilson.

It's these instances that I tend to get lost in interpreting charts to understand my friends. Like my friend in the first paragraph. He has Sun and Venus and Mercury in Scorpio, and yet, to me he is total Libra. That's what he projects to me. There is no real intensity to him. He doesn't hold grudges. He's pretty easy going. And he is very into his looks-- he's a model. Yet he has very little Libra in his chart-- just generational Saturn. His moon is in Gemini and he has Capricorn rising. He's pretty conservative, so I can see that, and he has phenomenal bone structure. I can usually spot Scorpios. They make themselves well known to me. So that's why I'm lost on my interpretation.

Could anyone take a stab at explaining it to me, so it would make sense?

Any feedback is much appreciated

Hmmm.... well, for a start, you don't 'know' Owen Wilson.... so he doesn't look dark, mysterious, kinda shifty and a bit worrying... or whatever you percieve a typical Scorpio to be like

And secondly, the side of himself he portrays to the media might only be skimming the surface of who he really is... I've read interviews with him etc... and the interviewer always claims "no, he really is like this!" But you can never really tell.
I know a Gemini who seems totally easy-going completely lovable and generally Mr Wondeful, but I shouldn't have forgotten he has a Scorp Ascendant with hidden depths and a volotile, scary, deep other side to him (not neccessarily his asc).

I think if an aspect or something is particularly strong in someone's chart it can outshine the other parts and colour their personality strongly. Does he have any planets close to the ascendant?

Mind you, he has a Cap rising so it might also be that you're seeing.... ahhhhh! Too many possibilities..

Anywho, he always seemed fairly Scorpish to me.. he's a lot like a few I know.

Yes, I've noticed a few who have really surprised me when I look at their charts.

Even when I look at my own chart now I get the sense that I'm not a stereotypical Capricorn. My Gemini ascendant and three planets in Sag in the 7th color me quite a bit. People have recently told me on this site that I look Sagittarian, and even Leo.

Does your model friend have any/many placements in the 7th house? That is Libra's house. Gemini is possibly the sign inhabiting your friend's 7th house (7th sign up from Capricorn ascendant), and you said he has a Gemini Moon. That could bring into play some Libran qualities.

Erato, if Owen Wilson has Neptune in Scorpio, then it could very well be conjuncting his sun - and as you know, Neptune rules Pisces, so that could explain his more Piscean personality.

Same with your freind. If he has Venus in Scorpio, then it could very well be influencing his sun, thus making him seem more Libra like.

Didn't you think it a bit odd that the sign characteristics that you see in these people just happen to be ruled by the planets that are in the same sign as there suns? The same thing could be said for planets conjuncting the ascendant, or the moon. Planetary energies can easily overwhelm the sign placement energies.

You've piqued my curiosity: later on I'll have to look at his chart.

Scorpio is the most secretive and guarded of the signs. If he has a preponderance of placements in the sign, he's likely a very private individual, and being a celebrity, it's quite possible that he puts on a different face for the public than the one he shows in his personal life. Ascendant (projected identity) and MC, house placements and aspects all figure in the makeup of the personality. I also agree with the thought that Neptune in close proximity to the sun could cast a sort of "smokescreen." Scorpio is strong in my chart and occupies the majority of my first house; I am so intensely private that I will deliberately act to obscure the very fundaments of my nature, so sacred are they to me to protect.

I looked up Owen Wilson's chart a while ago, because he looks and acts a lot like someone I know. I thought it was interesting that he has a stellium in Libra (Uranus/Jupiter/Mars) ..that's enough to lighten him up I think..and a singleton Saturn in fire (aries)..sometimes fire singletons can be fiery. The person I know also has strong Libra/Scorpio influence and a singleton Jupiter - Aries.. I bet Owen would have a Gemini or Sag ascendant.

Scorpio didn't surprise me too much with him, though I was expecting Libra with Scorpio influence.. The guy I know seems extremely light hearted and happy as well, before you get to really *know* him.. then the claws come out. Not so much with friends, he can still hide it with friends.. but definitely in love - so much possessiveness and mind games, regardless of the fact I was never his gf in the first place, so he wasn't exactly entitled to be possessive. I think he misses the point of the fact that you have actually be in a relationship with someone before you can claim their *faithfulness*. I wouldn’t be surprised if Owen had his serious side, or his possessive side or his obsessive-compulsive side in romance – you can kinda see it in his eyes..there’s an intensity there.. He’s not all peaches and cream I’m sure.

erato,

If your friend's Saturn (Asc ruler) is in Libra, it lends a Libran "sub-tone" to the Cappy Asc. I have a Cappy asc w/ Saturn in Virgo, and I definitely exhibit some strong Virgo traits.

peace,
hsc

Ditto on the Neptune conjunction, so what is Neptunian? Its elusive, what you see is not always what you get.

As I've said before Scorpio is funny

edited, come to think of it Owen Wilsons' nose is very Scorpio. It resembles a phallus.

Thank you all for taking time to respond to my post. As for my friend Alex, I semi-goofed. He has Saturn AND Pluto conjunct the MC at 27 degrees Libra. He has almost all of his planets in the 9th-11th houses, with the majority in the 10th. His Gemini Moon is in the 5th. Mars is on the ascendant (within a 2 degree orb-- did I mention the bone structure and fabulous bod!).

I think I get lost at the Sun conjunct Venus having Libra overtones. ( I do get the Sun conjunct Neptune = Pisces though, and Venus in aspect to Uranus would act somewhat like Aquarius etc...)

I once worked with a man who had a lot of Scorpio in his chart. When he stared at you, he went right through you, like a laser. He also had the most intense eyes I've ever seen. They were incredibly blue and and he had black hair. There was nothing laid back about him.... Very sharp.

I think that somewhat colored my view of Scorpio men, because I also dated a Scorpio, and talk about possessive (my venus conjunct uranus didn't like that much). But in those cases, it was apparent from the get go. As for my female friends, I've definitely seen the claws, and the intensity. It's been my experience they are very B&W. But again, it's very apparent to me there is strong Scorpio in the chart. (BTW-- I have Scorpio on the 7th house cusp, so I attract a lot of Scorpios in my life).

Alex isn't like that at all. I would not say he's meek, but he just isn't really following any of the "rules", and I've know him for more than a year. He goes for looks. He spends hours in front of the mirror and in the gym. He's a very talented artist, has a lot of friends etc. Just everything I associate with Libra. Could it be Pluto and Saturn conjunct his MC? Though I would think those two planet in particular would color the Libra influence?

What does everyone think? (Sorry for the long post again, but it's the only way I'm going to learn right?)

Nah, look more into the Capricorn influence in the 10th, Ascendant, and Mars. Capricorn deals with status (for which appearances are a must), art (typically visual, but often musical as well), and discipline (spending time at the gym).

I'm a Capricorn, and I can tell you that when I was young I was quite vain myself spending easily as much time in front of the mirror as a girl would. Of course, I DO, myself, have a strong Libra influence.

Well your friend and I have Capricorn in common - his ascendant, my sun. We also both have 5th house Moons, which are quite fun. Finally, we both have lots of Air influence (his Libra MC combined with Gemini and 11th house placements).

Does he have any stelliums (group of three or more planets in a sign or house)?

Wow! Alex has a full 10th house, starting with Mercury at 1 degree Scorpio, followed by Venus and the Sun at 10 degrees and Jupiter at 18 degrees... and he loves to sing....
