I'm just curious as to how people can not believe in astrology? It is truly a complex science, and I've been delving further and further into it slowly for years and know that I have just touched the surface. Are there educated scientists and scholars who have argued against its validity, and how do they dispel or belittle all of the calculations that go into it? No one completely disbelieves physics as a science... I'm truly wanting to hear how the opposing view argues that all of astrology is make-believe or nonsense.

CapGirl,

The most common method scientists make is to claim to have "investigated" astrology and then found out it can't be proven. When asked whether they bothered to learn the rules of astrology, these scientists claim there are no rules, it is all made up. The few scientists who bother to explore astrology and learn the rules (particularly psychologists and psychiatrists) usually find "something" there, although they differ widely on how significant it is.

Scientifically astrologizing,

Tim

Hi CapGirl,

Here's an interesting article that I came across on Bob Marks' web site that you may or may not have read.

Astrology for Skeptics

Well considering that astrology has implications on personality, therefore its closest scientist neighbour would be psychologist. And psychological theories r not accepted unless they are put to test via experiments on ppl,,,,n replicated to find the same results.

I m a psychologist..and My dream experiment is to prove this correlation thru psychology...its gonna be hard to convince someone to do it in a psychology lab though!

Yeah scientists can be like that. If they can’t prove it, it doesn’t exists. The thing is, how do you test astrology without using psychology ( which isn’t even considered a “proper” science ).

I think what’s worse than scepticism, is lack of knowledge. Many people see it as a game and nothing more

“what sign are you?………..oh that’s such a cute sign”
Or
“oh you’re a Virgo, that’s not good”
Or
“oh today’s your birthday? So that makes you a……..Libra?”

I just don’t know what to say to them

Astrology will not be permitted to be revealed as a science by those in charge of the World at present. Astrology causes empowerment and the masses cannot be controlled if they took responsibility for their own destiny.

I tell Astronomers (who seem to be some of the loudest voices against Astrology), that just because we lack the instrumentation to quantify and qualify something doesn't mean it doesn't exist...For centuries we couldn't measure magnetism or radiation, we couldn't see them, but that didn't mean they didn't exist.

My goal isn't to convert them to Astrology (nigh on impossible), it's to point out that as scientists they are supposed to maintain an open mind...

CapGirl,

Also consider the "dirty secret": that astronomy came FROM astrology! First there was astrology and studying the stars, from which came astronomy and understanding the movement of the stars. In the 1700s, for the first time ever, a separation was made between the "science" of "astronomy" and the study of "astrology". Most scientists are aware of this and it must REALLY make them mad to think that astrology was there before their modern science was! They make up for their insecurity by declaring astronomy "better" somehow...as if science were a popularity contest!

Scientifically,

Tim
