I was thinking about all the challenging aspects I have in my chart, and maybe they are not so bad to have. Although in my younger years they were very hard and I felt challenged and tested at every turn. Nothing ever seemed to come easy I always had to be tested and tested (I am mostly talking about my Saturn in 1st here opposing my Sun).

But now if something challenging comes my way or circumstances are bad, I find it a whole lot easier to deal with than a person who has mostly easy aspects.

Plus if I didn't feel any squares in my chart I wouldn't have much drive to accomplish anything with them. Although I am still working on a lot of challenges in my chart like building my self esteem, finding my direction of who I want to be in life. Handling my emotions constructively, learning to love without controlling on either end of the relationship. I have lots of lessons to learn but I feel they must be achievable otherwise what is the point of coming down here to learn our lessons if we did not have the inner strength to do it.

I am also thinking about this because I have read some Astrological interpretations and they can be completely negative like your oppositions and squares are dead ends and you are fated to always live out the negative side of the aspect.

But overall regardless of what these interpretations state I feel with having stressful aspects I am a whole lot more stronger than how I used to be, I am 27yrs old now and I still have plenty of learning to do and lots more growth.

I guess what my question is - how do you see your chart in terms of your challenging aspects have you grown or are growing and learning from them. All your testing times through the years have they made you a stronger person for it. Do you look back now and think yes it was hard going at the time but I have learned so much from those hard times that I would never have learned if I had never gone through it.

Or maybe you take another view on your challenging aspects, and wished your life had been easier. Or you wished you had a chart with easier aspects.

On the subject of some charts being more challenging than others I would say the majority of charts have lots of oppositions and squares compared to trines. Although I have seen charts with loads of squares and I wonder how the person copes with all these challenges.

Also what annoys me about completely negative interpretations is that if they offer you no growth and no way out, if you are feeling really depressed and read these interpretations it can be dangerous. I might be over exaggerating on this but to some people it might really make them feel down with no hope.

I am not saying Astrological interpretations shouldn't tell you what your challenges are because this is the very nature of why we have a birth chart to learn and overcome these challenges. I wouldn't be happy if I read an interpretation which just emphasised all my positive qualities because I want to learn about my challenges. It just makes me mad when there is no growth or learning offered to you in your interpretation.

P.S I just needed to say my little piece on that.

As a professional astrologer, I agree with you wholeheartedly. What is the point of such discouragement?
This is why I became an astrology writer. I believe that the most significant task of astrology is to assist us in personal and spiritual growth.
For those interested in learning a more positive astrology, my books can be found at www.lifeprintastrology.com See the BOOKS page.

Hi Shining,
You are SO RIGHT! That has been my number one complaint since I started studying astrology. I also have Sun opposite Saturn and I could have written exactly what you wrote. Just because someone struggles with something is no indication that they won't or can't conquer it. I not only believe but know from personal experience that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Like you, I feel I have been tested and tested again BUT I also feel like I am on a journey where I am continually stronger and freer than I was the year before. Struggles CAN have a positive impact on people and some of what is written is just crap.
Thanks, Rev Alice for writing with a more positive attitude. I think that no matter what hand we are dealt with at birth, there are MANY directions we can take......some good and some not so good and astrology needs to realisticaly depict that.

Shining Ray -

I appreciate your question. What it sounds like is a Saturian-type influence, and we ask these questions because Saturn is a Slower Planet. The truth is, we go through MANY Saturian-type lessons throughout life. Remember, the Goat, slowly climbing the mountain. The Goat's fishtail, in preparation for the Water Bearer.

I have 8 Squares and 3 Oppositions. You know, 1 Square and 1 Opposition would be enough for me I don't wanna learn and learn. I want to be free. Thank God I have many Trines and Sextiles too
P.S. Saturn has only positive aspects in my chart - that's good

I feel bad now I have 4 squares and 4 oppositions, but if I add on 2 squares with my Nodes squaring Neptune. Then I will have 6 squares and 4 oppositions.

I think with Saturn sitting on my Ascendant opposing my Sun must add the extra challenging effect I feel.

My sister has an easy chart I think and she expects good things to come her way. She won't do any favours for anybody but will charm her way into getting favours done by everyone else. If she wants something she gets it.

I do think you get people in life who expect the good things to come their way. And usually with this mind frame they seem to get it. But you can find the nicest most humblest people who have a lot of squares and oppositions or a really tough chart. Who don't expect things from you or expect the good things to fall in their lap.

There are evil people with tough charts too. I am not being biased. I was just thinking there I bet a murderers chart probably has some charming aspects too because they have to be charming to coax their victims. Hmmm this is something I might have to look into.

Hi Rev Alice,

It is nice to have a positive Astrologer who offers growth in their interpretations. You are doing a great job. I think it is possibly the very old Astrologers who gave quite negative readings. But you can sometimes still come across these readings. I remember my first little Astrology book it was on mostly sun signs it had Venus signs in also. I was only about 12 or 13 yrs old reading it and I mistakenly thought I had Venus in Pisces as well as Sun because I didn't understand back then that every planet had it's own sign.

I just found the book really negative in it's interpretation. I still have the book somewhere, I will have to find it to read through it again. Not the best book to be learning Astrology with.

Hey Mystical Dream yes I agree totally what doesn't kill only makes you stronger. If you change your perspective on your chart and try to imagine what you can achieve out of your challenges rather than let your aspects work negatively for you. Testing times are for a purpose, I think life would be quite dull if everything went smoothly all the time.

Hi Astro Junkie

It's crazy when you think about how you have all the outer planets in transit circling around ready to bring your next testing experience or positive experience your way.

I wouldn't say I particularly enjoyed Pluto squaring my Mars then my Sun and on to my Moon and now he's decided to spend his vacation with my Mercury.

But it is all about transformation, and I needed it. I needed to claim my power back.

Shining Ray,
have you ever read astro click portrait from www.astro.com ? It is an interactive horoscope and is free. The descriptions of negative aspects are very optimistic.
My strongest Square is Moon Square Venus with 3°09 orb- not so bad at all
