Say you have a few very tight orbed aspects in your chart like 0 to 3 degrees would those aspects be dominate over all others in your chart?
For example:
Sun Quincunx Saturn orb 2°09
Moon Quincunx Ascendant 0°48
Mars Trine Pluto 0°37
Mars Opposition Neptune 1°00
Venus Trine Ascendant 2°31

versus
Pluto Sextile Ascendant 5°22
Mars Sextile Ascendant 5°59
Moon Square Neptune 4°11
Mercury Conjunction Mars 5°36

Like if your chart were a painting the tight orb aspects would be the foreground and the wide orb aspect would be the background. Is that how it works?

Well they say the tight aspects are stronger, likewise in synastry.

My tightest aspect is Sun-Merc conj which is 2'11 compared with 2'32. I'd say its pretty song despite my mercury being completely combust. Otherwise, the next tightest is mars-nep (3rd-8th) opp - 14'46 compared to 13'13 but it doesn't feel as strong. However I have Jup in 1st conj Asc - 15'21 compared to 17'51 and this feels a lot stronger, but that is because it is angular - accidentally dignified, it certainly feels stronger than mars-nep. The rest of them are quite weak.

I'd probably agree with your theory provided its not angular or conjunction. They say conj are the strongest aspect. Then maybe squ or something.

hmmm...not really, no. I mean, I think the tighter the aspect the more naturally and unconsciously it occurs.

For example, my mercury makes a very tight conjunction to mars (0.01) and my moon square mars (1.00). I think these aspects are more habitual to me.

However, my moon opposes my jupiter (6.55 orb) and my Sun is square my Neptune (3.57). I'm always told that I am way too idealistic and how I always put my friends in a good mood (plus I'm 'notorious' for avoiding mundane tasks...bad Neptune, lol); it seems these two farther aspects are seen by others more. While my moons tight square to mars suggests a quick temper of sorts; it seems to be over-shadowed by my other more wide aspects. Of course, the reason for this may be different...but this is just a thought.

I think CafeAstrology explains this, in this article:
http://www.cafeastrology.com/articles/aspectsinastrology.html

"An Exercise in Self-Awareness
The closer the aspect, the more unconscious and habitual it is likely to be. Interestingly, I have found that we tend to identify more with aspects with wider orbs. Aspects with larger orbs are usually dynamics of our personalities that are most obvious to us, while others in our lives may notice the energies of our closer aspects more than we do. This is because close aspects are very subjective and habitual. They are so much a part of us that we may not pay much attention to the personality dynamics that they represent. With experience and increased self-awareness (as well as feedback from others), we come more in touch with these instinctive facets of our personalities. Of course, astrology can help us better understand these dynamics."

If tighter orbs don't make for dominate personality charictaristics in personality something must. Because people are just made that way. Everyone has dominate personality charitaristics and more outling ones ( in the backgroung).

Hmmmm..... maybe aspects alone (tight or wide) don't give dominancy, maybe for an aspect to become dominate it has to be backed up by the chart. Like for example:
I really idenitfy with my sun quincux saturn
I have my Sun in Gemini, Gemini rules the 3rd house and I have saturn smack dab in the middle of my third house. The sign of Gemini falls in the 10th house the house of Capricorn and Saturn. There would be the chart supporting the aspect and giving it dominance

Or my Mars trine Pluto (orb of 0 degrees)
My eighth house falls on the Sign of Aires

Or Venus opposition Pluto (orb of 3 degrees)
My Venus in Taurus is in the 8th house and my Pluto in Scorpio in in the 2nd

Or Moon square Mars (orb of 5 degrees)
I have Mars in Cancer and Moon in Aires

These are all aspects that I consider dominate in myself. Does this work in your charts as well? (with tight or wide orbs)

I would think so.

Mine is Sun square Uranus 0°02 nothing normal about me

I don’t allow society to shape me, and I don’t fit into any stereotype, nor do I believe in them. I think people who do, are just trying to fit in. nothing wrong with that I guess.

Well, then. My tightest aspects is....

Mercury Opposition Neptune 0°13

The winners for Second and third place are...

Moon Sextile Mercury 1°39
Moon Trine Neptune 1°51

Makes sense since memory, speech, and sensitivity/emotions are all tied together for me. Neptune is very strong in my chart.

I think the tight orbs makes some impact(they have to their stronger than all the others). As for me my tightest orb is my PLUTO SQUARE ASCENDANT 0°11 and it recks havoc on me all the time, and then my Moon trine Uranus 0°33(which is kind of cool).

Sun in Libra
Moon in Cancer
Jupiter in Cancer
Venus in Virgo
Mars in Cancer
Ascendant in Cancer

I "FEEL" therefor I am

Does the your chart back up the aspects that you feel are dominate, never mind if there tight or wide?

My closest aspect is a Moon/Mercury Conjunction in Pisces 7th. I would say it has strong significance even more for me since Mercury is my chart ruler as well.

For me I think it means a need to balance the mind and emotions as my chart is heavy water and emotions do take over my rational thoughts, or clearer thinking. My Ascendant is Virgo the direction I need to take this lifetime so I need to develop some discrimination. To balance me out. I have Saturn conjunct Asc as well so I need to learn caution/responsibility and managing the self.

Honestly, I may be getting a little off topic but...

I think one has to look out which planet(s) are being aspected most (all together) in the natal chart. The more it is aspected the more prominent it becomes in ones' character; despite the orbs. However, one must look at other factors...anaretic 'crisis' degrees, singeltons, unaspected planets, and etc...all of these can 'throw off' how a chart helps shape ones' character.
