I've been feeling very depressed since I was 13. I'm not sure if it's clinical or if its just because I'm a teenager. Would my natal chart show any signs of it? And if it does, how can I make this go away? I don't want to be stuck like this forever

I was born May 2, 1990 at 8:40 PM (sorry, I don't know how to post my chart).

You have a stationary Saturn, and what was weird was that was my hunch.

With Saturn stationary, you would tend to be more serious, disciplined than the average person...especially with your Saturn being in its own sign,Capcricorn. The thing with that is that you could be too serious and too disciplined that you can restrict and limit yourself ...it can be like you have high expectations for yourself and if you don't meet them, you can feel insecure in yourself ...insecurity and depression are very connected. Many people with depression have history of insecurity.

You have Sun-Mercury conj in Taurus which is a sign associated with security, selfworth, and it's oppose Pluto, the planet associated with intensity, transformation,as well as the hidden side of life, and it can relate to inner demons as well as dark mood. So this could indicate that your ego, self expression, thoughs are at odds with your intensity and could be that you can struggle with "inner demons" that lead you to having a dark, somber ego and thoughts. All this could be connected to you having problems of insecurity and low self esteem. Sun-Mercury oppose Pluto can very serious too. The configuration also indicates a knack for having a strong will, regeneration, and penetrating mind that is great for psychology, occult, research, investigation, and anything that has to do with the hidden and mysterious. Sun-Mercury in Taurus oppose Pluto can indicate good financial, business aptitude.

I feel that not taking things too seriously but enjoy life as much as you can as well as believing in yourself, having confidence, and thinking about the many other people who are less fortunate than you can help you deal with your depression....especially when Sun-Mercury trine Neptune and sextile Chiron indicates that you have the potential gift of empathy, and compassion for those who are in pain and suffer in some way. You have the opportunity to be a healer and/or teacher or somebody that shows the way. Great for being a counselor..definitely good for astrology. With your sensitivity and imagination, you could use music to help you feel better as well as a creative/artistic outlet of some kind.

Maybe your mental health issues might inspire you to help others with mental health issues. Many counselors are people who needed counseling themselves. I often said that shrinks need shrinks. Of course,I feel that a person needs to be whole before they can help others be whole.

Oh sorry, I was born in Boston, MA.

lol......no no, Happy Dragon, no need to get worked up. I dont necessarily think of myself as having "mental issues" although it is possible. But sometimes I just wonder if depression is a possibility for me...or if I just have the typical "teenage insecurities"

There is no need to yell at me...ok?

FYI....Depression IS considered a mental health issue. Daydream32 did say that he/she was feeling very depressed since he/she was 13 yrs old which is a long time. That can point to chronic depression. Dysthymia is a chronic milder form of Depression. I have been diagnosed Dysthmyic Disorder myself. I feel that anybody who experiences depression for a long time should go checked out by a doctor. Depression shouldn't be underestimated, and it lead to serious problems. Especially if they are feeling very depressed like Daydream said that she was feeling. Very means high degree of something. So when a person is feeling a high degree of depression, then that is something that needs to be checked out.

Dysthymia, sometimes referred to as chronic depression, is a less severe form of depression but the depression symptoms linger for a long period of time, perhaps years. Those who suffer from dysthymia are usually able to function adequately, but seem consistently unhappy.

It is common for a person with dysthymia to also experience major depression at the same time - swinging into a major depressive episode and then back to a more mild state of dysthymia. This is called double depression.

Symptoms of Dysthymia Are the Same as Those of Major Depression and Include:

* Difficulty sleeping
* Loss of interest or the ability to enjoy oneself
* Excessive feelings of guilt or worthlessness
* Loss of energy or fatigue
* Difficulty concentrating, thinking or making decisions
* Changes in appetite
* Observable mental and physical sluggishness
* Thoughts of death or suicide
http://www.webmd.com/content/article/62/71503.htm

A lot of people have mental health issues and many of them succeed in life. They use those mental health issue experiences to help others that are going through mental health issues. That can be being Wounded Healer which is what Chiron is all about.

Oh I'm a girl lol.

Funny...I don't see myself as a therapist/psychologist/etc. But people to come to me with their problems and I've been told that I give good advice, so I guess it's something that I would be good at.

My dream is to be an actress though...I've been doing that since I was 9 and I've been singing since I was 13. I spend my summers doing theater programs, which I love. And I may be participating in a Shakespeare comeptition in January (but that's not confirmed yet). Performing arts is something that I am very passionate about, and the only place that I see myself in.

Perhaps "mental health" means many different things to different people….. Clinical depression is a chemical imbalance, and has everything to do with mental “health”. Much of our modern lifestyle is detrimental to our mental health….. one needs to educate oneself – they don’t teach it in school…..

daydream 32 ~
I've been hunting for a thread of Swerve's on a similar topic (but with good suggestions that may apply in your case) – here it is: http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/006194.html The culprit in some depression cases is serotonin imbalance. I have a book that I’ve given to nearly everyone I know – it’s called “Beyond Prozac” by Michael J. Norden, MD. The subtitle is “Brain-Toxic Lifestyles, Natural Antidotes and New Generation Antidepressants. I’m going to list out the chapter titles so you can see if you might be interested in checking it out of your library. One of your fellow daydreamers had a thread about being sick and tired that may interest you also…. http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/008991.html

HD and Glaucus can both give you great insights into the transits affecting you right now. Planetary energies can definitely exacerbate any physical issues you have.

From Dr Norden – chapter titles:

Part 1 – “Prozac Deficiency” – the Great Brain Robbery
1. Is Nearly Everyone Prozac-Deficient?
2. Serotonin: Virtual Morality and the Brain’s Surrogate Parent
3. Stress – the Brain in Heat

Part 2 – “Natural Prozac”
4. Light Therapy: The End of the Modern Dark Age
5. Melatonin: The Natural Heir to Serotonin
6. Sleep As It Was Meant to Be
7. Exercise and Your Brain: Pumping Neurons
8. The Body Electric
9. Vitamin, Mineral, and Amino Acid Supplements
10. Cholesterol’s Good Side
11. Prostaglandin Power: The Unexpected Role of Food
12. Essential Fats
13. The Natural Diet of Homo Sapiens – Updated

Part 3 – When Natural is Not Enough – Medication of Today and Tomorrow
14. Prozac: The Reference Standard
15. New Medications: Important Advances
16. A Look Ahead

HD put up a good link for Food and Mood (something else they don't teach in school) – http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/005994.html
Please see your doctor and have some testing done. In the meantime, I would suggest getting yourself some Omega fatty acids into your diet: I have a bottle of Fish Oil caps – 1000mg with EPA and DHA, and a bottle of Flaxseed Oil which has the Omega-6 and Omega-9 fatty acids. The normal American diet does not include enough of the Omegas…..
I personally would not advocate mainstream medicine's anti-depressant prescriptions, but for some people, they are the only thing that really helps -- I have seen them work. Fighting depression is not a matter of willpower.....

Please keep us posted on how you’re feeling, daydream32…..

Wow...that was very helpful

I do not have any suicidal thoughts. Sadly, one of my friends committed suicide 2 years ago...but I have never thought of doing it to myself. I want to live as long as possible and make the most out of life. But I do experience the rest of the symptoms and I feel like they interfere. "Very" may have been exaggerated.

I agree with everything that Zala said! I even took cod liver oil which has high amount of Omega 3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA. I take fish oil capsules which have high DHA content.

BTW...you say that you don't have thoughts of suicide but you have the rest of the symptoms. Well that still indicates depression that needs to be examined by a doctor. Depression is definitely not just mental but physical too.

I am just going over natal analysis. Your natal chart shows very strong propensity for Depression. You did say that you have been feeling very depressed since 13 yrs old which is the start of the teenage years.

You have Moon quincunx Saturn with 1'07 orb which indicates that your emotional nature, feelings, nuturing are in strain and tension with structure, discipline, and seriousness. Hard Moon-Saturn aspects are indicators of emotional depression which is often connected to issues with nurturing and domestic issues. I have Moon square Saturn myself, and I was a depressed teenager because of those types of issues.

I am more into cosmobiology when it comes to medical astrology stuff when looking at things. Cosmobiology uses only conjunction, opposition, square, semisquare, sesquiquadrate.
The system has midpoints

here are some of your midpoints...they include possible manifestations that are both positive and negative. You can turn your negative stuff into positive. The interpretations are from Ruth Brummond's Rulebook.

I focused at looking at Saturn and any midpoints involving Saturn. Saturn is the planet most associated with Depression because it's the planet of limitations, restrictions, seriousness

Your Pluto in 12th oppose Sun and Mercury retrograde in 6th can indicate potential health problems...retrograde 8th house ruler Mercury in 6th house can indicate mental health problems..especially when Pluto is in 12th house opposing it. 6th house is house related to health and 12th house is related to hospitals. According to Noel Tyl, 12th house is associated with chronic health problems. Pluto,a planet associated with psychology,is retrograde in Scorpio in 12th house, and so that can indicate potential chronic health problems of a psychological nature. Your retrograde Pluto in Scorpio in 12th oppose Sun-Mercury(8th house ruler) in 6th indicates potential deep-seated trust issues, secrets that can adversely affect your physical and mental health.

Remember...you can turn any negative stuff into positive stuff.

After all, you have free will.

Yes! Teens get depressed, it's a very hard time between childhood and adulthood.
Get out and meet new people whereever and whenever you can and your mood will stay even handed and stable. Get out of any ruts you are in mentally, financially, emotionally, physically, start new hobbies and enjoy them but do not feel compelled to follow through on everything you do.

The point is to sample life and learn new things but do not overwhelm yourself with many tasks that are impossible.

Take Care,

Thanks sthenri, you've definitely been the most helpful. Galucus, your report was good too. The biggest difference with me though, is that if you knew/met me, you would never guess for a second that I was depressed. I'm a pretty friendly person and I've surrounded myself with a good group of friends which I've made the most out of. But there are those feelings that linger beneath....

The thing with me is that I am very easily hurt (which could be the cause of these feelings) and there could possibly be a family history with me. My mother is not very happy with her life either, and my older brother is severely Autistic and can barely talk (I'm also having a lot of problems with his new caretaker, who comes to our house 3 times a week...but that's another story). I also take a very long time to let go of things.

Yeah, I would say it's definitely a part of being a teenager. When I was 14 even up until 17, I had those lingering bouts of depression. I think everyone goes through it... teen years are the toughest years to go through, IMO. BUT, if you have any kind of suicidal thoughts, I would seek professional help.

Thanks. I guess its something every teenager deals with. I don't have suicidal thoughts though, even thinking about it scares me. I lost a friend that way almost 2 years ago (November 24th is the 2 year anniversary). Even though I hadn't seen her since 2003 and I only knew her for a few months, it has still been hard to cope with because she was the first person I had ever lost and she was only fifteen years old.

I would never do it to myself because I feel very fortunate to have what I have and to have the wonderful friends, family, and life that I have. I could never leave all of that behind.

I am a Scorpio including Sun,Mercury, and Venus in the sign.

I don't judge a book by its cover. I have been judged a lot by my cover, and they have been wrong. I learned to not do that with others.

I have history of depression, and I have covered it up a lot too.

I have a 3 lifepath which is all about self expression, optimism, art, creativity.

I have Jupiter in Sagittarius in 3rd house conjunct IC,square ascendant which indicates my strong optimism, enthusiasm that can appear on the surface that can hide deep depression indicated by my moon, saturn, neptune t-square and sun quincunx saturn. I can be very outgoing, pleasant, friendly on the outside...especially when I have Mercury conj Venus in Scorpio in 3rd house.

Just like my highly spiritual, idealistic nature indicated by my Moon in Pisces square Neptune is undetected thanks to my practical,no-nonsense,analytical persona which is my Virgo Ascendant

My Moon in Pisces square the opposition of Saturn and Neptune as well as my Sun,Mercury, and Venus in Scorpio indicates that I am easily hurt too....it's that ultrasensitive, emotional nature can also lead me to be depressed. I don't think teenage depression is minor and should be dismissed. It really needs to be checked out. Teenage depression is not all about suicidal thoughts. All the other symptoms can be just as serious..especially if have every one of those symptoms even though you don't have suicidal thoughts/feelings, you should go seek some counseling. I had problems at home, and that's the main reason why I was depressed. I was physically and verbally abused, and I didn't tell a single soul about it. I was in denial of being abused too. It's often family problems that lead to depression.

It takes one to know one.

a lot of times...some of the happiest looking people might be the most depressed ones..because they put on an act.
that's the thing...many actors do have serious issues but can cover it up because they are good at pretending which helps them in acting. Many actors are actually shy and introverted, but they can use imagination to be something that they are not. That's their gift. I have that ability myself. I was born the same day, month, and year as actress,Winona Ryder too. We have all the same planets in signs, but she has different ascendant and midheaven.

Honestly..no offense, if you have depression, you should be talking to a mental health professional and not to us. We are not equipped to help you,but they are.

Zala gave great advice.
Make sure that you're taking your vitamins. Vitamin B complex and zinc can help with mental, emotional functioning.

Happy Dragon,

It's all good.

I understand. I don't really care much for psychiatry myself. I'd rather go see a psychologist myself. Psychiatrists can be too quick to hand out drugs and misdiagnose a lot.

Thanks for the url.
