Your mother is having a Karmic degree too in Virgo, so she might go to the extreme in criticism. Her Mercury is well placed and so is Venus. Being Libran, socializing is natural for her.

However, she is right that you must come out of your shell because your True Node or destiny warrants it. It is in Gemini, sign of communication.
You can learn to do so in small and comfortable steps. You dont have to jump to a centre stage and start extempore but start by speaking more to trustworthy people and so on. Many people are scared of speaking too much because they think
1) They dont look attractive
2) Their voice is not good
3) They stutter/stammer/lisp/get tongue tied
4) They think they have bad looking teeth or that their smile is too toothy
5) They dont have anything intelligent to say.

All the above are lame excuses. If people make fun of another for any of the above 5, they are freely taking on your bad karmas and hence it is a win win situation!

So, start speaking out more in steady and comfortable ways.
