I am trying to find out someones sun sign without asking them. I am thinking he may be an earth sign (based on personality) but his physical characteristcs appear more air than earth (very tall, kind of lanky, but good form)

Here are some characteristics I have noticed:

*Seems selective with the people he associates with
*Talkative when inquired-but definately doesn't make a strenous effort to make the first moves (some people see him as a loner initially, but he never appeared that way to me)
*Appears to be "solid" and competent-never appears to worry (emotionally constant)
Warm, but very competent
*Kind of "sneaks" his way around-meaning he flies under the radar a bit
...And incase anyone needs more info, he seems to exhibit a paternal attitude (not in a patronizing way) towards select people

I am thinking Capricorn b/c of his seriousness and sly wit. But then, I am thinking Taurus as well....b/c of that basic sense of calmness yet warm personality.

It's kind of a shame that I am confused about whether he could be a Cap since I am one!

I would love some responses/input!

Also big knees and ankles I have noticed. They tend to also be quite dark, often with curly hair.

They can be very meticulous too.

Sly wit kind of indicates the presence of Air.

He could very well be a Sag, Cap, or Aqua. A Sag with Capricorn Ascendant is much more mute than a Sag of a different ascendant. I'm a Cap with Gemini Ascendant, and people (especially earth signs) would view me the way you do him. (Would people describe you similarly?) Quieter Aquas would also seem to fit that description well.

That couldn't have been said better!

His AC sounds Capricornian enough (I'm a Cap with a Cap AC) with that competenent and calm combination. The trouble is, Cap ACs will put that image on to keep negative attention away from themselves, so you don't know if either of these is truly him.

He does appear somewhat distant and aloof when i go ask him a few questions. He loves his work and travels around alot to do his act.

His wife usually accompanies him one his business trips and seems to be a nice lady.

And he is always talking about structure and the mechanics of writing...to have discipline to do stuff.

I am a cap, and everything I seem to read has us labeled as "cold" and "distant" but I am not that way (most of the time, probably b/c of my asc) and he does not seem that way either.

I wanted to test myself to see if I was learning anything at all about spotting a sign just by analyzing personality and to some degree, looks too.

I know it's an age old debate but, which sign really shows the way you appear to to others? I've read the Asc mostly does (for me, this is true of false depending on the person's attitude towards me). This thread quickly went into ASC's and then I got confused!

So what do you all think??

It's supposed to be your Ascendant, but I know for myself that I probably don't appear like a Gemini. Capricorn and Gemini are so different from one another it would be difficult to sustain appearing like a Gemini all the time.

1. Capricorns r really selective about the people they associate with. The selection criteria may depend on the type of cappy u r dealing with...for me it means genuine, warm, intelligent people. For other cappy's it might mean ppl who can help them become successful

2. Capricorns like emotional stability. That does not mean a total lack of emotion. It just means emotional control over themselves.

3. Capricorns look for security. So u usually wont find them making flighty plans or going for too many thrills.

4. They r not exactly stingy, (hehe...i'd like to think). They like things tht hv quality. Infact, the one word tht i can think of when i think cappy, is QUALITY. quality of people, quality of life...the spell class.

That's a cute mistake. It's "flagrantly".

"Fragrant" is having a nice smell, which I'd hope the Cap had as well.
