Chinese astrology indicates that the signs you are most compatible with are born in years that are (0,) 4 or 8 (12, 16, etc.)years apart from your own birth.

So far in my experience it seems true that using Western astrology I am more compatible with those years. For instance, even in this forum my best synastry with another person (as far as I'm aware) happens to be with someone born 4 years after me. I don't know what exactly happens every four years in regular astrology to make the years more compatible, but I have a hunch that there is something to Chinese Astrology.

I'm a metal pig! Oink, oink, clank, clank!

I find it's difficult to reconcile both systems of astrology. They each have their own agenda, even though on the surface they seem to be about the same things. But I'm not saying there's not wisdom in Chinese astrolgy ina nd of itself.

Does the chinese astrology mix well with western? I mean, is there a way to really merge the two? I don't know much about it but found out that i am a dragon from a placemat at the Chinese Gourmet.

My guess: People who are born 4, 8, 12 or 16 years away from you, would most likely have Jupiter in signs of the same element as your natal Jupiter, and even a good chance of having a Jupiter-trine-Jupiter aspect, or even a Jupiter-return conjunction aspect with you. Jupiter indicates philosophical outlook, religion, and also abundance and good luck.

I am still wondering if any astrologers combine the two for readings? I mean, does anyone out there do that? does anyone on this forum combine the two?

I'm a wood rabbit... I find it hilarious telling people that my bf is a pig... lol! I THINK he's water pig... Apparently we are compatible. Now I looked into this and it does work out with the years of our birth... being that a Gemini born in 1971 (yes, he's four years older than me) will have Saturn in Taurus, which according to the book I read, means that he looks for a partner with Taurean qualities (domestic, stable, loyal, etc) and that this is a very serious relationship for him. So I find that interesting.

I think maybe it's worth combining the two for relationship readings, as it could tell you something that's not strikingly obvious in the synastry?

thought "New Chinese Astrology" was a good read ..
the signs make for an interesting backdrop to the western system ..

as for "The New Astrology " .. it seemed a bit of convenient selling point ..
i.e. lets put both systems together and sell another book sort of thing ..
maybe i'm just sceptical .. but i didn't like it near as much as the other one ..

THE TANTALIZING SNAKE

Snakes are: Amiable, Compromising, Wise, Altruistic, Honourable, Sympathetic, Philosophical, Charitable, Fashionable, Intuitive, Discreet, Diplomatic and Sexy.

But Snakes can also be: Self-righteous, Imperious, Judgemental, Conniving, Mendacious, Grabby, Clinging, Pessimistic, Fickle, Haughty, Ostentatious and Selfish.
How does it feel to be so irresistible? It must be sublime to know that the whole world is intoxicated with: your bewitching perfume, your silken scarves and your glamorous accessories. Everybody is in awe of your appearance. And you, in turn, are in awe of how adoring your admirers are. You do so love to please.

Some think of you as the silent type. But when there is something important to say,you can be a veritable magpie. People cherish your sagacious advice. Those seeking peace of mind are drawn to you for counseling and wisdom. You can always predict what's about to happen before it does. One wonders if you receive messages from other realms. If you do, don't fight it. Listen to the spirits and learn.

With money, you are both a miser and a spendthrift. Rather than pushing up the thermostat a few degrees, you will wrap yourself in sable and curl up with a good lover. You are famous for demanding exclusive rights on your mate while blithely maintaining your own busy private life on the side. Security is your all time favourite happiness-provider.

The first two parts of your life will be hectic and nerve-wracking. But old age becomes you. Enjoy it.

Some advice? Be generous with your glory and take care of your fragile skin. Marry up with a resourceful Rooster or a stabilizing Ox. Don't get wrapped up in any romantic relationships with....

Just a plain old Earth **** here.

Never have dated an Ox or Snake. Made the mistake of dating an abusive Fire Horse. I read somewhere that the Chinese used to kill all boys born the year of the Fire Horse.....they missed one!

Seriously, I'm not so sure how accurate this astrology is since it lumps everyone born in one year under the same sign. We are all not that alike.

Funny thing, I'm dating a Leo/Monkey who thinks monkeys are disgusting, dirty, mean animals He definitely sticks with his Western Astrology sign.

i just went and had a look at were jupiter was placed at 12 year intervals ..
i've jupiter in gemini 1.15 ..
but scrolling back 60 yrs puts jupiter in taurus consistently ..
was checking that as she mentions 'fickle' which i'd associate more with gemini ..
in her western/chinese book she relates the snake to taurus ..
so i get to be a double taurus in a sense ..
in the chinese astro book she relates a funny story regarding a snake plumber she hired ..
at the end of it her new kitchen plumbing resembled a piece of crazy artwork ..
and he evidently took such a long long time to finish the job ..
can't remember the rest as i've not the book anymore ..
but i could relate to that plumber ( it evidently worked fine .. the plumbing )

i knew a taurean rooster once .. she had a b/f but that didn't stop my interest ..
after all he was only an aries ;-) .. ( ooo do i hear charging little hooves )
i thought she could do a bit better :-)) .. but one day i said the wrong thing ..
and boy oh boy did i get a dressing down in front of a classroom .. full wack .. no mercy ..
( it was at a comp software class 'n she was the teacher ) ..
all i asked was 'how's the new software working out" .. except i forgot ..
she wasn't supposed to have that software on the company machine ..
it was a big no no .. i.e. her job could have been on the line .. except i didn't think of that ..
anyhow the rooster crowed and the bull got very very angry ( sat conjunct sun in her chart)
probably at the thought of losing her job .. ( whoops ) ..
i took me ages and ages to recover 'n she never spoke to me again :-(
.. strange thing that ..
the only sign on this planet who can successfuly tell me what i should or should not be doing ..
( by successfuly i mean .. i take notice ) are taureans .. and only the females at that ..
one told me to stop drinking after i made a complete fool of myself on a bottle of cheap vodka a day ..
for a few months .. ok half a bottle maybe with tomato juice 'n spices ..
well ok i was crazy about that one and she had a b/f back home .. so the drink numbed the pain ..
but i never got drunk since .. and that was 27 years ago ..
i've often found that strange ..
n' crowing roosters .. why can't they sing instead ?? .. is it the chickenfeed ???

.. doesn't really address the chinese accuracy query .. b.w.t.h. ..

I seem to get along best with roosters, rats, rabbits and other snakes...I always think of that movie "The Jungle Book" how the tiger and the snake interact, it's kind of true. But I did have a boyfriend that was a Gemini tiger (1974) and he gave me the best memories when I was much younger, and we got along pretty good. My longest relationship(on and off constantly)was and is with a Scorpio monkey(1968).

Earth monkey me, my cousin is mad about chinese astrology, I think this year everything is abundant, especially the garden, I wonder if it's because the year is the PIG!

I am surrounded by pigs, my cousin, her dad, my best friend, and my boss, one of my neices is also a pig, nice little animals, I think I'll hang with them this year, monkeys always size up any situation and take the best options

Once, I'd read horrorrrrscopes think I have so little in common with those boring slow steady Taurus' I think they've got it wrong, 'cos I'm far from slow & steady, aha! but when I learned more about Astrology, and realised my Sun sign was only a small part of the big picture, and my Mars/Mercury in Gem with my Aries ascendant, well now it makes way more sense, and I'm definitely a Taurus

My love is a Tiger Rrrrreow! don't p!ss them off, they hate that, or snakes, I read somewhere if you must kill a snake make sure it's really dead or it will hunt you down and obliterate you. I believe it.

**I read somewhere if you must kill a snake make sure it's really dead or it will hunt you down and obliterate you.**
mmmmmm .. true somewhat .. dunno about obliteration though .. semi-obliterate as a snake favour :-)))))
.. 'n snakes know how to 'play dead' .. sneaky sausages ..
i think it's "strike without warning" .. thats how i operate if needed ( been a long long time though )

so .. is this going to turn into a taur thread ? .. wonder what other combos lurk in these waters .. :-)

my longest relationship was with a leo dragon .. knew how to burn the cooking pretty well ;-)))
( i'm going to get into big trouble .. i can smell it approaching ) .. :-)

Woot, I'm an Aries 'Earth Dragon' and yes, I must say that it (Chinese Astrology) is quite accurate for me. Also, taken the fact that I have a plentiful amount of the 'earth element' in my natal chart; it does tend to 'fit the bill'.
