This is the New Moon for radical change. Aquarius is often thought of as visionary: an energy that looks beyond the norm, questions accepted truths, boldly claims originality, flies in the face of reason; and flatly refuses to blindly follow the dictates of others. And oh, if you are like me, (always ready to dive deeply into Aquarian and Piscean energy) you will be very happy on this New Moon with its Chiron/Sun/Moon/Neptune conjunction in utopian Aquarius, and a Mercury/Uranus/North Node/Venus conjunction in transcendent Pisces. A mind-blowing line-up such as this is not to be wasted; even with a dour retrograde Saturn in Leo and stilted Mars in Capricorn telling us otherwise. If there was ever was a time to transcend old thinking (Pisces) and awaken into new ideas (Aquarius) this is it.

Aquarius rules "WHY NOT?" and this is where your attitude needs to be when you engage in ritual for this New Moon. Any hesitance, doubt, or second-guessing should be forsworn in favor of a radical openness to revelation. This is the Eve of the Chinese New Year; the Year of the Boar. Though Chinese astrology views a boar year as one full of prosperity and opportunity, it comes with a caution against hesitation, which can impede jumping on unexpected opportunities. So on this night you will get to practice becoming comfortable with the Aquarian way of breaking out and jumping in feet first, head later.

Change is good! Reflect upon how you felt when you read that last sentence. Did you feel a pit in your stomach? Did you scoff at me? Did you feel a powerful YES! reverberate in your psyche? Really it all comes down to our attitude toward change, and this is the New Moon to throw out the old and bring in the new! This is the time to seek and destroy worn out modes of thinking. The Aquarius New Moon asks each of us to awaken to the reality of our lives. To see it as it truly is (no rose colored glasses allowed) and then envision a better life; one free of old rules and restrictions that reflect your "I can'ts, I won'ts, I'm unable, and I'm scared." This is a truth or dare New Moon. Recognize your present circumstances and then dare to vision beyond them, past the boundaries of the known into the unknown.

If your life feels more like a prison than a gift, this is the New Moon to commit to freeing yourself once and for all. This can include releasing unhealthy relationships, workaholic tendencies, addictive behaviors, substance abuse, and even poor dietary habits. Changing our thoughts is the first step toward effecting real change in our behavior. So don't hold back, go for transformation around issues that block your ability to create a life full of love and happiness.

The Moon symbolizes one's relationship to the inner life, emotions, and deep personal needs. Aquarius tends to set aside personal needs and feelings, focusing more on the emotional needs of the group. With so many planets in the transpersonal signs of Aquarius and Pisces, this New Moon will require a bit of work to reach deep down and connect with change on a personal level. Often it is the fear of facing our inner pain, sadness and disappointment that prevents change. The retrograde movement of Saturn in Leo can help draw the awareness deep into our complexes around love, authority, personal limitation, and creativity. The yod from Saturn to Mars in Capricorn and Venus in Pisces will call each of us to a high level of seriousness. Mars in Capricorn and Saturn in Leo are harsh taskmasters when it comes to being responsible for maintaining passion when our talents go unrecognized. Venus in Pisces is a directive to dive deep into the pulsating heart of the universe to find the cosmic connection to all things, and return renewed, ready to selflessly give of ourselves.

On a lighter note, this is the New Moon for all the techie geeks with that "next-new-revolutionary" idea rolling around in your brilliant heads. What most of the world calls a radical new theory today often becomes tomorrow's accepted practice… and that next great innovation could come from you! This is the New Moon to vision big and see if you can give some form to that new idea.

The Aquarius New Moon is all about individuation and freethinking. It is a time to get free of self-imposed restrictions and think out of the box! Use your ritual to indulge in the "what ifs" of life: Question expectations, career choices, relationships, attitudes, desires and commitments. It's all up for grabs on this New Moon. Let your mind and heart soar like an eagle to places it has never dared go. The Aquarius/Pisces planetary conjunctions are extremely helpful for doing powerful ritual work to realize a long held dream. How many times have you thought, "If I could only do ____________, it would really change the world." This Aquarius New Moon is great for identifying that calling, visualizing the appropriate form for sharing it, and strategizing about how to actualize it.

Make sure to use each day of the next two weeks, as the Moon waxes to full, to reaffirm your commitments. The Full Moon lunar eclipse in Virgo will provide the perfect time to enact the changes you put energy into during the next two weeks.

Aquarius is all about the "power of one" to change the circumstances of the many; especially this New Moon with Sun (ego/self-identity), Moon (emotional needs), Neptune (interconnection and unconditional love), and Chiron (wounding) all in Aquarius. We are all equally responsible for the condition of our world. Global change begins at home. How you live, the quality of your thoughts, speech, and actions has a profound effect upon all life on this planet. Since change can happen from within the system or outside of it, only you know the proper path for you. Aquarian success comes from connecting to the needs of your generation and making your life a testament to upliftment.

Since Aquarius rules our relationship to the collective, and Pisces rules enlightenment, we will have optimal conditions to work toward deep spiritual change on a global level. With the Piscean directives of peace, compassion, surrender, understanding, and unconditional love, you can do a New Moon group ritual with likeminded individuals who are also focused on global change. Group ritual is very potent, and collective New Moon rituals create the conditions for shared transformation. Put some Aquarian ritual magic behind the desire for peace: a magic that creates an awareness of the necessity for change, but is fully conscious of the need for that change to be of heart and mind. Radical change and terrorism need to be decoupled now or we will continue to experience the horrors of violence as a means to effect change. Think about how you can become a force for change at your workplace, in your neighborhood, and at home. Change is good!

So this New Moon, commit to changing your life and you will change the world. Ride the wave of this mind-altering, life-altering New Moon Cycle.
