Quincunx is the aspect that shows which planetary energies we are unable to combine but unlike opposition, it is a master-and-servant aspect where one planet always supresses the other;

To find out which of them is the master and which is the servant, we should look at their placement in regard to imaginary opposition line; The planet that is on the left-hand side is the master, that on the right-hand side is the servant.

e.g. I have Venus in Aries and Uranus in Scorpio and Mars in Virgo; it means freedom (Uranus) is always more important than love (Venus) but my deeds and actions (Mars) will depend upon my desires and physical needs(Venus); i.e. Uranus is stronger than Venus but Venus is stronger than Mars;

I have a number of quincunx aspects in my chart and it does make a lot of sense to me;

Anyone else notices this too?

I'll have to think more about this later.

I have:
Moon quincunx Uranus 0°29
Moon quincunx Ascendant 2°42
Venus quincunx Uranus 0°20
Venus quincunx Ascendant 1°54
Jupiter quincunx Ascendant 3°36
Saturn quincunx Neptune 1°19

My South Node is also conjunct my Moon/Venus in Gemini and quincunx Uranus/Ascendant in Scorpio.

What's the imaginary opposition line?

I have only two Quincunx, but it looks like they'd be important:

    ~ Sun Quincunx Ascendant (Sun at 5* Cap, Asc at 2* Gemini)

    ~ Jupiter Quincunx Saturn (Jup at 16* Cap, Saturn at 15* Gemini)

How would you interpret these?

Interesting! I also have just 2 quincunx but I think they act as 1. I've got Sun10*Libra conjunct Pluto11*Libra (4th house) both quincunx my MC11*Pisces.

`Who are you?' said the Caterpillar. This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, `I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'

Peri that’s really interesting!

But with the imaginary line, do you mean simply which planet is on the left and which on the right?

Lets see..

Mars ( master ) - Saturn ( servant )
Aggression & impulse over self control & frustration ( funny, it feels the other way round )

Mercury ( master ) - Moon ( servant )
Communication over emotions ( THAT, I know is true )

I have Sun in Scorpio in 2nd quincunx retrograde Saturn in Gemini in 9th with 13 minutes of arc. My stepfather was too strict,stern,controlling,restrictive,distrusting,bitter in how I experienced him.

I have Moon in Pisces in 6th quincunx Pluto in Libra in 1st with 2'20 orb. My mother was too intense,controlling,manipulating,resentful,paranoid,violent,with serious psychiatric and health issues in how I experienced her.

I think what she means is that you draw a line dividing the two quincunx planets, and then the one on the left of the line is the ruler. If your opposition line is horizontal-ish, then rotate counterclockwise to determine which is on the left.

For instance, my quincunx placements deal with the 1st and 8th houses. The opposition line goes between the 12th house and 6th theoretically. If I rotate my whole chart counter-clockwise then I get my 8th house placements to the left of the line, and my 1st house placements to the right of the line.

That's my guess. You could always just Google what your quincunx placements mean.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant, just to make it easier to define which planet is the ruler.

AG, in your case, seems Jupiter (expansion, optimism) will eventually win over Saturn (restriction, fear) and Sun (self-acceptance, your inner personality) will become more importnat to you than ASC(self-image, your outer personality);

Does it make any sense to you?

Thanks for clearing that up for me....

Stuck in the trees with too much Virgo in my chart...

Glaucus I experienced my father much the same way. as I have Saturn rx in Aries 11' Quincunx Venus rx in Virgo 8'...
I have had to struggle with my self-worth... standing up for myself.. with regards to all my relationships... I have made progress... I guess I will see how much as Saturn is in my 7th now!

Why would you rotate counterclockwise,
if the line was horizontal?
Why not clockwise?
What is the logic here?

Counter-clockwise because that is how the chart is drawn - the signs progress in a counter-clockwise direction.

Peri,

Isn't it interesting how this will work out? Jupiter beats Saturn, but my Saturn- ruled Sun beats my Asc.

I feel very good about Jupiter beating out my fears. Jupiter is also conjunct my NN in Capricorn, so it almost makes twice as much sense that my optimism would win out over my fears.

I also feel good about my Sun beating my Ascendant. It's really what needs to happen anyway. Gemini's too scattered. I need my Capricorn Sun to manage and organize myself, and I'm getting started on those actions right now. Even in the last few days I've taken some great steps towards repairing my attitude toward money handling.

I too experienced my father in that way and hav sun quincunx saturn. I've also had problems relating to men romantically; I hope thats improving. That could be because of mars square saturn. I don't really like the idea of my saturn in the 12th winning out over my sun in the 7th. Is it restriction vs. free expression? I don't know. I thought I was suppose to overcome my fears (saturn).

HSC,

AG is right, we should rotate counter-clockwise because the planets move so.

DL,

You are right, there is nothing to like about this aspect but at least now you realize where your (possible) problems in relationships might come from

quote:
…It is possible that people with Saturn in H12 are dealing with more than individual Karma, and in working through their own fear and negativity they are helping to transmute the Karma of Mankind. For such a task the rewards are commensurate but there may be years of doubt, darkness and depression before they are experienced… http://www.dkfoundation.co.uk/BookKarmaHouse12.htm

This aspect btw can be worked out through the energies/activites ruled by the planet that makes supportive aspects both to Sun and Saturn, if any.

Hey,

I've got Sun (Aqua/9th house) Quincunx Saturn (Virgo/4th house)

During my childhood my father was a jack @$$ of the highest order...not only to me but my year and half younger Libra brother also (He has Sun conjunct Saturn). Our father was a Sag who had no control over his temper.

Now he's older so we dont take his yelling and complaining seriously, and we just criticize him back.

When he wasn't a jack @$$ he was a good father.
