Most astrologers say that Natal Planets in retrograde make a hard aspect out of an 'easy' one, take this quote from Martha Lang Westcott from 'Mechanics of the Future' Asteroids......."In my experience for example a Trine that envolves retrograde energy manifests as a traditional trine on outer or observable levels, but maintains a complexity that is experienced as though it were a resistant or 'hard' [there is that naughty word in reference to aspects] aspect on inner or psychological levels. The trine from a retrograde Saturn to Mars may indeed produce the individual who is self disiplined in the sense of accomplishment who manages energy and action efficiently, and who's temper is controlled under fire. However, the retrograde Saturn produces a father archetype that 'drives' and motivates the Mars from fear of inadequacy. The self discipline is a defense against the father, against the need to prove oneself against the inpact of the negative consequences through the house and sign of Saturn.....The aspect involving a retrograde often has the "no one knows what I go through" quality to it. An observer might take the apparent 'ease' [of the trine] as the whole truth, and it isn't. As the experience (represented by the retrograde energy) is accesed in the personality, it's as though it were playing 'the tape' (of childhood) at such a low (suppressed) volume that often the individual doesn't even know that he's hearing (and acting and reacting) to that old music! There hasn't been any good role modlels for handling the retrograde energy; the person is more likely to know how NOT to do it than how TO do it." The paragraph goes on but some important insights to retrograde energy are out lined above. My question is; if the subliminal energy manifests from a so called 'easy 'aspect what do you think happens when it is part of a TSquare? I have 5 retrograde planets, and 5 T-squares IP: Logged |

Node,You asked: quote: ...if the subliminal energy manifests from a so called 'easy 'aspect what do you think happens when it is part of a TSquare?
In my opinion, the more "challenges" in a chart, the more opportunity for personal development. Retrogrades are one form of challenge, while T-squares are another. The T-square challenge, however, is a FOCUSING challenge, in which the person's energy is focused on a particular area of life, so a T-square represents a great opportunity to achieve extraordinary results in the area focused on by the T-square...if the person can "solve" their challenges.

Thanks AJ! I missed the reply from Tim. Does it help my understanding? Yes, and no. Hearing that these are two different energies [retro + T-square] is apparent. Hearing that the T focuses, albiet thru difficulty, provides a springboard [of sorts] but... I'm still working on the retro energy... see my mind wants an equasion retro + T = ? It's just not that simple. Breaking down the equasion to houses, lords, aspect, planets and so on makes it much more complex. It might be easier if I take one T at a time! Thank you both.IP: Logged |

Node -There you are ... thanks for the reply ... I really like your question, really excellent, and that quote is amazing. If you are starting out in astrology, you might just need more time to work with the Retro energies within yourself, as well as getting feedback from others who share similar energies and/or challenges. I think that's a good place to start. At the same time, you can also be reading stuff which focuses directly on T-Squares, if you want. Just concentrate on what your challenges are in present time and terms while you go through it. Then it will be easier for you to see similarities between a "T-Square" and "Houses", or "Retro's" and Houses, etc. I think it's important to keep your most present situation in mind, then what you read will take on a much more intuitive or emotive quality as it relates to you. The different "ism's" in astrology are like characters or personalities. They all relate in different ways, and each Chart has it's own sense of timing. A great to-the-point reference book on T-Squares is "Planetary Aspects: From Conflict to Cooperation" by Tracy Marks. It helped me understand my T-Square, and not just the challenges, but the good news too.

Hey Tim - quote: he T-square challenge, however, is a FOCUSING challenge, in which the person's energy is focused on a particular area of life, so a T-square represents a great opportunity to achieve extraordinary results in the area focused on by the T-square...if the person can "solve" their challenges.
What would you say the areas of challenge/opportunity would be in T-Squares involving (respectively): 1) - 23d Virgo 11th House Saturn - 22d Saggie 2nd House Neptune - 22d Piscean 5th House Sun 2) - An Out-of-Sign conj. with a 29d Libran 11th House Pluto and a 4d Scorp 12th House Saturn - 1d Aqua 3rd House Sun - 2d Taurean 6th House Moon Um, Selfishly (I always feel a compulsion to sign-off after reading your posts), Corri IP: Logged |

proxieme,The T-square naturally focuses on the planet or point which has the two squares to it. So, in your case the T-square for 1) focuses on Neptune (spirituality, also confusion). Neptune challenges are to merge with everything while not losing ourself in the process! The T-square for 2) focuses on Sun (self-expression). Sun challenges are frequently to express ourself while not becoming too "prideful" about it. For more information about the details of these focuses look to the signs and houses they are in. That's kind of the thing - I don't exactly get how Neptune would play out in the 2nd.The descriptions that I've read don't seem to hold any relevance for me. IP: Logged |

proxieme,Since Neptune is about spirituality and "dissolving" things into it...it can get pretty confusing to understand what Neptune means in our chart. One possibility: With Neptune (spirituality, also confusion) focused in the 2nd house (physical, also values)...do you ever find yourself confused about your values...or are spiritual values important to you? Guessing, Tim IP: Logged | |
