I don't know how to relate it to your chart but root canals aren't painful because you will be numb the whole time. Once the anesthesia wears off, it will be sore and you will probably favor chewing on the other side for a day or so...and then it will be all good.

Hey awakening,
one of my best friends is a dental assistant....so I hear "dental talk" more than I would like to! There is no way any decent dentist would not have you completely numb before doing a procedure. He will give you a shot (which you shouldn't feel) to numb the area and he will press on it and ask you if you feel anything.....if you feel anything at all, they will give you another shot, etc....until you are completely numb.
I have had 2 root canals and I promise you, it won't be bad.

You'll be A-Okay!!!

Root canals aren't bad - mine was as smooth as butter - it was the crown that was the problem because of my big jaw and firm bite. LOL...

Please let us know how things went and how you feel.

hi Awakening,
here is my "booooring" experience about my first ever dental procedure... hope it helps in some way.
i need to have all my wisdom teeth extracted which is considered the most painfull procedure of all.. i even read a few women comparing it to the pain of delivering a baby!!
i was 18 when my wisdom teeth first started surfacing. i suffered from pain, bleeding and infection in my gums for 6 years but i never visited the dentist because i had a bad case of dental phobia, not only that i am also scared of hospitals, clinics, blood tests, injections, dental drills...etc. the list is endless!!
because of my fear,6 years of my life were spent in pain, bleeding and very bad infection in the gums around the wisdom teeth which made me unable to chew food normaly.
i swore to myself that i would never ever visit a dentist, i thought i was better off with this pain killing me everyday and messing up my life rather that me having a dentist stick injections and scary tools in my mouth..
every 6 months my problem got worse and there were days when i had to press my cheeks hard against my gums to try and calm down the painful stings.
i knew i needed to visit a dentist but i was too scared.. even thinking about it made me break into a cold sweat! i spent 2 years surfing the net about dental procedures. i read how they would be preformed and what i should expect and the pre/post care guidelines,i also viewed pictures of these procedures being preformed...all this helped me to know what was exactly going to happen and it helped me prepare myself for all the unknown, surprise! surprise!scary stuff!..
i still wasnt 100% confident and keept going in for dental consultations for over a year rather than having it done with,i wasted alot of time visiting diffrent dental clinics and observing the nasty stainless tools they had on display...
still not convinced i took out an old diary and wrote in it a 100 times 'i am not scared,i am going to get my wisdom tooth extracted'...
after 2 months i dont know what happened to be but i felt very very confident,i visited the dentist and told him i wanted to get rid of all 4 of my wisdom teeth, he insisted having them out 1 by 1 ,so i agreed and sat on the dental chair i was shaking and sweating i could feel my hands and toes ice cold!.. i was a total chicken, i was sooo freaked out that i keept asking him about the pain and he keept telling me not to worry... (yea right!)
he held the injection and told me to open my mouth wide and as he got closer i started screaming !!.. but to my surprise the injection was completely painless! he gave me 2 injections, i wasnt convinced and asked him to give me more so that i felt completely numb... he then gave me 2-3 more ..total 5 injections! all completely painless! he then started pulling and hitting hard on the sides of my tooth .. i was screaming but i felt nothing, my mouth was completely numb from the inside.it was scary but 100% painless .. he then prescribed me a painkiller called something like 'cataflame'which i had to take 3 times everyday for 4 days..everything from the first injection to the recovery period was completely painless and after 1 week i was back to get the 2nd tooth out..
i do admit it was scary the first time because i didnt know what would exactly happen to me.. but later on i really laughed about it with friends...'i was such a chicken for nothing'!
i still have to get 2 more extracted so wish me good luck because i am still a bit nervous about the procedure but confident that it wont hurt!
its ok if you are scared and scream a little , its normal just ask your dentist to give you more than 2 injections to totally numb your mouth from the inside and do stress on the painless injections they have a very thin needle that doesnt hurt, after the procedure if you keep taking the painkillers as prescribed you will not feel any pain.
many people told me it is going to be very painful and thats what i read on the online dental forums too but i myself experienced nothing!.. just follow the guidelines and trust your dentist, take your painkillers, you dont have to wait to feel any pain just take the painkillers as prescribed by the dentist and you wont feel a thing.
i wish you best of luck and hope you get done with it soon rather than think too hard about it.... just do it! and let us know about your recovery.

ummmmm.....didn't make it .......i started crying.i was really too stressed.something really awful happened to me at the beginning of this week and i almost fainted at the sight of the needle...this had never happened to me before.i postponed it for the following week...it may sound silly but i experienced something very shocking and i have not been feeling so well...my mind's going through a lot.moreover i have developed an irritating apetite for everything 'c**p-food' and i'm afraid because of the stress that i'm going to go back to the 'old-times'..i do not want so!i've changed my metabolism 3 months ago and i'm so scared of destroying the little i achieved in few days.......
