i am interested in the varying opinions on these two types of charts. When would one use sidereal and when tropical? in Sidereal my sun is Aquarius in tropical it is in Pisces- still a Pluto ascendent but in Cancer instead of Leo- I have read some articles on the calculation methods...are the two at odds with one another? Is one showing a more spiritual path than the other? For what reasons would someone choose one method over the other?

Hi tux~ I've tried using the vedic one as well. It gets very confusing and I'm not sure what to think. In the end, I stick with the tropical chart.
In my vedic chart, I have a Libra Asc, Scorp Sun, and Aqua moon. In my tropical chart, I have Scorp Asc and Sun and a Pisces Moon.

When I've asked questions about which to follow, I've always been given the same answer. Go with whichever one you feel fits you best.

In tropical / In Sidereal

Virgo AC / Leo AC

Gemini Sun / Taurus Sun

Aires Moon / Pisces Moon

Gemini Mercury / Gemini Mercury

Taurus Venus / Aires Venus

Cancer Mars / Gemini Mars

Aquarius Jupiter / Capricorn Jupiter

Scorpio Saturn / Libra Saturn

Sagittarius Uranus / Scorpio Uranus

Capricorn Neptune / Sagittarius Neptune

Scorpio Pluto / Libra Pluto

All in all sidereal doesn't seem to show me very well. I like the tropical best.

Does any one on this forum use sidereal?

I do.
I combine Vedic and western sidereal, and I'm happy with it. It never hurts to broaden your horizons a bit, every tropical astrologer should at least look into sidereal or Vedic astrolgy with an open mind (not like, - "I'm definitly a Leo, I can't be a Cancer!".)
Cancer, being ruled by the moon (public eye) is the flamboyent, attention seeker of the sidereal zodiac - basically tropical Leo under a different name.

Vedic astrology uses so many different techniques it's hard to grasp. For example: Yogas, 20 divisional charts, many different "Dasa" systems (Timing based on the planets in the chart,) ect. I still have a lot to learn, this is after I used the tropical system for 3 years.

I can post a few links if anyone asks, it's worth checking out.
