and if so do you feel sort of "apart" or "alienated" from others, and do you know of any theories which would back up this "feeling".....

I have Mercury retrograde in Sag, 1st house.
Don't know if I feel apart or alienated. Sometimes feel totally alone but then don't we all?

Found this here: http://www.lunarnodes.co.uk/planets.htm

Mercury
Mercury is often retrograde and slows down the faculties, making them fixed to the present day. The individual is more practical and pragmatic – as if lacking imagination. The individual finds it hard to concentrate and focus, to think things through.

Mercury is the planet of communication and intelligence or learning. So a retrograde Mercury could indicate a shy person, someone afraid to speak or, alternatively, someone with learning difficulties depending on where the planet lies in the birth chart (in terms of sign and house placement). The person has difficulties coming to terms with the planets significance and requires an urgency to work out the challenges with more urgency.

I have Mercury in retrograde in my 12th House but I never looked much into it. It would explain why I'm so shy though, as secret posted above.
When you say deep seated issues with parents, what do you mean though? Like... I'm not fond of my dad because he's very insensitive vs. me, who is extremely sensitive, and so he hurts my feelings all the time and makes me feel stupid. I've come to resent it a bit, and he's very short tempered.

I have Mercury retrograde in the eleventh house (conjunct Moon). I don't know that I feel alienated; I haven't noticed that being an issue.
The post about the parent is more right on with me; I have the same exact situation, Illusion. I get along pretty well with my Father now, since he has "mellowed out". At his worst, he is brutally insensitive not to mention he has very traditional ideas about women which have never coincided with my "modern" views.......a clash of the wills, all the way!

I have a retrograde mercury conj. the sun, but I do not lack imagination.I really think a huge percent of people have parent issues, at least in the first half of their lives, that would be more house placement and moon or saturn.Sometimes a retro mercury can cause miscommunications, but it can also provide focus.

I have 6th house mercury retrograde in Taurus. I do have a learning disability and can have a hard time focusing now and then. My mind takes a much longer time to process things than most people.

I don't always feel alienated, and I do have friends, but sometimes I don't always want to be around people. I'm shy around people that I don't really know/acquiantances, so I can come off as being a little distant/aloof. But around my friends, I am very loud, chatty, and outgoing.

As for parents....my dad and I get along great! But with my mom....there's a little bit of tension. We get along, but I am not very open with her (and don't have much interest in it). She can be very overcritical. But we have our nice moments.

^^I think most of this stuff may be caused by some of my other placements though.

Do you think you are more right-brain oriented, or left? I think when one part seems non-existent, it's really not. It exists, but much more in the background and possibly, subconscious and powerful.

Well...I consider myself to be more left brained. I am left handed and I am very good at math and with basic facts. But when it comes to abstract concepts or analyzing and filling in details, I have a hard time. I am also not the most self motivated person and need lots of structure to be able to know what to do.

that is so interesting ...

It explains so well what you mean by "abstract concepts", "analyzing", and "filling in details". If you had just said you were good at math and left it at that, I would automatically think you WERE good at all those other things. Sort of like the character in Rain Man? And many other genius' too!

So you get a companion and take care of each other forever!

You said you needed to be more self-motivated, or you felt that way about yourself - so what's your Mars in? Do you know House?

Thanks.

I've got Mercury RX in Libra in the 10th House.

I don't believe I'm all that pragmatic, and imagination I'm definately not lacking. It is sometimes hard to think things through though.

I used to be shy, but now I "talk people's ears off" I'm shy if I'm around a huge clique, but if it was myself and one other person alone, its easy for me to talk to them. I don't believe I have a learning disability.

The issues with your parents is definately true. I've got several aspects that points to it. My stepfather and I have a love/hate relationships, plus some odd underlying tension. You can't trust him, he is guided by his moods. One day he can be very nice, friendly, the next he'll be calling you fat and saying your worthless, or touching your belly fat. So with him, you must be careful.

With my mom...she works 24/7. You can't rely on her all that much either. She tries, but she fails miserably. There's all sorts of issues, ranging f/ Depression to abandonment to sibling rivalry to battles of the will to...well...uncomfortable and perhaps sexual...ness.

I'm not sure this is all solely on Mercury RX. I also have some hard squares between my Sun and Saturn, which I've read could do it. Or Sun Square Uranus/Mars...?

It's hard to belive the RX alone could give a learning disability, but I have this in Gemini 7th house and my school did think I was slow only I caught up later. This could be because it's opposite Mars in Sag. Lots of reasons. Lack of imagination isn't a problem here either.

The parent thing is true, that is sibling wars, backbiting, anger, lots of issues that I stay away from. My life=good when family is not involved. It's that simple. The females can be very catty-refer to my fat, "ugly hair", clothes often.

Regarding your response of your Mars in Pisces in the 4th, it IS good that you are able to find the right people to help you out, bring that structure to your life. I'm thinking, since it's in the 4th, you may place a lot of importance to finding that through your family, or at the homefront.
