October 6, 2006: Full Moon in Aries at 8:13pm
Magickal Attributes: FRUITION Manifesting goals, nurturing, passion, healing, strength, power. Workings on this day are for protection, divination."extra power", job hunting, healing serious conditions Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams.
October: Blood Moon
The Blood Moon is sometimes called the Falling Leaf or Hunter's Moon. It is a Moon of new goals, potection, resolution, and spirituality. The night of the Blood Moon is a great time for divination of any kind. At this time of the year, all of nature is making ready for the winter. Animals that hibernate are gathering the last scraps of food. Birds are heading south. In human societies, this used to be the time when we turned from agriculture to the hunt as our means of sustenance. This is the time to refect on what you did during the year and to evaluate your accomplishments.
You also want to check to see how you will survive the coming months. Make sure that you have enough money in the bank. If your work is seasonal, you might want to do some magick to find other ways to support yourself. If you work outdoors, do magick to help you survive the cold months ahead. You also want to check on things that are important to your safety and survival. How are the tires on your car? And what about that smoke alarm in the kitchen? Because the holidays are fast approaching, you also might want to do some work to remove stress and negative energy from your surroundings.

A harvest moon!
And on the mats —
Shadows of pine boughs.
Kikaku
The full moon closest to the Autumn Equinox is called the Harvest Moon, since farmers could work far into the night harvesting their crops by the light of this moon, which would also shine on the dances, feasting and general carousing that took place after the harvest was gathered.
Does it seem like the Harvest Moon is bigger and brighter than other full moons? This isn't entirely an illusion. During September, the relationship between the ecliptic plane (on which the planets orbit) shifts in relationship to the earth and the moon rises more or less at the same time every night for the three nights of the Harvest full moon.

Full Moon periods are known for being times of heightened emotions. With an Aries full Moon, you are going to feel extra-feisty since Aries is the god of war in mythology. If you haven't been speaking up when necessary or if you're having difficulty standing up for yourself, you may feel irritable. Courage is the hallmark of this Moon, so step forward and take the initiative; be adventurous, be bold! Full Moons also represent a culmination of what you set in motion during the last new Moon, so look back at the new Moon on September 22. That event was particularly important because it was also a solar eclipse. Between now and the next new Moon later this month, assess where you are emotionally. If you don't feel content, it's time to make changes that will add to your comfort level. This full Moon will most affect Capricorns born January 2-6, Aries born April 1-5 and Cancers born July 3-7.
~~~
The Aries Full Moon has the potential to bring to fruition some element of what we are committed to manifesting in our lives especially when we are taking responsibility for our actions and are conscious of what motivates them. If we are motivated by an addiction to perform and produce heroic results by cultural standards then our actions may not be in alignment with our true life purpose. Based on the current myths and stories portrayed in fairy tales, movies and television we are being strongly programmed with a vision of the Hero who has it all together all the time and can save the world from disaster. Releasing the need to be the hero doesn’t mean we stop accomplishing amazing things in the world. What it means is we refocus our energy - letting go of the addicted hero role and allowing ourselves to live in greater alignment with our soul’s intent.
“The Recovering Hero Proclamation”
I have no need to save others.
I have no need to rescue others.
I have no need to outshine anyone.
I have no need to out-think, out-perform, out-produce anyone – including myself.
I do not need to know anything.
I do not need to be an expert.
I do not need to fix anyone, or change anything.
I do not need to dazzle, impress or inspire anyone.
I do not need to be the hero of my own story.
In truth, I am organic, evolving, and fallible.
I allow things to unfold naturally, and I trust the flow.
I joyfully accept and experience my humanity.
I need nothing.
All already is.
Blessed be.
On Friday, October 6th, the Full Moon occurs when the Libra Sun opposes the Moon in Aries. The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time—a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.
The Aries-Libra polarity is a relationship axis, where Aries represents "self" and Libra represents "other". Where Aries is about self-assertion, Libra is about compromise. The energy of the Libra Sun is the awareness of the need for relationships and all that comes with maintaining them--compromising, negotiating, graciousness, and balancing. The Aries Moon, on the other hand, is self-assertive, leading, and personally courageous. This Full Moon urges us to strike a balance between meeting our personal needs and tending to the needs of a significant other, and between independence or autonomy and dependence or companionability.
The Libra Sun is diplomatic, equality-minded, and fair-minded. The Aries Moon, however, values authenticity over tact, and is energized by independent efforts. The Full Moon illuminates this conflict. This Full Moon is a creative one, with the Sun at the midpoint between Venus and Mars, and supported by both Neptune and Pluto, offering us the chance for creative revelations and solutions to the basic dilemma.
Neglecting either end of the Aries-Libra axis will surely backfire on us. Ideally, a balance should be found between the two energies, and this is what the Full Moon invites us to do. This Full Moon is about emotional declarations. Something has been building inside of us, likely of a personal nature, and now is the time when the energy of the cosmos fairly demands that we let it out. Over the next two weeks, we will discover what this declaration means for us. For now, we can't sit on our feelings. We need to express them.
The Full Moon illuminates the conflict between "me" and "you", and between autonomy and sharing. Its involvement with the Venus/Mars midpoint reinforces the "battle" between the need for companionship and the need for independence. Issues surrounding romantic and sexual needs also come up now.
With the Moon full and bright in the sky, symbolic "illumination" occurs in our own lives. However, these new feelings and revelations are emotional ones, as there is a sense of emotions bursting forth into our consciousness. It's time to express ourselves, and to let things out of our systems. Of course, we might want to exercise some care while doing so, knowing that what is coming out of us is new and not particularly rational as yet.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 13 degrees and 43 minutes of Libra and Aries, affecting people born with personal planets and points at 12-16 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.
`Who are you?' said the Caterpillar. This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, `I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'
13º Aries 43'
After the intensity of two cycles of New Moon in Virgo, it is time to lighten up and celebrate the cheerier, Arien side of life. Fun and adventure are good overall themes for any ritual celebration on the Full Moon in Aries. Aires is the first sign of the zodiac and rules new beginnings. The Aries Full Moon is the best Full Moon to put some concrete action behind a desire to begin anew! So if you spent these last two Virgo cycles looking deeply at your inner motivations and/or your unhealthy lifestyle choices, and have decided to make some adjustments, this is the best Full Moon to take a leap of faith and release your desire for a new beginning to the universe.
Since Aries is a fire sign, releasing is best done through burning, and fire ritual is best done with safety in mind; so make sure to use a cauldron, indoor fireplace or a stone fire circle at the beach to do this ritual. On an Aries Full Moon your intention is best released with these qualities in mind: spontaneity, wonderment, curiosity, adventurousness and innocence. There are few times in an adult life when we can begin anew without dragging along our past pain, fear and worries. But this is the Full Moon to strive for releasing your intention with childlike hopefulness and inner faith. Know that what comes from your strong intention will be evolutionary, supportive and…. well, a big adventure! So smile and let it fly!
For those of you who just want to have some fun, this Full Moon of the child is best celebrated with playfulness and adventure. Jupiter and Mercury in Scorpio are always up for mysterious puzzle solving of any kind; the harder the better. The Venus/Sun/Mars conjunction in Libra will make enjoying the company of others very easy. So… I'm thinking a treasure hunt or a game of intrigue and mystery. But remember to be together in lightness and joy, and open up to the healing magic of play.
Aries also represents our instinctual warrior nature; the raw animal part of us. Though it is true that most animals fight and kill for food and territory, we humans have the intelligence to garner our resources without the fight. The truth is, war is an outmoded technology and must be abandoned. It is a solution that rarely works and only brings with it increased suffering. How perfect is it that the dwarf planet 2003 UB313 has been named for Eris, the Goddess of Warfare, Strife and Discord. I am currently writing an article about the depth astrological interpretation of this choice and will post it on the site when it is finished.
Like last year, our government is still at war as the Moon waxes to its fullness in Aries, the warrior. But now, thanks to Jupiter in Scorpio we are hearing the terrible truth about how Iraq has in fact made us less secure and exaccerbated the growth of terrorism (as Mercury makes its way through Scorpio, I am sure we will hear even more of the awful truth.) And unlike last year, it seems freedom in America, especially basic constitutional rights like habeus corpus are now the favored target of a deluded, morally corrupt administration and an insecure, impetuous Congress; both of which appear to be running scared.
We can all use the mirror of our corrupt political system to look at where we run scared and act impetuously in our own lives. Look where you have acted impulsively and brought emotional or physical harm to others through your own misunderstanding. Could you have listened more, negotiated more, trusted more, (all Libran qualities) and through these acts behaved more consciously?
The raw sexual energy of this Aries Full Moon will definitely be mellowed by Venus/Sun/Mars conjunction in Libra. The desire to connect deeply with "the other" will be very strong on this Full Moon. This is a Full Moon to embody the innocent, nonjudgmental kind of love that Libra likes best. The Aries Full Moon is the time to remember that we are born knowing only love and to celebrate and share this precious gift. Though our lives seem to seesaw between achievement and loss, love and pain, there is a childlike innocence that still lives within us all. This tender hopefulness continually rekindles our spirit with an unwavering belief in human goodness and love and enables us to rise up from failure.
So here's to the successful launching of your new beginnings!
That was interesting about the Moon being 12% bigger -- thanks DD!!
