Being a fixed sign, Leo has difficulty rising above its history. It has long been the sign of the hereditary monarch which has held it down to the level of physical heredity. But every person has both a physical and a spiritual heredity. Think of the double strands of DNA as one strand physical and one spiritual. We are the offspring of both Mother Earth and Father God and Leo is intended to be identified with the Heavenly Father. It means Son of God., but that can be a real turn-off when ministers preach a small, judgmental, even abusive, God. The great task of your life will be to accept the elemental Leo-type qualities and use them in an enlightened way.
Self acceptance must begin with a larger vision of Deity. That which we normally call God/dess is the very energy and substance of all that is. The simplest way to view it is as Living Consciousness. Remember, in Genesis, where God “breathed” into the physical creation called man? Breath is always symbolic of consciousness. The passage goes on to say–“and man became a Living Soul.” From that time on, humanity carried the potential for God-Consciousness. However the realization of that comes gradually over many incarnations. Still, through it all, the method for Divine Self-Awareness is through Human Self-Awareness. And, conversely, the key to Human Self-Awareness is through recognition of the divine aspects of human nature. We are the image/reflection of Deity. Deity sees/knows Itself through us. And that is what it means to be Son of God/dess, what it means to be Leo. We are god-spirits playing human roles and Leo is the epitome of that principle.

Instead of thinking of "Fixed" you could think of "Security". Secure signs need to be "safe" in some way, to be protected and to feel that the world is a "safe" place. As a result, they like to create an image of a world a certain way and KEEP the world that way in their mind...even if the real world changes. More about this in Step 4 of the link below.
