Hi, I am trying to understand more about the whole chart rule thing. My gf is a Libra, and has her Asc is in Cancer, and her chart ruler moon is in Pisces/9th house. What would this mean specifically about her overall composition? Is this supposed make her more Pisces and Sag like in terms of personality/looks? Also, I am a Libra with Virgo asc, chart ruler merc in Libra/2nd and Moon in Sag/4th, any info on how these influences would/should/can work between us would be wonderful! Thanks! L78 IP: Logged |

I have been a professional astrologer for 23 years and have never used the "chart ruler" concept. I suspect that it has been superceded by other knowledge, making it relatively useless.IP: Logged |

libra78, i'll give you a solid example from my own experience. my rising sign is libra, and so my chart ruler is venus. my venus in the 5th (there's good example of my artist persona; i'm a graphic designer) in aquarius is exactly square saturn in taurus in the 8th.basically what i take from this is evidence of my very serious nature, even given the pleasant social quality of libra rising. even given a 5th house aquarian venus. i am by nature rather serious, dedicated. i worry a lot, and i doubt myself in relationship to some extent -- with a venus/saturn square, there's usually a desire for love, but the urge to push it away...nothing is ever good enough. now this aspect would probably be evident in my personality even if venus were not my chart ruler, given its exactness (about a quarter of a degree). however, venus/saturn is a deep, deep part of my personality, a lot more accessible to me than say my moon/mars conjunction (because it's a rather wide conjunction and it's dissociate, moon in late sag and mars in early cap) and therefore i can see how it operates on a higher level of consciousness for me *because* of it being an aspect my chart ruler makes. transits to the chart ruler are also more deeply felt. like right now i'm having tr neptune on my venus, activating that venus/saturn square, and it's near dissolving my sense of self. now i dont remember the specifics of your woman's chart ruler, you did say it was moon in the 9th, right? think about the 9th house; does she express herself more easily there? is her identity wrapped up in 9th house affairs, like beliefs, religion, education, philosophy, search for meaning, ethics, law, different cultures? she would be especially inclined to the spiritual side of the 9th as her moon's in pisces, right? now look at the aspects her moon makes. i cant remember if you mentioned any, but let's say her moon makes an exact aspect to pluto. think about what this might mean; it would definitely lend her scoprionic qualities to her emotions, to her basic consciousness. that's what the moon is -- it is a basic awareness that constitutes the patterns of many lifetimes. it is an energetic sheath that represents not only what we are at essence but what we have been and known. it is an "i" consisting of many “i”s, and is the sum of experience. this is her chart ruler, and any exact aspects it makes will color her personality in a way that is more visible to the world than perhaps the aspects her 3rd house ruler makes. does this make sense? i hope it helps you. chrissy IP: Logged |

as I learned itThe chart ruler represents you. (Ascendant) Depending on the sign, house placement, and aspects it makes in the natal, it shows where your strong and weak points are. As in a planet that is dignified or debilitated. If its dignified it works for you If debilitated works against you. This is only one part and the whole chart must be taken into consideration. The aspects that the Ruler of the Ascendant makes to the other planets show how easy or hard it is for you to handle the affairs represented by the house the aspected planet rules. an example would be Mars conjunct Venus in the 5th house Mars ruling Asc. Venus ruling Desc. This would show that You and your partners are on the same page as far as wants and goals are concerned. You have good partnerships that are easy and productive. A hard aspect would show trouble areas that you have to work at. An unaspected planet would show a disconnect in the area shown by the house where the unaspected planet rules. Look on the cusp. This will be modified by any planet that is posited in that house. hope that wasn't confusing IP: Logged |

That was helpful, thanks. This is off-topic, but, dont you find that the conjunction is very often a hard ("dynamic" or "challenging") aspect, particularly when the planets involved are of opposing gender? And, then there is the sign to consider... The Mars/Venus conjunction, for instance, shows markedly different characteristics, when placed in Pisces, Taurus, or Libra, than, say, Aries, Scorpio, or Capricorn. In the case of the former, Venus would very likely predominate, and the aspect would be far more harmonious. In Scorpio, this person could be quite charming, but quite intolerable, as well, right? take care, ~ hsc

you're absolutely right HSC A Sun/Uranus conjunction would act totally different (eccentric) than the Mars/Venus, even though you could put Leo rising (Sun) and Aquarius (Uranus) on the Descendant HSCIP: Logged | |
