dear jazzebel,

i started this thread to discuss solar arcs & compare notes, astro junkie has mentioned that you are very knowledgable on the topic (thanks AJ!).

i wish i had more time here to share some info on what i have found, but ill have to do that later.

i did however want to get this thread (party) started and ask a question:

what exactly triggers an arc? i realize transits do this, but i just dont understand how exactly...which transits work better, all that jazz.

for instance, i have MC=Venus right now. it perfected early march, so i have another (approx) 6 months of activity on the arc according to noel. now this arc, from tyl's book, means falling in love, getting a raise, forwarding a career in the arts. at this time i have tr neptune right on my natal venus, is this the kind of trigger transit that works? or do i look for tr VENUS to be doing something with my natal venus? im just a tad confused in this area.

btw, that arc, mc=venus, it's totally not working in my life right now. im so far from that. ive found most other major arcs ive experienced have usually coincided with life situations, so im baffled as to why this one is falling flat. suppose it could be tr neptune on my n. venus?

thanks so much!

more soon,
chrissy

okie, i finally have time to add to this thread.

for those who dont know how, you can check your current solar arc chart on astrodienst, just go to extended chart selection and choose "natal, progressed, and solar arc combined" under type of chart you want. download the PDF file, look on the 3rd page, and there's your current SA chart. down at the bottom is the aspectarian grid, i believe the SA positions are on the left and the natals up at the top. look for any solar arc planets/angles making hard aspect to your natal planets/angles (conjunction, opp, square, semisquare, sesquiquadrate). if the aspect is applying by 1°, that equates generally speaking to 1 year away. the basic rule for SAs is 1° = 1 year. 30 minutes = half a year and 5 minutes = 1 month. of course, for people born march through september the arc may be a little off from that due to the fluctuation in the sun's speed, but there's the general gist of it, 1°=1 year. direct arcs are generally active, noel tyl says, for about a year and a half...with the arc being more likely to produce an event closer the date of perfection or just a little after. though in actuality i have come across at least a couple major arcs in my chart that started taking effect for me as soon as they became active, that is to say, the arc had just begun to apply by 1°. so perfection was a year away but i noticed activity relating to the arc around a year prior. anyway, what you are supposed to look for are trigger transits, and what your SP moon is doing. these things can trigger an arc.

i've come closer to understanding trigger transits now --- triggers are generally short term transits that ZIP across a point that has been activated for a much longer time. triggers FIRE the long term transit, progression or direction (solar arc) into expressing (not always, but often).

if you have transiting pluto conjunct the natal moon as i do at this time, it's in effect for YEARS!!! you won't be experiencing pluto conjunct moon every single day for years though. you might go months without an hint and then, a trigger planet comes along, like mercury turning direct on that point, or a lunar event on that point or its opposition, AND WHAMMMOOO, the long term transit, progression, or direction leaps into action. it suddenly expresses all over the shop because the trigger has set it off.

triggers move quickly over degrees in the chart that have been under a much much longer influence. it's like we become immune to the long term transit or direction and the trigger instantly sensitizes us again.

examples of triggers are, as mentioned, lunations (lunar events like full, new and eclipses), mercury transits, especially changes of direction, the progressed moon (converse or direct) and sometimes venus, mars and the sun when it's involved with the lunation.

so, i hope this helps. if anyone wants to check their SAs and post 1 or 2 arcs, i will share with you from tyl's book about what itmeans and we can discuss if it is in keeping with what is going on for you.

i will eventually pull together some info about a couple major arcs ive experienced and how they fit into my life.

Hey chrissy-

Thanks again for posting this thread! I swear I need to pack a lunch eveytime I sit down to read your posts!! Ha,ha...

If you wouldn't mind giving some simple solar arc examples with the events and time-frames, I feel this would be most helpful! Broken down and simplified using perhaps the outer planets (since they pack the big punches). It might even be as simple as a SA planet changing houses. Does that have an impact??

So many people here are learning about transits...I believe there is a lot of predictive value to solar arcs too! It would be great to gain better understanding of how Solar Arcs support ongoing transits present in the natal charts!

dear gemstar,

sure thang, hot stuff. i shall do this tomorrow, i think, because while i have tyl's book with me at work today, i forgot my notebook with all my notes in it.

i do have plenty to share, i had corresponding arcs when i got the job i have now which was the start of my career as a graphic designer, i had corresponding arcs when both my grandmothers died (the only 2 family deaths ive experienced since ive been an adult), i had corresponding arcs when i met my last relationship & when we broke up - big ones which is fitting since it was a major r-ship. i even had a corresponding arc around 5 years ago (before my last r-ship that ijust mentioned) when i was dating this person that bored me considerably & who i continued to date for several months because i was lonely and he smelled nice. (ha!)

anyway, more tomorrow!

dear gemstar,

okie doke, brought my notebook with all my notes with me today. here is a good sample list of arcs:

1. jupiter=mars
perfected nov 5, 99
active nov 98 through may 00
"tremendous energy, enterprise, making things happen in a big way, making waves effectively"
mars rules my 2nd (money) & 7th

2. MC=moon
perfected dec 15 1999
active dec 98 through june 00
"ego consciousness alerts all one's senses"
moon rules my 10th (career)

***got job i have now at local university, start of my career as a graphic designer in november 1999

3. MC=sun
perfected mar 1 2001
active mar 2000 through sep 2001
"professional fulfillment, getting what one deserves"
sun rules my 11th

***it was at this time i was really loving my job, my 1st real job after college that i could call a career job...and at this time, i met a guy on-line who was very nice, and very into me. we dated for a few months and then i broke it off, he bored me and i think i was just seeing him because i was lonely romantically and he was so good to me

4. neptune=saturn
perfected jul 2002
active jul 01 through jan 03
"losing focus of ambition, depression, sense of being wronged"
saturn rules my 4th (family, inner emotions)

***around this time my maternal grandmother died, which was very saddening. the boring guy and i also broke up when this arc was active. even though i knew we just were not compatible, i still felt what the arc describes -- i felt wronged because he just wasn't who i fantasized he'd be. i got over it quickly, but i still had those feelings for a brief time

5. uranus=sun
perfected may 8 2003
active may 02 through nov 03
"excited state in relationship, possible break up"
sun rules 11th (social life)

***on the day this perfected, i met my last relationship (gordon)!

6. chiron=moon
perf mar 9 2005
active mar 04 thru sep 05
this means there's a chironization of my emotions, potential for deep hurt, wound to surface, esp since moon rules 10th

*** on the day this perfected, my relationship with g ended

7. neptune=nn
perfected july 26 2005
active july 04 through jan 06
"possible breakdown of relationship, sense of being out of the group"
nn in 5th

8. chiron=pluto
perf jan 1 2006
active jan 05 through jul 06
chironization of any deep personal crisis i am going through, death-rebirth thing
pluto rules 2nd (self worth), in 12th

•••breakup with g still continues to affect me to this day, both these arcs represent this

i hope this helps, i just gave a sample of the arcs i was experiencing during this period. i have MC=venus, chiron=sun, mc=saturn, and jupiter=mercury this year perfecting in that order and even though all are active right now i unfortunately am rushed for time so i cant type out interps for those and how i think they fit in my life, but i hope what i have typed helps!

Thanks Chrissy!!

OK...I will have to sit and study each example a bit further....and want to clarify one thing...the first planet is the solar arc and the second planet was natal?? Or was it a solar arc planet as well?

Have you related these examples to regular transits happening to your natal chart during that time period?

Oh...and did you find one chart more predictive than another (ex-Progressed vs Natal...or Solar chart vs Progressed)??

Thanks! I am going to look at mine though I am wondering if these solar arcs can pass over a point and nothing happens...have you noticed that ever happening at all? Noel Tyl is really incredible...one of my good friends has some of his books too!

Catch you later! This is exciting stuff Ms. Green!! I am running off to eat my lunch!! (Which I packed/made before devouring this fabulous information!! Ha,ha...)

dear gemstar,

yes, the 1st planet or point is the solar arc planet/pt, and the equals sign means "in hard aspect to", then the 2nd planet or point is the natal planet or pt.

i am in the process of noting all important transits going on at the time of major arcs. will let you know what i find!

also, i use solar arcs, progressions, AND transits, i think all 3 are important...

solar arc connections to natal
secondary progs
transits to natal (activating an arc) & transits to the SPs as timing

hope this helps!
