Datura = Thorn Apple also referred to as "devil's weed", which is described as having power similar to that of a woman:

quote:
...She is as powerful as the best of allies, but there is something I personally don't like about her. She distorts men. She gives them a taste of power too soon without fortifying their hearts and makes them domineering and unpredictable. She makes them weak in the middle of their great power...

The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda.

Interesting!

Does it mean Datura represents a false sense of power? Or our 'you never know' area? Datura is 4 degrees apart from my Sun (still conjunct I think?)...does this mean I over/under-estimate myself or I don't really know myself and what I am (in)capable of although I think I do?

Transiting/progressed Datura may be indicative of something 'we never imagined to happen' then?

There is something more...

...Also recorded in Stone-age times to be used as a sedative by healers or shamans to put the patient to sleep so to relax the muscles enough to reset a badly broken and perhaps partly healed bone in the wrong position. It was only used by skilled practitioners since overdoses were frequent and could be fatal.

So Datura is something that may result in disaster if not handled carefelly and wisely?

quote:
....In 2003, a German student known just as "Andreas W", from Halle cut off his own penis and tongue with a pair of garden shears while under the influence of datura. Neither organ was re-attached successfully....

Very cool.

And dammmmmmn Peri, a Carlos Castañeda quote at that? OK, I'll go with it (PS: Is that book listed as Fiction or Non-Fiction in the Library of Congress).

I don't know, from what you're saying, it sounds like Datura might even have been thought of as an omen back in the day. It might be located in ones Natal where we might feel very isolated, and where our insecurities lie. But it might not be action-oriented.

This is the way I say it now, and I haven't done a cross-reference of the meaning of the word "Datura". But one step along, the shaman has made a mental connection between "Datura" and the ability to make a "patient" so weak that all "their" muscles are soooooo relaxed.

Like your quote "She makes them weak in the middle of their great power..."

I'd be interested in looking to see where this one lands in my Chart. I'm sort of trying to piece it together before I do though.

Peri -

OK, I was wondering if you had read the book, if you were into Carlos Castañeda, blah blah ... thanks for letting me know the basic sources too.
