I was looking for asteroid Urania and its aspects, someone referred to it as conrtibuting to Da Vinci's genius (conjunct his Uranus) and I found this! Enjoy!

The Chart of Genius

The chart is unbalanced.
There is a lack of planets in one element or quality
Overstressed or afflicted 3rd house (the mind)
A malefic in the 3rd (Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto)
The ruler of the 3rd is in close aspect to one or more malefic(s)
The 10th house (career, public recognition, fame) is often afflicted
A close, stressful connection between the 3rd and the 10th
The way this person's mind works interferes with his or her reputation and work in the world.
The Ascendant is often afflicted.
A malefic is rising or the chart ruler may be in close aspect to a malefic, indicating that the person has difficulty "adjusting" to society or may not be able to at all
Connections between the Ascendant and the 3rd house
The way this person's mind works interferes with his ability to adapt to everyday life. He also has difficulty expressing his thoughts in a way that others can understand.
Mercury is often afflicted by a malefic, especially an outer planet
Indications of sexual frustration, inhibition, or transference of sexual values upon other things (art, music, guitar playing, surfing the internet)
Jupiter (success) or Venus (money) are often afflicted by Mars, Saturn or Uranus
Money is often denied or slow to come. Recognition is hard won if at all. There is a lack of concern for her or his own health, comfort and physical well being that sometimes amounts to shocking negligence, as if s/he were deliberately sacrificing himself or herself for some higher ideal.
At one time in high school, for reasons lost to me now, I had to sit in a study hall with the educably mentally handicapped, as they were called at that time. It quickly occurred to me that there was virtually no difference in the social behavior of my high-IQ classmates and these presumably polar opposites.

Both groups wiggled and fidgeted. They were nervous interacting socially, could not express themselves, often giggled inappropriately and displayed immature emotional responses to sexuality and the opposite sex. (You know, like your favorite Computer Nerd Pal.)

I later discovered that Freud noticed this, too, when he said that his psychoanalytic theories worked well for all but the genius and the psychotic.

The charts of these two groups will have the above qualities in common. What distinguishes the genius is that there is a tight grouping of planets. Psychotics have a spread of planets, resulting in a lack of ability to focus and concentrate that distinguishes them from their odd-man-odd partners, the geniuses.

The charts of genius will often have a prominent Pluto as well, sometimes through such subtle aspects as parallels and contra-parallels or mutual receptions

John Nash was both a psychotic and genius.

Have you ever watched Beautiful Mind? That was true story of John Nash. He was a mathematical genius with paranoid schizophrenia.

There are many highly intelligent people with psychotic disorders.

Hiya - I'm briefly back doing some lurking for research and data collecting (and being nosy), and I can't resist responding to this, as it sooo tickles my ego

The chart is unbalanced. - check. My chart's heavy in air and mutable signs
There is a lack of planets in one element or quality - check. I have only one planet in a fire sign, and one in a cerdinal sign
Overstressed or afflicted 3rd house (the mind) - check. I have one end of a multiple opposition in my 3rd (Jup and Nep conj), plus Neptune is a singleton due to being the only fire
A malefic in the 3rd (Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto) - check. Neptune (also a singleton, and it's doubly malefic as a singleton)
The ruler of the 3rd is in close aspect to one or more malefic(s) - check. Scoprio rules my 3rd, and Pluto is closely sextiled Neptune and closely trined Saturn
The 10th house (career, public recognition, fame) is often afflicted - check. My 10th, where my Merc (chart ruler) and Sun are conjunct, is the apex of a t-square
A close, stressful connection between the 3rd and the 10th- not sure what they are looking for, but Gem, the ruler of the 3rd, rules my 10th, where the aforementioned t-sqaure apex is.
The Ascendant is often afflicted. -check. My Virgo ASC is squared by my chart ruler, Gem Merc. Does it get any more afflicted? Oh yes, it's also opposed by my Pisces moon.
A malefic is rising or the chart ruler may be in close aspect to a malefic, indicating that the person has difficulty "adjusting" to society or may not be able to at all - double check. I have both. Pluto is rising, AND my chart ruler is aspected by 3 malefics, Pluto (sqaure), Uranus (trine) and Mars (trine). AND I've had a terrible time adjusting to society. Oh wait, I haven't adjusted....
Connections between the Ascendant and the 3rd house - check. Virgo ASC, corules the 3rd. Plus I have 3H Jupiter trining the ASC.
The way this person's mind works interferes with his ability to adapt to everyday life. - check. My life's story. Sad, but true. Heap pity on me.
He also has difficulty expressing his thoughts in a way that others can understand. - check. While I do well in expressing impersonal things in writing, anything personal or intimate I have a deplorably hard time expressing without being misunderstood.
Mercury is often afflicted by a malefic, especially an outer planet - check. Merc is squared by Pluto, and trined Mars and Uranus.
Indications of sexual frustration, inhibition, or transference of sexual values upon other things (art, music, guitar playing, surfing the internet) - check. I actually do finnel my sexual energies into creative pursuits, as music and writing. My Mars is in Aqua, which indicates great control over my sexual drives, and Mars in conj my NN, that indicates a *very* strong sexual drive. You do the math.
Jupiter (success) or Venus (money) are often afflicted by Mars, Saturn or Uranus
Money is often denied or slow to come. Recognition is hard won if at all.
- check, check and check. I'm a very educated, intelligent, and talented person, yet I'm constantly being turned down for decent jobs and having to settle for jobs that pay far less than I ought to be making. People seem to resist giving my recognition or credit. I have Venus conj Saturn, and this conjunction opposes my Jupiter.
There is a lack of concern for her or his own health, comfort and physical well being that sometimes amounts to shocking negligence, as if s/he were deliberately sacrificing himself or herself for some higher ideal. - check. I wouldn't say deliberately" as that sounds damn pretentious, but yeah, I'm habitually negligent about my hygiene and appearence due to my intense focus on other things.

I can understand what you're saying, although that's a very broad and absolute generalization that I can't fully agree with. I have an IQ of 165 (or 160, depending on which test). I also have Asperger's Syndrome, which causes socialization delays. I had to learn many social skills that other people picked up intuitively. In a sense I am handicapped socially, but unlike severely mentally handicapped people, I was able to adapt, learn and to acquire skills the overcome that handicap. I could wiggle and fidget a lot too, but I've learned to cope with this. For people with AS, that is an indicator of stress, usually social or environment stress. Most people on the autism spectrum like those with AS (which includes many so-called "computer nerds") have specific challenges socially and enviornmentally that cause the traits you've observed, but yet again, unlike the mentally handicapped, we can learn to deal with them.

Be sure not to confuse mental handicaps with psychological disorders or mental illness. But as Galucus said, yes, there's often a comorbidity of high intelligence and psychological problems (although we're not all psychotics). But not all psychotics are high intelligence - about 90% of dx'd schizophrenics, for example, have below average intelligence.

Many high intelligence persons exhibit traits of autism, which is a neurological condition caused by hyperdevelopment of the brain. This may be in the form of Asperger's, or a more generalized "high functioning autism." Autism may be considered a disorder, as problem relating to social development often cause secondary psychological problems.

More generally speaking, anyone with high intelligence will likely exhibit a highly sensitive and vulnerable psyche and may develop psychological problems at some point in their life as well. John Nash, who likely has Asperger's too, had a schizophrenic breakdown, but that's an extreme example. Depression is by far the most common, while other disorders, such as anxiety, OCD, bipolar can also occur. I myself have been struggling with depression since I was 8, and even had a psychotic break when I was 22.
