I am curious about the effect of Venus on attraction and how it relates to self-image. For example, let's say a man is attracted to Gem qualities (his Venus being in Gemini) -- talking, flirting, intellectualizing, flirting some more, the whole mental gymnastics thing. My boyfriend is this way. Furthermore, in terms of looks, he likes his women "rail-thin" as he puts it.

However, despite HIS attraction to my Gem influences, I have Venus in Cancer and therefore equate beauty with "traditional" femininity (i.e., curves). I won't be satisfied with how I look until I'm more womanly in appearance, instead of the tomboy-sprite.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm new here, please have patience with me

my venus is in virgo in the 3rd, i'm attracted to verbal, articulate, studious, charming types who know lots of stuff.

you may want to also look at the mars placement for attraction/desire.

what kind of thoughts are you looking for exactly?

I think he'd be okay if you got breast enhancement. That "t*ts on a stick" look is considered to be the premier body type, highly in fasion right now.

My venus is in Sagg. And so very true of me too, I like my men worldly, sophisticated and forgine. It's in my 6th house, Virgo, and such a soft spot I have for clean cut preppy boys, "metro sexual" or European. (The two are basically the same anyway.)

Welcome SkyGazer !!!

I am loving venus position in cancer!

I think men must look first to venus position (sign/house) and women first to mars position (sign/house)to find out what kind of characteristics they are mostly attracted to.

No, not really, European men just know how to dress.

Sounds like you're asking if a woman's Venus placement indicates the type of body she wishes she had?

Hmmm...

Hmmmm, well. I am a Sag Sun, Sag Mars and my Venus is in Libra (10th) and when it comes men, I do like a man who is well-built, but not really necessary...if I can connect really well to his brain, that's where my attraction really starts. For me, I am attracted to a man who is sure of himself, worldly and sophisticated, and if he has an accent, all the better. Definitely my Sag influences in play here, so to speak...hehe

Interesting ideas....
SkyGazer- are both you and your guy Geminis out of interest?
You might want a different body type but I mean as long as the person you're with likes what you look like, then I know that's all I'd care about!
In a twist of irony, I have fairly wide hips and a basic pear shape but I'd love to be more skinny... have my bottom half the same size as my top would be nice! But hey, I'm not hung up about it, I look okay generally.

My Venus is in Leo 7th house and my Mars in Gemini in 4th.
I personally don't see much correlation between any of that and the guys I go for, aside from my Mars in Gem which essentially makes talking and flirting a big turn on. As for my own body image, I'd agree that the Leo Venus makes me want to be well-turned out at all times, look my best etc and I tend to feel down if I don't think I look my best... so it's more the quality of how I look which affects me....
okay, maybe I was wrong... this is turning out accurate cos I just realised that my Venus being in 7th probably confirms the fact that I always feel more comfortable with my body image when I know someone else likes it like... I need reassurance and praise etc...

Not sure about that Mars in 4th though... should I like homely types??

hi... intresting topic,
body image and venus.... maybe true..
what attracts me physicaly to a man is a strong body...not muscular or heavy built but just strong , like a sports man, a football player or a soilder kind of a body that looks active, healthy and lean.
a body that i feel can protect me, shoulders strong enough to hold me tightly... i guess i do pay a lot of attention to a mans body when it comes to having a relationship with anyone.
Thin, slouchy, lazy men turn me off! ... a man that does not walk with his shoulders straight turns me off!
as for myself,i dislike having a thin figure, my ideal figure for a woman would be an hour glass type.

yes good topic!
Mutable, I reacted your post because you have venus in leo and say you feel down if you don't look good, I have venus in aries in the 5th and I feel the same, very much so! I will spend my last dollar on facial creams, but then forget and sit in the sun too long. I am always fighting myself on this but now that I read your post I feel better.

I don't know if they do any good which is so frustrating. I feel attractive myself when I am emotional because then I am in touch with my feelings, can listen to music, dance, and invite a man out with a reason.

As for men, I have mars in Sag/1st house, and I don't find many men attractive-it depends on what is happening in my life and if I happen upon a man with Sag or Aqua influences, I feel attracted. Like now, I have worked hard so this week I really want to be with an Aqua or Sag man. There are days when I swear I will grab the first Sag or Aqua who comes my way. Nothing physical because I have come to appreciate men with traditional values.

Thanks, everyone! Jump on in (Don't you wish this forum had an option where, the responses get displayed when you type your reply? I'm referencing this in a different window)

Lovely* - Thank you for your reply. My thoughts favor a question much like the one future_uncertain proposed.

LeylaLeFay - (smiles) I'm too afraid of the medical repercussions to do that. I'm just hoping to make peace with my current body type

alma-noble - You're right, I definitely am attracted to my Mars (in Gemini). I prefer intellectual, conversational types, those who lightly step from one idea to the next

future_uncertain - Yes! You got it!

Laura - Does your Venus in Libra affect how you view your body image? Answer only if you're comfortable

The Mutable Night Force - Nope, I'm a Gem & he's an Aries. He's attracted to my body type, but I'm generally disatisfied and have wanted a more "womanly" look most of my life. I wish I could be happy since he's happy with it, but I psychologically (and astrologically) can't seem to shake it.
I'm glad you found a correlation, it's nice to share insights! Not sure about Mars in the 4th, I'm still new to houses.

double trouble gemini - We have similar placements. I agree about the hourglass standard. What is your Mars placement?

Natasha - That's interesting, it almost sounds like you're more in control when you're emotional ... which seems counterintuitive at first. Do I understand you correctly? For me, my looks dictate how I'm feeling. It's not a good thing. When I have a bad day, you can tell because I'm dressed more nicely to counteract my low feelings.

astro junkie - Hmm ... when you do ... come on by!

luna*tic12 - Thanks! Your input is helping me feel that my question is valid.

HI SkyGazer

Mind if I ask what your age is?

I know two Geminis with Venus in Cancer. One of them being my sister and the other a friend. Both were rail thin in highschool. Our Gemini friend didnt even reach puberty till she was about 17 years old. But now both my sister and friend (both turning 23 this year) have filled out as much as they physically can, and enough for them to change their minds about their image. I think their attire, the way they walk and present themselves however really has enhanced their feminine and womanly appearance...almost as much as the weight and hence curves they've gained (in their mind...but really they havent gained all that much weight).

Aries Venus here, and I love the tomboyish look. You know, thin…no T&A I complain that I don’t have enough chest…but really I’m ok with it. However I hate muscle look - as in abs and arms and stuff…….just wrong
I’ve got Mars in Aries too, and I like him tall muscular but kind of thin……NOT too thin tho.
Certain “chubby” guys are very cute, but they tend to have body issues. I knew one who wouldn’t take his shirt off during.....

Nice to know that there are still some women with taste left on Earth...

BTW, out of curiosity, would these dimensions be consider strong built or heavy built?

Arms 17 "
Forearms 14 "

Waist 35 "

SkyGazer, hi, when I am emotional it does make me feel bad, but I rely on my ability to relate to others to feel better. I used to feel bad about it, and avoid my male friends, but then they would feel funny about spending time with me since I never needed them. Now they come to me when they are emotional, if I show it sometimes.

I imagine it's my strong Neptune it makes me feel like a blob, but when I touch others that way, it opens up feelings on the other side that are hidden, and so this is a perfect blend for dancing, hiking, or talking, which is what a lot of men I know really want to do but are afraid to ask. I don't subject anyone to my daily moods.

Compromise pushes me forward, so compromising on my desire to hide pushes me into new situations, and makes me assertive.

double trouble gemini - We've got the same combo! I do find myself physically attracted to lean, strong-looking men ... and I have a thing for shoulders (hehe)

DayDreamer - Since you asked so nicely! I'm actually the same age as your sister and your friend. The only difference is, I don't feel like I EVER reached puberty. You've given me something to think about, however ... about the manner of dress and how they carry themselves. Thank you for the input!

WaterNymph - Hmm, I see! (laughs merrily)

lqhunk - Tell your "friend" that those are very nice proportions. <winks>

Natasha - Interesting ... so if I'm hearing your right, it sounds like you've found a way of allowing your guy friends to express themselves openly with you. What about Neptune makes you "feel like a blob"? Does Neptune deals with illusions?

i have venus in gemini, but i'm not into the skinny types...maybe because i have it in the 12th...i wonder what that would indicate.
but in order for me to like somebody, i need to be able to communicate with him/her.

Skygazer- nice to know v share the same combination.
i guess then v hav a similar answer to the body image attraction theory,
"hourglass women and strong men"

Iqhunk- those measurements are surely strong,i hav a friend with similar, he looks attractive, espically shoulders, upper body.

My Venus in Libra is really into good looking guys who know how to dress... I know it's shallow, but since Venus is all about beauty, what can I say? Hehe...

Geez I know a guy with Venus in Gemini who is so shallow you wouldn't believe it. His girls have to be blonde and skinny. He's my ex Scorpio's best friend, and when me and the scorp were together he would FLIRT with me! Once Cody -the gemini-, Garren -the scorpio- & me were at Subway and Cody said "Garren you're lucky, man, your girlfriend's looking good again for *us*." Then Cody looked at me and did a flirty smile. Garren just glared at him then said "Well how about you just try to find another godd*mn house to stay at tonight?"

I know one guy with venus in Scorpio that like Blondes better than brunettes. Once I was trying to get one scorp sun & venus guy together with a scorp gal and he said "Nah I'm not interested."
Me: "Why not? She's so pretty and nice..?"
Him: "I know. I just don't like the....Brown hair. There's just something sexier in blondes."
Me:
Then my Venus in Scorp boyfriend 'says' that he perfers blondes but I think he's just saying that because I have blonde hair, lol; his ex's mostly are brunettes.

And I have Venus in Pisces. I think about love way more than I should. Not sex kind of love, but just being with my guy. As for body shape in a man, I change my mind with the guy. If he's tall and skinny, I like tall and skinny men. If he's big and muscular, I like big and muscular men.

As for looks in Me, the scorp in venus guys and the gem in venus guy, I couldn't tell you because we all have Sun conjunct Venus. Well, I have Ascendent Conjuct Venus. Lol..

always rolling us along
Tell me who wants to look back on their youth
and wonder where those years have gone...
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice
To sit it out or dance~ I hope you dance
